The Fanatic is currently in the lead for #pirateweek (not by much, but it counts!). I’ll be posting up the class that gets the most interest when I get home tonight, as it sounds like there’s definitely interest. The Fanatic is definitely a good one to start on; there’s plenty of re-skins/ compendium classes/ new vows/ new Authorities that spring to mind, and I’d love to see what you guys do with it!

If you missed it, here’s the class list to choose from:

The Alchemist, who drinks potions and breathes liquid flame.

The Avatar, who calls their god into them and smites unbelievers

The Brute, who smashes puny things (not a choice today!)

The Fanatic, who turns people and mobs into weapons

The Pirate, who makes everything explode and insults people

The Reefmonger, who summons nightmares and loses sanity

*The Witch Docto*r, who guides spirits by devouring their corpses

#bardweek has been awesome! Hope you’re all excited about what we could do next week; #pirateweek !

Pirate World has 7 new core classes. Let me know if you’d like to see one and I’ll post up the winner’s full class so you guys can check it out/ customise it/ make your own classes off it. Good stuff will go straight into the class, making Pirate World that bit better. Here are the core classes we could pick one from:

The Alchemist, who drinks potions and breathes liquid flame.

The Avatar, who calls their god into them and smites unbelievers

The Brute, who smashes puny things

The Fanatic, who turns people and mobs into weapons

The Pirate, who makes everything explode and insults people

The Reefmonger, who summons nightmares and loses sanity

The Witch Doctor, who guides spirits by devouring their corpses

There’s plenty of people who know what The Brute is like already, so probably a no to that one! Also, I’m posting this pretty late, not expecting responses until tomorrow! There are also a couple of classes that are stretch goals, and secret for now…

Here is an ADVANCE PREVIEW of the Pirate World kickstarter, due to get going on November the 1st; that’s next Friday!

Also, a confession: my real name is Iain! JH is a pseudonym I use to keep google+ stuff separate.

NB: as it’s an advance copy, the page is currently missing some pretty graphics in the main page that show the playbooks and reward levels. The video sound hasn’t been cleaned up properly, and the online preview of the book hasn’t got everything in there yet; they’ll all be fixed by Sunday. Let me know what you think!

Goblin Mushroom-Muncha

Goblin Mushroom-Muncha

Goblin Mushroom-Muncha

(A #pirateworld Alchemist variant)

Pick Poisonous Mushrooms

When you have a spare hour or two, you can pick up clearly dangerous fungus; enough to last an adventure. Choose two tags, name the mushroom and add a batch of it (1 weight) to your inventory. If you’re picking magical, rare or fantastical mushrooms add one more tag of your choice.

Starting Tags: bubbling, flaming, freezing, electric, volatile, regenerating, enhancing, lethargising, restorative, poisonous, invigorating, clotting, acidic, strengthening, weakening, toxic, dangerous, murky,

Example: Fuzzy Madcap (poisonous, electric)

Belch (Int)

When you chomp down on a mushroom and burp it out, roll 2d6 +Int. On a 10+, choose one of the mushroom’s tags and apply it to one of the options below:

* the cloud of vapour counts as a reach weapon and deals class damage. Describe how.

* it has lasting effects (e.g. forms into an ice bridge, melts armour,)

If you roll a 7-9, as above, and your aim also hits something unintended, or the GM picks one of the mushroom’s tags and applies the effects to you!

Transform (Int)

When you stuff your face with fungi, you take on the aspects of the mushroom; roll 2d6 +INT.

* On a 10+ hold 3. Choose one of the potion’s tags and describe how it temporarily transforms you. Spend hold to transform for a moment.

* On a 7-9, hold 3 and the GM also chooses a tag, and describes the effect that tag will have each time you spend hold.

Addict

* Add “which mushrooms here look especially dangerous?” to the Discern Realities question list

* You may always ask the GM “what effect will eating this mushroom have?” as you stuff it into your maw, and they will answer truthfully; the answers may include new, undiscovered tags.

Goblin Racial Bonus: “Aaaaarghhhhhhh IM ON FIRE”

All mushrooms automatically have the flaming effect added to them.

A lovecraftian wizard who summons eldritch nightmares and lightning, only occasionally goes insane.

Path to Madness is actually about to be redrafted to make it streamlined and smooth (whooo), but I couldn’t resist revealing this class!

I’m going to be finalising the #pirateworld playbooks this weekend, ahead of the kickstarter release in just over two weeks! If you want a preview, let me know; I’d love any last-minute comments and fixes (or just to hear “yeah! this lets me blow stuff up and summon nightmarish creatures in exactly the way I want to“)

Just over three weeks until pirates, festering amphibians, volatile gods, volcano cultists and explosions.

Just over three weeks until pirates, festering amphibians, volatile gods, volcano cultists and explosions… #pirateworld

Hey!

Hey!

Hey! Two things: first, I’ve made a page full of Brute-themed magic items (or at least, no-one else is going to want to eat a pouch of spider eggs), some post-last breath bonuses and a #GrimWorld   style death move, all included as a third page for the Brute’s character sheet:

Second, I’ve started putting bits of #pirateworld online. I’d love to give people an advance preview/ some testing. Send me a message here if you’re interested!

Of all the Brute magic items, I’m pretty happy with this one:

⃞ DWARF DOOR

This brass door was forged deep underground to protect the gates of Bredar IV from goblin dark magic, and it nearly worked. What the dwarves weren’t prepared for was a cave troll to rip it off the hinges and then beat them with it.

3 weight, awkward, two-handed, 3 armour.

The door harmlessly absorbs dark magic cast directly at the door, though each spell absorbed this way increases the door’s weight by 1.

A quick teaser: #Pirateworld  is steaming ahead and should be on kickstarter come November!

A quick teaser: #Pirateworld  is steaming ahead and should be on kickstarter come November! If you’ve ever wanted to play a lizardman volcano cultist, a swashbuckling witch-doctor, or accidentally invite a god to possess you, this dungeon world hack might just be for you. The list of stuff that wants to eat you is growing fairly quickly.

Let’s talk about Quest for #Paladinweek.

Let’s talk about Quest for #Paladinweek.

Let’s talk about Quest for #Paladinweek. I reckon it’s simultaneously the best move outside of Ritual and criminally underrated (though I’ve not discussed the Paladin here before!).

The good:

I love that it’s completely in the fiction, even the mechanical effects of the move are fictional boosts (e.g. invulnerability to ___). Better yet is the actual vow, which seems to generally say “my god totally wants me to murder this bad guy. I love that. Suddenly the evil dude goes from a campaign front to personally connected to the players via a vendetta, which opens up a whole world of awesome fictional possibilities.

The vows afterwards are also damn cool, and really make the Paladin’s character as a holy warrior who behaves in set ways to retain their honour.

The still-good-but-not-quite-so-awesome:

I’m not actually too keen on the boons. One of them seems significantly better than the others (invulnerability to _) and so is pretty much an auto-pick. The rest are good, but don’t seem to offer that much customisation (aside from “Holy Mark”, which can be interpreted in a lot of ways). I’m stumped for other boons, though! What would you guys go for? Ideally I’d like the Paladin to get some things they can customise a bit more towards their specific god.
