Y’all were so good at helping us win the RPGGeek best RPG ladder, we figured you’d ALSO be shit-hot at working together towards an even better goal than that.

Duel of the Iron Mic

Duel of the Iron Mic

Duel of the Iron Mic

When you pit your lyrical skills against those of an opponent, roll + CHA. On a hit, you prove your skill and win the duel 10+ choose two, on a 7-9 choose one.

– you embarrass or shame your foe

– their beef won’t come back to haunt you

– you’re inspired to even greater heights (take +1 forward)

On a miss, you stumble or stammer and your opponent wins the duel. Take -1 forward on top of whatever else.

It’s just a silly thing, but if you want to vote for us, it’d be pretty cool to see how far up the ladder we get;

This is a fantastic entry. The expanded alignments nicely blend with traditional AD&D alignment while offering some more nuance, the wizard schools are fantastic, and there are some neat spells in there.

I especially like how the wizard schools have just enough detail past type of magic to place them in the world as factions with their own interests and rivalries. I can definitely see how just combining these two tables would produce pretty fantastic results for random encounters or adventures.

When danger isn’t: in some cases, Defy Danger will trigger for some classes and not for others.

When danger isn’t: in some cases, Defy Danger will trigger for some classes and not for others. Some characters, not for others. Let’s talk about examples. I’ll start.

When the Fighter and the Wizard are presented with the mind-altering Orb of Zarkan, stolen from the Wizard’s school, the Fighter has to Defy the Danger of being ensorceled. The Wizard, who has previously described themselves having undergone the rites to gaze on the Orb and stay sane, does not.

What else? How else does fictionally positioning yourself help avoid defiance of danger?

I’m definitely setting my next Dungeon World game in the planar city of Dis, jewel of the great Sultana.
