Last Call at the Dungeon World Tavern

For almost 5 years, from January 2014 through Spring of 2019, the Dungeon World Tavern was basically my home on the Internet. I love this game, and this community was, for me, always the best part of Google+. The people of the Tavern were creative, and helpful, and positive, and for the most part, polite and kind. I asked Sage and Adam once how much moderation they did, and they said something like “not much at all… I think we’re just kind of lucky.”

By the time you’re reading this, Google+ will probably be gone. The people of the Dungeon World Tavern will have scattered to different digital shores. But here is its archive, along with archives of the communities I most closely associated it with: Jason Lute’s Lamblack & Brimstone, Cameron Burn’s Worlds of Adventure, and my own collection of Stonetop posts.

I created this archive using Friends+Me‘s Google+ Exporter, imported into WordPress. I did my best to preserve attribution to the original authors, both in posts and in comments. I did a cleanup of my own posts, but I’m sure that stuff–particularly links to documents, blog posts, and other G+ posts–has been lost. Overall, I’m remarkably pleased with how it’s turned out. Thanks for everyone who helped me figure this stuff out, or who just gave me encouragement to do it.

Thanks, too, to everyone who made the Dungeon World Tavern the special place on the internet that it was. And thanks to Adam “skinnyghost” Koebel and Sage LaTorra for giving us something fun to play with and talk about. (I still #blamesage.)

If you still want to talk about Dungeon World, these are the places I know of:

You can find me talking about Dungeon World, Stonetop, and related topics at https://spoutinglore.blogspot.com, and the Syllabus (maintained by Yochai Gal) will hopefully remain a trove of wisdom.

So ask yourself:

  • Did we learn something new and important about the world?
  • Did we overcome a notable monster or enemy?
  • Did we loot memorable treasure?

I sure think we did. Everyone, mark XP.

Here’s a final post: it’s the current state of the map from our 2.5 year campaign of FotF with my add-on “Advanced d12 World”. You’ve seen this develop from nodal notes on a scrap of paper into this monstrosity. Even this shows nothing of the twisting city streets, dungeon depths, and even portals to the moon!

Farewell my G+ friends.

Hi all!

Hi all!

Hi all! Before the tavern passes beyond the black gates, I wanted to share some playbooks I’ve been co-designing. They’ll be available pay-what-you-want at my itch.io page https://benkrosenbloom.itch.io/. I’m uploading two or so a day! If anyone has any thoughts about where else to share them, I’d sure appreciate it!

Already up are the Alchemist and the Merchant (https://benkrosenbloom.itch.io/the-alchemist-and-the-merchant-dungeon-world-playbooks) and the Olympian and the Paragon (https://benkrosenbloom.itch.io/the-olympian-and-the-paragon)

Hello all!

Hello all!

Hello all!

I only just got into DW in the last few months and recently discovered this community page. I’m just learning the game and have been trying to grab what resources I can which have been shared here before G+ closes. I see that some of the conversation has been moving to the Burning Wheel forum and a Discord server.

I’m wondering if anyone has a list of DW blogs or websites in addition to the work published on The Gauntlet and SpoutingLore.blogspot?

Also, are there any key resources in the Tavern that I should know about and grab before this page closes (in case I missed any)?

Much appreciated!

AS G+ DIES, LOOK FOR L&B AT THE GAUNTLET FORUMS

It doesn’t look like a dedicated L&B forum is in the cards at the moment, and even if it were I have my doubts about how many folks would make use if it, so I will be splitting my online RPG activity between the L&B blog and the Gauntlet Forums.

Jason Cordova, Shane Liebling, and many other folks have spent years building the Gauntlet up into a vibrant ind inclusive RPG community. It’s full of thoughtful, engaged, and interesting people people, talking about games that they love. I can think of no better place to fill the indie-RPG void that will follow the evaporation of G+.

So, as this humble outpost crumbles into the swamp, feel free to ping me (@jasonlutes) over at the Gauntlet Forums if you have any L&B-specific questions or suggestions.

I hope to see you there!

I ran an 8 hour long Freebooter session this weekend at the Ludesco convention in Switzerland. The three courageous players had much much fun building the setting then exploring one of its islands in search of Mayondinca artifacts and ruins. Some epic moments with an elemental-driven typhoon, angry merfolks pursuing them through half flooded ruins and mangrove, strange but finally quite nice vegepygmies, old mayondinca legends becoming true again and a demon accidentaly awaken from eons of (troubled?) sleep killed with the newly constructed balista for their pirate ship.

Mayondinca = Maya + ondin (=merfolk in french) + inca
