Wand = Volley with INT

Wand = Volley with INT

Wand = Volley with INT

Wands are intensely personal and each practitioner of the Arcane must craft their own. After researching the arcane rituals (and consulting with the GM) the Ritual move can be used to craft a wand. The GM is free to choose or add from the following conditions in addition to those already present in the Ritual move:

-It must be made form the bones/horns of a ______

-It must be bathed in the ___ of a ___.

-You must imprison a ___ inside the wand.

After the Ritual is complete you may use your wand to focus a blast and deal class damage by using INT to perform the Volley move. You may not choose to reduce AMMO but instead that option is replaced with : You affect more or less than you intended to. Wands will only function for their creators.

Advanced Move: 2-5

Warded Wand – You always know where you wand is. You have an inherent sense of where it is in relation to yourself at all times. If anyone other than you touches your wand they take class damage instantly and you are alerted, waking instantly and fully awake. If in Near range and unhindered/unimpeded, you can call it to you hand instantly.

Cheater’s Qarajai Spear

Cheater’s Qarajai Spear

Cheater’s Qarajai Spear

The legendary Elder Pointsman of the Slurred Oasis people’s Buzkashi team, Ghano Kheimod, won seventeen straight games in a row before the Sultan brought his court magi to a match to witness for witchcraft or trickery.  And boy, did they find it.  Kheimod’s spear (somewhat resembling a long-handled, thick bladed fishing spear with a single massive barb below the spearhead to keep the goat from breaking free) not only proved strong and more than capable of grabbing a dead goat’s body on the backdraw, but shone like a diamond with magical energies.

The other dozen mounted, armed players on the field proved loyal to the Sultan’s shouted orders.  The goat was cooked, and the game was finished with Kheimod’s body instead.

The spear, obviously worth a half dozen slaves, was sent, it’s blade sheathed in Kheimod’s severed head, back to his tribe as a warning to never court magic or treachery again.  The tribe refused to touch it.  The messenger left it on the ground, where it remained for a week before disappearing in the middle of the night.

It has since been seen in a fishing village a thousand miles away.  In a museum of exotic weapons and tools.  In the hands of a exiled bastard prince of the Frozen Southern Isles.  Who knows where it will be seen next?

When you wield Kheimod’s Thrust, goats and lambs within Near distance travel to wherever you demand (within eyesight)

When you draw blood with Kheimod’s Thrust you may choose to move the target to any other point within Reach distance.

When you hack and slash with Kheimod’s Thrust against goats or Saytrs deal an extra 1d8 damage.

I just gave my players a teleporting spyglass.

I just gave my players a teleporting spyglass.  When they look through it, then take it from their eye, they’re suddenly in the place they were looking at.

I could use some help coming up with a custom move for it.  The players were talking about travelling quickly through a forest (the world is very foresty, think Kashyyyk), scout ahead or ambush people, but I figure they’re likely to fall into a trap or get lost that way, especially with one person travelling alone.  Any ideas?

The Traitor’s Stone

The Traitor’s Stone

The Traitor’s Stone

It is said that an angel gave the Traitor’s Stone to good King Stephenson.  They say that those who lay their hands upon the stone and speak in truth are safe – verily, healed of ailments and debilities.  Those who speak in lies, however, become frozen as stone, embraced by time in a single moment (and placed in the Royal Garden to be enjoyed during parties)

What they say is true, but what no one says (for few know, and fewer still would risk mentioning it aloud) is that the adviser Shineous Palamore holds watch over the stone for the King, bringing it out when he ‘suspects’ someone in audience with His Majesty of subterfuge… and that Palamore pursues plots of his own.  The cur has destroyed the lives and reputations of several of the King’s most trusted vassals by seeding falsehoods in their thoughts and tricking them into swearing to them later.  For the Traitors Stone cares nothing for the beliefs of men, but only objective truth, and will hand out it’s “justice” to the pious but mistaken and spare the wicked deceiver who stumbles on fact.

(Possible Portents/Front material follows)

– Another adventuring party, contracted by The King, goes missing after successfully completing their taskings.  Their bodies are later found within the Royal Garden.  Those who live in The Keep live in fear of that stone and the box Palamore keeps it in, and may be… convinced… to explain the new ‘statues’.

– The King sends out a call for heroes to slay the Basilisk that froze an entire town a day’s ride from his capital.  The bodies are not stone, but frozen in keeping with those in the Royal Gardens.  A mighty conflict and great rewards do greet the heroes within the ‘Basilisk’s Lair’, a cavernous system of tunnels nearby… but no basilisk, or evidence of a basilisk, is to be found.   On a related note, Palamore has seemingly been gifted with prophecy, for he has gone through the town making people swear to future events in order to see which will, in fact, occur.

– Those formerly closest to the King have begun to be frozen.  They no longer reside stickly within the Royal Gardens but are scattered throughout the Royal Keep, as the Gardens will not hold them all.  The Good King has locked himself away, alone, speaking only to his most trusted Shineous Palamore.

– Palamore regretfully announced that The King is dead, poisoned by a traitorous cook.  The whole kitchen staff of the Keep is thrown from the parapets.  Palamore, laying his hand upon a stone RESEMBLING the Traitor’s Stone (or, from an elevated speaking position, mearly within the empty box which usually holds the stone) and swears that The King told him in his dying breaths that Palamore should take up his mantel and rule the Kingdom.

– Things go pearshaped throughout the land as a reasonable monarch is replaced with a narcissistic dictator.

Has anyone written a supplement that adds structure to creating magic items (or ritual effects in general)?

Has anyone written a supplement that adds structure to creating magic items (or ritual effects in general)?

Has anyone written a supplement that adds structure to creating magic items (or ritual effects in general)? The Ritual move itself is an ok start, but it doesn’t provide a lot of guidance for balancing “ok, how steep should the cost be for this particular effect”.

I’m playing the Wizard, and my DM kind of gets a panicky look every time I start talking about doing another Ritual. 🙂

Elemental Rapier

The blade and tang of this sword have been altered by exposure to the raw elemental forces that power the world.  The sword acts as a conduit between the physical and elemental planes, and has the capacity to channel energy between them.  Those who master the control of elemental magic are said to be able to shape the power that flows through objects such as this.  It’s hard to say what’s more dangerous though: an elemental conduit in the hands of a master or the raw uncontrolled power that flows through the conduit in the hands of the ignorant.

When the sword is in contact with a source of magical elemental energy, roll +Wis:

On a 10+, hold 3 Charge, and the elemental energy source is muted, blunted, or somehow otherwise reduced.

On a 7-9, as above, but hold only 1 Charge, and the GM will explain how a portion of the channeled energy escapes your control.

The wielder of the sword can, at any time, spend 1 Charge to unleash a stream of elemental energy (of the type of his choosing).

========Notes===========

– I’ve left the part about unleashing the energy very vague on purpose.  I intend to let the wielder experiment with different ways of using it, perhaps leading them to some kind of further learning, advanced moves, or even compendium classes.

– mechanically I’m thinking this is somewhat like the druid moves, where you get the “usage” part for free (no rolling to unleash thge energy) because the risky part is actually charging the thing.  I imagine that the charging is:

 A) sort of rare in that magical elemental energy sources aren’t common, and

B) pretty dangerous and prone to very bad consequences on a 6-.

Periapt of the Earthen Kings

When you use the periapts to move through stone as it were water, roll+CON. *On a 10+, you experience some discomfort, but arrive at your destination. *On a 7-9, a potent feeling of suffocation grips you. You arrive at your destination disoriented.

High Priest’s Silver Dagger

When you use this garnet-inlaid, silver-bladed dagger, roll+STR. On a 10+, you deal your damage to the enemy and avoid their attack. At your option, you may choose to do +1d6 damage but expose yourself to the enemy’s attack. Regardless, you gain one of the enemy’s moves, which you may use for the next few minutes. ✴On a 7–9, you deal your damage to the enemy and the enemy makes an attack against you. Also, you gain one of the enemy’s moves, which you may use for the next few minutes.

Umber Tome of Withered Zunlet

When you consult the tome, roll+INT. *On a 10+, ask the GM a question about a character. The GM will answer that question truthfully. *On a 7-9, ask the GM a question as previously described. The GM will answer that question truthfully, but the tome’s magic inflicts a deformity upon you.

Pewter Rings of Enoch VI

When you want, your fingers double in length and acquire giant strength.

Diadem of the Weylords

When you wear the diadem and speak a simple command, roll+CHA. *On a 10+, the target must obey you. *On a 7-9, the target must obey you, but the diadem’s magic stops working for several hours.

Fiendish Puzzle Box

Fiendish Puzzle Box

Fiendish Puzzle Box

Not clearly magical but just the product of fine and intricate craftsmanship, this box has no obvious lid or clasp.  However, on pushing a particular corner, geometric patterns extrude from its surfaces.  Manipulating the patterns should lead you to opening it eventually, but whenever you feel like you’ve almost opened it you find yourself inexplicably back where you started.  You’re sure that with time, though, you will be able to work it out.

When you make camp and spend your watch trying to open the box, roll+INT.  On a 10+, you manage to open the box.  On a 7-9, take +1 forward to your next attempt to open the box.  Either way, take -1 ongoing to Take Watch rolls tonight, if any.
