I’m currently looking for some ideas for a Holy Sword found by our group’s Paladin. It was found a few sessions ago, but we haven’t done anything special with it yet.

One thing I’ve noticed is this player has lots of fun with the “what here is evil?” question Paladins get to ask, so I was thinking of building something around that. Maybe gaining hold when an evil creature is slain?

Curious if anyone has other ideas!

The players killed a demon and found a strange magic item.

The players killed a demon and found a strange magic item.

After asking the players what the item could be they came up with this:

The demon was wearing a choker with the thorns on the inside and when you throw the choker at an opponent it chokes it to death.

When the opponent dies you can put the choker around your neck and

get some of the life energy from the opponent.

How would you put this into DW mechanics?

Seal of Solomon

“Do not call up that which you cannot put down.”

— H.P. Lovecraft

This iron signet ring is marked with highly intricate designs and runes. When you speak in a booming, commanding voice to a extraplanar being while wearing the Seal of Solomon, roll+CHA. *On a 10+ choose three. *On a 7-9 choose two. *On a 6- choose one anyway, but you’ll be getting a visit soon from a very irate deity.

– The being is banished from this plane.

– The being performs a simple command of your choice.

– The being answers one question you ask of it truthfully.

– Any spells, curses, or other magical effects caused by the being immediately end.

– You don’t anger the gods with your meddling.

Goblin Totem Weapon:

Goblin Totem Weapon:

Goblin Totem Weapon:

Mostly wielded by small folk like Goblins, Gnomes and Halflings.

Goblin Totems are very personal weapons and are shaped by the one who wields them rather than churned out by a mage guild.  Consequently over time these weapons can be modified by their wielders in many ways.

Base: +1 damage against any creature that size is greater than the wielder.

Addons:

-Small fetishes can be added to the weapon to provide +1 Parley bonus involving specific tribal races/cultures  (Goblinoids/lizard men/bullywogs/gnolls/etc) as it represents a familiarity with these groups gleaned after many battles/interactions with them .

-If a bow, worg fangs can be added to the ends to allow for melee

-if a dagger, giant snake fang can replace blade to add +1 Piercing for more effective delivery of poison

-if axe, blade replaced with jaw of a great beast, it’s fangs providing Messy tag

-if hammer, red orc runes can be added to the mallet that simply make it swing faster providing +Forceful tag

-if sword, scabbard whose interior is lined with the gall and kidney stones from a troll that sharp the blade every time it is sheathed or drawn, +1 piercing

These are just some examples of how a Goblin Totem Weapon can be improved.  Every great battle or adventure can provide the opportunity for the weapon to be improved.

Hmmm, can I introduce Thundarr’s Sunsword into my DW campaign without my savy players realizing it?

Thundarr’s Sunsword: Close, +1d6 damage, ignores armor, messy.

Thundarr’s sword appears as a simple hilt without a blade.  When activated, a blade of flame-like energy springs forth from the hilt.

While active, the Sunsword sheds light as a torch.

Seems kinda boring.  Can anyone pepper this thing up?  (David Guyll)

So going through my notes I found this.  Can’t remember if I made it up or stole and modified it but here it is.

Ring of Escape

When you are in danger and have to get out NOW! roll+Int

On a 10+ choose 3, on 7-9 choose 2, on a 6- choose 1 but. . .

You leave the danger behind.

You arrive someplace safe.

You bring the ring with you.

You bring your allies with you.

____

Megingjörð [2 weight]

When first worn, Megingjörð has 1d4+1 charges. *you may spend a charge at any time, 1 for 1, to: perform one feat of immense strength, like throwing a horse-cart over the horizon, or diverting the course of a river with your bare hands.

When you dip Megingjörð into the blood of a freshly slain Jötunn, add +1 charge.

This staff was crafted from the root of an ancient tree (, it holds power over the natural world. The staff seems to have the ability to make brambles, or tree branches that can entangle or trip an opponent.

(so the idea here is a staff that can cause things to just get in the way of enemies any suggestion?)

A hammer crafted by the lost god of the Dwarfs The Crafter, this hammer was shaped from the first iron ever mined from the world, it has had many owners over the years since, all of them leaders among the dwarfs of the world.

(I have no idea what it should do, something fun)

Does anyone have any moves, rules or ideas for playing a character who is a sentient weapon or other item?
