#paladinweek  I just wrote up a compendium class called the Divine Crusader. It basically lets a paladin (or cleric, or druid/ranger who worships a deity) form a stronger bond with their god, and the boons that come along with that. It’s inspired by the Favored Soul class and the Divine Crusader PrC of 3.5, as well as my class, the Champion, which will be coming out in Grim Portents Issue #2.

A myriad of questions about CCs!

A myriad of questions about CCs!

A myriad of questions about CCs!

How do you introduce compendium classes? Is it right when the “prerequisite” is fulfilled? Do you wait until a level-up moment? Do you show your players “this is what CCs are available and one of the ways to become eligible for use” and use it like a magic item (like more of a “quest reward”)?

How do you choose a compendium class to offer? Do you have one in mind (e.g. a pirate themed CC) going into a session/campaign and look for an opportunity to offer it? Or is it more of a player-driven exercise; where the players decide they want to make an impact on their character’s growth using a CC?

Do you allow more than one character to take the same compendium class? Skimming through a bunch of them, some of the prerequisites seem like something the whole party might do together – who gets offered the CC after it’s completed?

Hallowmarked

When you accept the power of the Hallow, you may take the following move when you level up.

Eldritch Bolt

When you release a part of the Hallow’s power to attack, roll +WIS: *On a 10+, deal your damage plus WIS and choose 1 from the list. On a 7-9, choose 1. On a miss, the Hallow’s energy overwhelms you for a short time, as determined by the GM.

 – The target is severely distracted by eldritch visions

 – The target is psychically wounded as well as physically, +2 damage

 – You become attuned to the eldritch energy now in the creature, +1 forward against that creature

When you have the move Eldritch Bolt, you may choose the following moves when you level up. They now count as class moves.

Eldritch Sense

When you discern realities, you may always ask “What here is from another plane?” regardless of whether you succeed or fail.

Eldritch Knowledge

When you successfully spout lore about something from the Beyond, gain a +1 forward when acting on the answers

Eldritch Empowerment

When you call upon the Hallow in combat, roll +CHA: On a 10+, hold 2. On a 7-9, hold 1. Spend hold 1-for-1 to command an enemy you have attacked to do something by using the power of the Hallow. The definition of “something” should be negotiated with the GM.

Ambassador (Compendium Class) – Feedback?

Hey all – I made my very first CC! It’s a very rough draft and is only 2 pages. It will likely have a few more moves than are there currently, and nothing has been tested yet but I’m hoping I can get some general feedback!

Specifically, I like the idea of requiring a certain threshold of “hold” (+Steading in this case) in order to trigger some moves, so I’m curious about your thoughts on that too.

Thanks!

Context: Crystal is something extraplanar that randomly spawns over the world, like a plague, originating in each place from an Obelisk. Those Obelisks are actually Waypoints that one can enter and use to exit in other places in the world.

What do you think? My first Compendium Class, be nice 😛

Here is a compendium class I’ve been working on.

Here is a compendium class I’ve been working on.

Here is a compendium class I’ve been working on. For a bit of context, in my setting there is an organization call the Eye of Infinity. They’re a group of magic users that took upon themselves to deal with spell casters that became too powerful for mortals to deal with. The Eye appear before any such wizard and demand he submit to the terms of the order, or be destroyed. “The Eye of Infinity is watching, among the shadows, beyond reality”.

The Infinity Watcher

When the Eye of Infinity has appeared before you and you’ve accepted their terms, the next time you level up you may choose to gain this move:

Gaze of Infinity

When you focus you power into your Mind’s Eye, roll +INT. on a 10+, choose 2. On a 7-9, choose 1. On a 6-, choose one but the objects of your gaze looks back at you.

– You feel the presence of mortals with magical powers in your general area and can tell when they’re using their powers.

– You feel the presence of a specific individual you’re familiar with, knows the direction they’re located at and can tell when they’re using their magical powers.

– You feel the presence of Places of Power in your area and can tell whether they were used for a Ritual and what was its nature.

If you have the move Gaze of Infinity, these count as class moves for you; you can choose from them when you level up:

Beyond Reality

The following option is added to the Gaze of Infinity: You feel the presence of mortals crossing the boundaries between worlds in some fashion. Maybe they’re communing with the spirits of the Dead Zone, or siphoning power from the Demon Realm.

Among the Shadows

When you’ve felt the presence of a specific individual and came in direct contact with them, you may Mark them. You will forever be able to feel the presence of the Mark and know when their using their magical powers. You may only place a Mark on one person at a time.

Endgame

Requires: Among the Shadows.

When you confronts your Mark and give them an ultimatum, parley using +INT instead of +CHA. If the Mark rejects your terms, roll +CON.

On a 10+, their burned by the power of their innate magic. Roll your damage +Constitution. If the Mark survived the ordeal, they’re forever cut from all magic in the world.

On a 7-9, you cannot contain the magical surge and suffer the same damage as the Mark. If you live, the powers of the Eye will prevent you from losing your magic- this time.

On a miss, the magical onslaught burn completely at your soul. You suffer the damage and if alive, your connection to all magic is severed, permanently.

The Ethereal

When you have lost or abandoned your physical body, the next time you level up you may take the following move instead of a move from your class:

Ephemereal

You do not have a physical body. You can pass through physical matter, including people, but you cannot pick up physical objects.

When you have taken the above move, you may take any of the following moves instead of a move from your class when you level up:

Nine Tenths

When you attempt to possess the sleeping or unconscious body of someone or something, roll+Wis. *On a 10+, You gain total control of the body. *On a 7-9, you have to regularly struggle with your host’s consciousness to maintain control.

Poltergeist

When you attempt to move an object with your strong emotions, roll+Wis. *On a 10+, choose 1. *On a 7-9, choose 2:

You make a terrible mess.

Someone’s put in danger.

You leave ectoplasmic residue behind.

You break something.

What Dreams May Come

When you touch the minds of those grieving for their departed loved ones, roll+Wis. *On a 10+, choose 1 now, and hold 1 for later. *On a 7-9, choose 1. *On a miss, the GM chooses one. Spend hold, 1 for 1, on the following:

You drive them into a vengeful fervor.

You bring them peace and acceptance.

You destroy their will to live.

This CC grew from a discussion with the fighter’s player, who comes from 3.5. I was explaining to him why having Merciless, Scent of Blood and Improved Weapon (and Viper’s Strike) all together is actually balanced, because balance in DW is something different from what balance means in games like D&D, and hacking scent of blood to do +1d6 damage instead of +1d4 because it’s conditional would be nonsense. Then I had this insight: if the fighter is the king of damage, the slayer is the emperor! They need MORE STACKING DAMAGE!

I present you

THE SLAYER

When you when you seek redemption by death in combat, the next time you level up, you can take this move:

Trollslaying

When you attack a formidable opponent, you deal +1d4 damage.

If you have Trollslaying, you can take these moves when you level up.

Giantslaying

Replaces: Trollslaying

When you attack a formidable opponent, you deal +1d8 damage.

Dragonslaying

You have +1 armor against formidable opponents.

Daemonslaying

When you kill an opponent, you may deal your damage to nearby opponents.
