Quick question about CCs that I probably missed in the rules: when they say “When you [cool thing the character did] … you may take these moves when you level up”, is that INSTEAD of a regular advanced class move, or in ADDITION to?

My initial thinking was “instead of”, but that seems like it would cut off a bunch of cool abilities a character could get via their class’s advanced moves before hitting level 10 if they do decide to pursue a CC. Could CC moves be played as bonus moves players get in addition to advanced class moves when they level up? (or, is that how it’s supposed to work?)

So here’s my first jab at a Compendium Class, the Lich, because our wizard actually turned into one as of last game.

And man, I think I suck at it. >.> Neither of the Advanced moves feel particularly right, while I still feel like there should be a third move that suggests some kind of mastery for necromantic magic. Suggestions for improving it will be welcome!

I was wondering if any of you wise Tavern patrons ever came up with a wildling-type compendium class.

Any leads?

After reading a converstation on the DW subreddit, i thought id have a go at designing a pacifist CC.

When the horror of fighting has become too much, and you swear to lay down your arms and do no violence again in your life, gain the following moves immediately.

In the name of Peace

You have a new stat: Peace. Peace starts at 0, but can be raised to +3 or lowered to -3. Each time you roll +Peace, reduce the Peace stat after you have resolved the move.

Suffering Paragon

When you suffer harm without violently resisting, gain 1 Peace.

The Vow

When you choose to stand by and not intervene with violence to stop another’s suffering, gain 2 Peace.

Open Palm

When you peacefully stand firm to defend a place, person, or ideal in the face of violence or opposition, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your resolve causes the aggressor to back off. On a 7-9, they hesitate, or look for support from subordinates or superiors, the GM will tell you how.

Voice of Reason

When you speak passionately for finding a peaceful resolution to a tense, charged situation, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your words move hearts and minds, and the situation calms down. On a 7-9, Your words need some action or sacrifice to give them enough meaning – the GM will tell you what.

Breaking Point

When you forgo your vow of nonviolence and attack someone, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your soul is stained by your disregard of your vow, lose all Pacifist moves and never take them again. In addition, you are now known as an oathbreaker wherever you go. On a 7-9, your actions are understandable, but shake your belief in your cause, set your Peace to 3. On a 6, you justify your actions as necessary and right in this circumstance at least.

Last one for the 4e Campaign I’m porting.  Another focused CC (for a fighter character) called the Guardian.  Any feedback is appreciated.

I have a player who wants to start gathering a lot of hirelings together and eventually create his own army to raid, pillage, and other nasty things.  I told him the best bet would probably be a Compendium Class, so I started to draw one up in preparation of the eventual day he has enough followers for it. This is the Warlord. What does everyone think? Comments and critique?

Another CC I’m working on.  This is for the same 4e campaign I’m porting to DW as the Pyromancer I already posted, so this CC is very focused and is obviously connected directly to the Thief base class.  I’m fairly happy with what I have so far and three of the moves you may recognize from Peter Johansen ‘s Assassin CC build.  Thanks to him for letting me borrow them.  I’m posting here not just to share but to get some input on how useful (or not) individual moves may be within this CC.

So I’m new to GMing Dungeon World and also to creating Compendium Classes and this is my first attempt at the latter.  I’m creating it so I can port my wife’s 4e wizard (who is a pyromancer) to DW in a way that will stay true to her character concept.  Please let me know what you think and what can be improved.  It will take a while for me to fully grasp what’s too much and what isn’t enough.
