Anyway, the move is inspired by the D&D spell of the same name. And maybe Avada Kedavra, or the Last Word. It may be too strong, though. >.>

So here’s my first jab at a Compendium Class, the Lich, because our wizard actually turned into one as of last game.

And man, I think I suck at it. >.> Neither of the Advanced moves feel particularly right, while I still feel like there should be a third move that suggests some kind of mastery for necromantic magic. Suggestions for improving it will be welcome!

One of the dangers in our current game is a death knight that the party accidentally released from its tomb-prison. Needless to say, there is a definite #undead presence in the game.

Now the wizard character has been using Spout Lore a lot to determine specific undead-related stuff. For awhile I neglected to ask how his character knew about such things. Then after he rolled a 12 once and after I detailed some very specific information, I suddenly asked, “how does Lilliastre know about these things?”

Interestingly, the other players responded with, 1) “yeah, the elf does know an unusual amount of stuff about undead.” 2) coughcough #necromancer coughcough 3) ‘maybe s/he’s not as pristine as s/he looks.” To which the elf replied, “hey, we all have our hobbies.”

Eventually the game went on, but after the end of session move, the wizard player then asked me if there was a way for his character to start delving into “undead matters.” I told him that I’ll look around for options online.

Now here’s the thing – my Google-fu is weak right now and I can’t seem to find any. Can anyone help me loom into necromancy options in Dungeon World? Anything from new wizard spells to relevant compendium classes to actual necromancer classes to just straight-up advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I’m thinking of adding a rifle as a weapon in my game.

I’m thinking of adding a rifle as a weapon in my game.

I’m thinking of adding a rifle as a weapon in my game. So far we have a tropical setting, and I want the rifle to be 16th century-ish. So among other things it should take awhile to reload, is a botch to maintain given situations of having to swim or slog through rain, but should still be appealing somehow.

Offhand, that probablt has the reload tag and maybe piercing or a bonus to damage. Should it also outrange a crossbow?

Hehe help in statting it would be appreciated, guys. Thanks!

Here’s the first adventure front that I made for my game.

Here’s the first adventure front that I made for my game. I hope it’s flexible enough to fit in after I figure out the inputs from the other five players later today, but for now I like it. It might be a tad too specific, though.

What do you guys think?

I’ll be starting my second GM of DW tomorrow, and this time it looks like it’s going to be a long-term game. We haven’t done character creation yet, but I got them to choose their class, at least, so I’d know what abilities to expect. I have six players! I hope that’s not too crowded yet.

* The one guy who took my option to preserve his character from our one-shot has a thief with 5xp. His deal with Death (he had to do a last breath last time) is the basis for my only adventure front so far.

* Another guy who was in the one-shot is going for the free barbarian found in the website. I find it odd that the bbn has less hp than a fighter, but that’s probably just my dnd sensibilities kicking in. Nevertheless I’m excited to see it on action.

* The other four characters are bard, druid, ranger and wizard. I haven’t seen the wizard yet, but it’s the class I’ve been meaning to use as a player so it’s exciting. 😀 Also, the bardic healing seems… Spammable. I’m eager to see if I can limit that through game fiction without having the player feeling gimped.

Wish me luck!

Okay.

Okay.

Okay. I finished my first read-through of the rulebook. I got to play once (so far) as a paladin in Tobie Abad’s game. I even got to run a short “free taste” game for three of my buddies. I like what I see, so far, and my friends agree. Now I just want to know if it can support long-running campaigns.

Personally, I like demon lords/archdevils as BBEG’s: One of the popular D&D ones will likely be the center of my campaign front in the longstanding game that I’m about to start. In D&D demon lords are all about the STATS! But here in Dungeon World, they will likely be scary through the game fiction, and their monster elements will be comparable to an apocalypse dragon I guess.

On that note, here’s a question for the community: What elements do you suggest I employ to evoke the feeling that a monster is a demon lord? Will their mere presence ravage the land? Should I design custom moves that will trigger when the characters see their their unnatural forms? Will they shrug off normal attacks and spells? Things like that.

Hello!

Hello!

Hello!

I am a very recent DW convert. (I just bought the pdf  from drivethrurpg this morning!) I’ll be playing in my first game under my friend Tobie Abad as the GM. I think I’ll be doing the paladin dance, which is a first time ever for me, in any system (unless blackguards count).

As a way of introducing myself, I guess I’m a latecomer to the hobby, having started in D&D 3.5. I did a couple of Filipino-themed pdf’s for #dnd4e  as a vampire kitten called Nosfecatu Publishing, but with a new edition for that game that has stalled for the time being.

Maybe DW is what I had been looking for. ^__^
