The Smuggler

When you act as a middle-man in dealing with the black-market or other illegal businesses you may take this move when you level up.

Everyone has an angle in life. Yours is always to be one step ahead of the other guy. Everyone is looking for something better, you know where to find it.

When you broker a deal with a questionable trading partner roll+CHA. On a 10+ they can acquire your item or information with no complications. On a 7-9 they can acquire your item over longer period of time and the GM picks two complications. On a 6- they don’t know where to find you item or information you need and you have three complications.

•        Your supplier silently lets word out on the market about your arrangements.

•        Your supplier is suspicious of your track record and delivers a substandard item or outdated information.

•        Your buyer backs out in fear and hangs you out to dry with the supplier.

•        Your buyer covers their tracks and turns you in to the authorities.

•        A rival appears to compete with you for the said item or information.

•        Authorities have been alerted to your practices and are now looking for you.

Once you’ve taken Smuggler, the following moves count as class moves and you may choose from this list whenever you level up.

Don’t anger the Wookie – You may recruit an extraordinary hireling with 10 points to be distributed between loyalty and skills. This hireling has high loyalty and low cost as determined by the fiction.

You never heard of? You may acquire a steed of extraordinary ability, choose two.

•        Faster than the average steed

•        Larger than the average steed

•        More durable than the average steed

•        Usual transportation – flys, swims underwater or has some other fiction determined mode.

•        Is as intelligent as a character

I wouldn’t necessarily limit this to animals only, flying carpets, mobile huts or other things could be potentially acceptable.

That bad, huh?  You may discern realities when you are in a dire situation. Roll+Wis. One a 10+ ask the GM 3 questions from the list below. On a 7-9, ask 1.

•        Who can I talk to in order to prolong the consequences?

•        Who here might be sympathetic to my cause?

•        What around here may be useful to devise a plan?

•        What is the quickest route out of trouble?

Not really happy with That bad huh, and will probably tweak it somewhere down the road.

Looking forward to your feedback and comments.

Arcane Trickster

Arcane Trickster

Arcane Trickster

Here’s my attempt at an Arcane Trickster type compendium class. Feedback appreciated! As always feel free to alter it to best suit yoru game(s).

When you rob a wizard, despite their best magical protections, mechanical traps and arcane wards, you may take this move when you level up:

Arcane Trickster:

You are especially skilled at dealing with magical foes. DEX is always an option for you when Defying Danger against magical effects.

Once you’ve taken Arcane Trickster, the following moves count as class moves and you may choose from this list whenever you level up.

What’s Mine Is Mine:

Whenever the Arcane Trickster is searched, the Arcane Trickster can decide what items are or are not found on their person. Some or all of the Tricksters items can remain hidden, regardless of how well they are searched. This ability does not negate the weight of items and normal encumbrance rules apply.

What’s Yours Is Mine:

The Arcane Trickster can use the thief move “Tricks of the Trade” on any appropriate target within Near range without having to come into physical contact with it at all. If the character does not have “Tricks of the Trade” they acquire that move as well.

Now You See Me!:

If the Arcane trickster is out of sight for even a second, they can create an illusionary duplicate of themselves. The duplicate can be easily controlled but must remain within Near range of the Trickster and be seen by the Trickster. If touched, the illusion will fade and the deception will be revealed.

Now You Don’t!:

If the Trickster is out of sight for even a second, they can become invisible as per the first level Wizard Spell: Invisibility.

I haven’t liked any of the shapeshifter classes that I’ve seen so far, so I made my own, and based it off of the Kandra from Brian Sanderson’s Mistborn series (great books!)

I’ve also updated the Allomancer Playbook from the same series.

The Kandra relies on switching from playbook to playbook. It isn’t for everyone, and there are severe limitations. But it’s more of what I imagine a shapeshifter would be like.

So I’m working on a compendium class to make available to my Thief who has started listening to an intelligent (and cursed) dagger and our last session ended with him murdering a pirate lord who had been prepared as a sacrifice on a place of power, but tuning the ritual into the dagger instead of it’s intended target.

Basically, his action gives him a bond with his dagger, “I have much to learn from my dagger ” and he can now make bonds with his dagger instead of his allies. The overall motif of the powers will be shadow based and allow the thief to move through shadow and command shadow, sort of a shadowdancer concept. My idea was that any abilities granted by this class will have him roll + his bond with the dagger instead of a stat.

My question is: is using Bond as a stat interesting or is it just taking away from opportunities to have connection to other players at the table? My idea was that I get to write the bonds when he makes one with the dagger, so that if he wants XP from completing those bonds, I can shape/encourage him to behave a certain way. It puts the reins in his hands. If he wants to reliably use the abilities of the dagger, he plays to the desires of the controlling spirit. I’m trying to simulate the temptation of an outside influence that way.

What do you think?

I’ve made a tiny CC for myself, what do you all think of it? It’s called The Prince of the Gates.

Hey guys, has anyone heard or seen a thief based compendium class.

Hey guys, has anyone heard or seen a thief based compendium class. I am trying to find something that deals with doing major robberies or major heist. For example: stealing the royal crown jewels. I am constructing a new class and my group uses compendium classes for backgrounds. I am almost done and that is all I need.
