This is for my LotFP game, but it might carry over, depending on your philosophy on how justified a GM is in lying to players when fictionally appropriate.

PLAYER FACING INFORMATION :

Deepest Sleep (Wizard Spell, level 5)

Deepest Sleep causes one target of the caster’s choosing within eyesight to drop into a coma-like state.  They will remain unconscious until at least the next dawn.  They will not awaken, even if exposed to loud noises, grievous harm, or smelling salts.

GM FACING INFORMATION:

Deepest Sleep (Wizard Spell, Level 5)

Deepest Sleep puts a single target of the caster’s choice within eyesight into a coma-like state, and opens their essence to the Realm of the Waiting Beyond the Veil.  The core of who they are is ripped out to be feasted on by the Wailers Beyond the Veil.  Sometime, after the next dawning of the sun, a Wailer will infiltrate the vacant body, gaining all of it’s memories and abilities, as per a changeling.

Only creatures native to the plane where it is being used may cast the Deepest Sleep spell.

Compendium Class

When you’ve found a way beyond the Veil to inhabit the realm of man and beast :

Choose a new alignment, replacing the old one on the character sheet.

EVIL : Ensure that Deepest Sleep is cast on more victims, opening the way for your brothers.

CHAOTIC : Betray the trust of those who associated with your new vehicle.

The following moves become available to you as Class Moves when you level :

Just a Vehicle – Gain the Bloody Aegis move from the Paladin playbook.

Skimming – With concentration you can read the surface thoughts of anyone nearby.  You cannot guide their thoughts or see anything other than what is going through their minds at the time.

Untethered Vision – As a stranger to this plane, you can see things camouflaged against the natives.  Illusionary magics have no effect on you, and you can immediately identify  other Outsiders and where they came from.

Mini-Fronts :

Anyone the players cast this on (and don’t murder in their sleep, naturally) begin abandoning obligations and showing subtle signs of madness.  Particularly cruelty and sadism.

Compendium Class: Doppelganger

Compendium Class: Doppelganger

Compendium Class: Doppelganger

You did the Take Watch move and several 6s later your dead at the hands of a Doppelganger!

Wanted to make a class for this type of old trope, or maybe for a character who wandered off in a dungeon and then is met back in town. Could be used for other “body snatched” type scenarios as well.

When you are overcome and replaced by a Doppleganger take this move next time you level up:

A whole new man!

When a Doppelganger behaves in a manner different then the person they are impersonating, roll+CHA. On a 10 or more you can explain it away as your new attitude/mindset/religious view, etc. On a 7-9 you hesitate too long or your facts are a little off. On a 6 or less it is clear you are doing something suspicious.

Some ideas for moves:

Knowing what’s next:

the Doppelganger’s telepathic abilities often let it anticipate what’s expected of them, as such you can always ask “What is about to happen here?” when Discerning Realities, even on a 6 or less.

Faces in the crowd:

When you changes faces quickly to escape detection, roll+INT. On a 10+ you avoid detection.  On a 7-9 you aren’t the guy they’re are looking for, but there’s something off about you. On a 6 or less the transformation has gone awry.

Do I know you?

When you are approached by a victim’s friend and they question you, roll+INT, in a 10+ your telepathy allows you to answer the question exactly as they expect you too. On a 7-9 you answer satisfies them for now, but hey still need convincing. On a 6 or less, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

What’s on your mind?

You have honed your telepathy to be able to read a little deeper than surface thoughts. When you have time and concentrate on scanning someone, roll+INT. On a 10+ you can ask 2 questions from the list below. On a 7-9 you can ask 1.

-How does this person expect me to behave?

-What memories does this person share with my victim?

-What about me is not as they expect?

-How does this person feel about my victim?

-Are they being honest?

-What is their general mood?

EDIT

New Alignment might be needed as well:

Evil: Shift blame or consequences by impersonating another.

Chaotic: Benefit yourself by creating confusion or paranoia

Neutral: Stay safe by imitating another

Just kind of spit-balling with it at this point. Any and all help appreciated.

One of the most common concerns I hear about DW is that with only 10 levels, the game doesn’t feel built for a long campaign. I put this together as an answer to this concern.

I have no idea or not if this would work, or even make sense.

I have no idea or not if this would work, or even make sense… It’s a quasi-CC that you can give to a dead PC if you want them to linger around as a ghost a little while longer.

I will say that the reason behind forcing the Compendium Class on the character, as well as resetting their experience to 0, is based upon the fact that the ONLY way you can get this Compendium Class is to die and fail your Last Breath roll. Your character is already dead, so I don’t feel that forcing this on them is terrible.

It also fits within the lore of the world that we are playing in (Quintus is attempting to overthrow Death and is recruiting via this method). The players love the idea so far, but this is the first time I’m actually hammering down the mechanics.

THAT ALL BEING SAID, I’m open to all critique, particularly about resetting experience to 0. Some might lose 1 xp, some might lose 6, which is a bit uneven, of course.

Good Compendium Class Lich

Have a Drider character who is on the way to Lichdom (or being killed by party members….again) but am not having much luck finding a good compendium class Lich. Does anyone know of any? If not I’ll share what moves I can come up with.

Thanks!
