“Outsider” can mean elf, human, dwarf, halfling, lizardman, mastodon, thri-kreen, etc etc from somewhere-not-here but it can ALSO mean TIME TRAVELLER or something weirder, still.  Dead man brought back to life?  Embodied elemental accidentally trapped on our plane.

Get crazy with it.

I was just re-reading the DW rulebook, and noticed something that I really love.  Among all of the “actual play” type dialogue examples of the basic moves in action, there is usually one example for each move of the GM making a bad call, and either catching themselves or having a player point it out and the GM correcting themselves on the fly.  For whatever reason, this just makes me so happy (probably because it makes me less nervous about making crappy calls myself).  Well done, Adam and Sage.

Here’s a map I made from our Dungeon World game. Last night was our second session. The PCs are currently in Gold Wall, to the east. Over the past two sessions the PCs have learned of most of the places on the map and were just given an actual map, so I threw this together this morning.

I think this KickStarter was posted a while back when they were still deciding which systems to use. DW is a definite now. They also have a few other systems and some system-neutral options.

I’ve been very pleased with Inkwell’s items. I used their Dungeon Morph dice (and cards once I bought them) to run Dungeon World at GenCon this past summer. They worked very well for mapping out the dungeon. I had made my own cards for monster stats then, but I can see these as very useful.

My second #dungeonworld  adventure front is up on RPGNow. This one is an homage to the classic TSR module I3 – Pharaoh. I’m asking $.50 once again and 100% proceeds go towards convincing me to keep producing more. http://www.rpgnow.com/product/109416/DW-I3-The-Pharaoh%27s-Curse

If you would prefer to pay nothing, it can also be downloaded from a link on RPGG.

Next up is UK1 – Beyond the Crystal Cave which should come out in February.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone.

Sometime ago Aleksandr Ermakov gave me a link to this discussion (http://story-games.com/forums/discussion/comment/400873#Comment_400873) and mini-hack mentioned there. I was impressed and even had a post (http://mycampaigns.blogspot.ru/2012/12/blog-post_6356.html) in my blog about it (it’s in Russian). It is very short hack (more a custom move probably) so here:

When you resist harm, the MC will tell you what injury threatens your life. Roll+number of hit points you’d like to spend. One a hit, choose options. On a 13+, all of them. On a 10+, choose 2. On a 7-9, choose 1.

* You can ignore this injury for now, it doesn’t hamper you

* You got lucky: the injury’s not as big a deal as it seemed

* You maintain your position or advantage, and can react immediately (maybe even take +1forward)

On a miss, you suffer the injury in full, right now.

I liked it very much and thought about using it in my upcoming DW campaign. Then vsh (its reader handle) mentioned that this hack has a problem – it doesn’t account for armor. Any thoughts about how it can be fixed?

WHAT WE LEARNED.

WHAT WE LEARNED.

WHAT WE LEARNED.

– Human civilization is just post iron-age, and centers on a single massive city-state with sub-states.

– Humanity is sponsored by and worships a single deity

– The Man-God is actually just an upstart, mysterious, incredibly powerful animistic spirit

– The Storm Queen has allied the tribes against the Legions of Man spreading into the wilderness

– Avon and Kithracet have both met the Storm Queen, but only Kithracet knows her as such, and is working in secret for her gain

– All Elves hail from the Southern Continent

– Dark Elves walk the old paths, High Elves are imperialistic and have advanced science

– Swamps and mire have slowed Elven advancement into human lands

– All magi can know their own with a secret sign

– Spirits learn ambition from humans and a hunger for worship, growing fat, wicked and corrupt

– Women are forbidden by law to wield magic, except Holy Virgins

– Avon does not give even one fuck about that last rule, she does what she wants

– Cassius met with a local heretic, a sweet, kind, community-focused woman who left the city-state behind and her awful life in the slums to make a new life in the frontier.  Surprisingly, he did not kill her or act like a dick.  Unfortunately, she is a secret snake cultist and has used her charm magic on him.  It’s complicated.

Yig the All-Mighty, Mammodon Barbarian

Shank (not his real name), the Thief

Kithracet, Dark-Elven Fighter

Cassius, Beautiful Facist Paladin

Avon, the Child-Wizardess

In the first session, we hit the ground running with a burning inn and some very angry primordial-reptile cultists out to get the PCs.  After the danger was escaped, we found out why the PCs were here (investigating some disappearances) and learned a little about the world.  Some of my favourite gems;

– Shank has a very shady past he’s running from

– Dark Elves / High Elves are divided by their emotions (like Romulans / Vulcans)

– The Mammodon are an ancient race, dedicated to guardianship of the Dragon Graveyard in the Far North

– Cassius worships God.  The God.  He is everywhere.  Thing is, God hates women and non-humans.  Cassius, however, does not.  This is a source of pain and shame for him.

– Avon was abandoned by her mother, a hedge-witch, and has been fending for herself with the help of Yig

I’m really excited to learn more about, well, shit … everything.
