While many settlements will be truly independent, others may have (or owe) allegiance to a particular group or power.

p.s. Sites of worship or power may also have allegiance, in this case to a god or some other power.

It seems like there is no “Priest” equivalent in the Follower list, and no mention of how a follower might help with healing.  Is this intentional?

Awesome book!

Attempting to chronicle our current playtest campaign of Freebooters. We’re using all of the moves and tools in The Perilous Wilds for the wilderness exploration and dungeon bits. This first post is just about the setting creation.

Ben Milton, Ben George, and Antoine Pempie, I’ve uploaded an alternate pdf of Freebooters with “don’t be a dick” removed and “chaste,””lewd,” and “lustful” replaced on the Vice/Virtue tables. You can find it in the backer access folder with “kidfriendly” in its title.

These changes will be in this alternate version of the pdf only — the basic Freebooters pdf and the eventual print version will retain the original wording.

Let me know if you encounter any other problems, and I’ll do my best to address them!

FBotF mentions requiring Dungeon World to play, but it seems pretty self contained.

FBotF mentions requiring Dungeon World to play, but it seems pretty self contained. Is this like how OD&D claims you need Chainmail to play, but you don’t really. I haven’t played Dungeon World. Is there obvious stuff that won’t make sense or I’ll be missing out on if I actually try and run FBotF?

This thing is really cool, also.

FotF – Healing Ability Damage calls out the Make Camp move as a means to regain lost ability points, but the closest mention to to that in the move itself seems to be ‘you may Level Up’, which would recover 1 burned luck.

It’s also not clear until part 3 of the Plumbing Procedure that “the number of common and unique areas should each equal the area limit”, and that sort of clarification would be nicer under the ‘Dungeon Size’ section. (‘Dungeon Size’ and ‘Dungeon Areas’ both have vague wording that could imply either [size = total areas] OR [size = number of unique and size = number of common]).

Page 18, under Loyalty:  “It usually starts at 0 but chnages often,…”.  The 0 should be +1 (see page 21, step 5) and the “chnages” should be “changes”.

Page 19, under Follower Moves:  “and can make the Death’s Door move”… should be *Last Breath” (Death’s Door was in my original text from Stonetop).

Small suggestion.

Small suggestion.

Small suggestion. I would remove the more sexually-charged virtues and vice: chastity, lustful, lewd, etc. If a group is just randomizing characters, they might end up with a character that they are very uncomfortable playing. Plus, those keywords (and the Don’t be a Dick rule) make it harder to play with younger players. This might be more of a concern to me, since I mostly run games for 5th graders, but I thought I might bring it up.

Really like the vibe of what I’ve seen so far.

Really like the vibe of what I’ve seen so far. However, reading the draft, one thing has struck me as slightly odd regarding the moves associated with certain sites – Ghost Hollow as an example. It seems to me that the 7-9 results should be used for 6-, and that there should be some mid-level result (maybe with a player choice) at 7-9. Maybe someone else has already questioned this and you’ve explained and I just didn’t see.
