Really glad to see the Kickstarter do well. So… I hate to be that guy, but will the new game be kid-friendly? I’ve got students whom I would love to toss a printout and watch create a world, but stuff like cuss words or “When you ransack a brothel, roll+strength…” would mark me as the creepy teacher, ya know? If you’re trying to make a more mature game, that’s cool, but if it’s not strictly necessary, maybe think about us teachers. Love your work, can’t wait to play the finished product.

Not a typo, but something about the dungeon theme countdown should probably be clarified.

Not a typo, but something about the dungeon theme countdown should probably be clarified. Perilous Wilds p. 54 and p. 56 says that they depend on the dungeon’s size, but I can’t find anything about it on p. 55. Reading the example and looking at the templates in the Survival Kit, I assume that the number of themes is also the countdown for each of them, but it’s not clearly written.

Thanks!

I was reading the amazing new exploration and follower mechanics and thought maybe the original Dungeon World Ranger moves would need some tweaks, specially the animal companion thing. What do you guys think?

Matt Horam brings up the point that the DW Encumbrance move has some awkward wording, and has requested the wording be changed in the moves summary in Perilous Wilds Survival Kit.

Here’s what it says now:

———-

Encumbrance

When you make a move while carrying weight, you may be encumbered. If your weight carried is…

… equal to or less than your load, you suffer no penalty.

… less than or equal to your load+2, you take -1 ongoing until you lighten your burden.

… greater than your load+2, drop at least 1 weight and roll at -1, or automatically fail.

———-

Matt has requested that the second option—”… less than or equal to your load+2, you take -1 ongoing until you lighten your burden”—be changed to something like, “… exceeds your load by 1 or 2, you take -1 ongoing until you lighten your burden.”

Reading the original move, though, it seems clear that all three options are worded for consistency (“equal to or less than,” “less than or equal to,” “greater than”). So what about:

———-

Encumbrance

When you make a move while carrying weight, you may be encumbered. If your weight carried…

… does not exceed your load, you suffer no penalty.

… exceeds your load by 1 or 2, you take -1 ongoing until you lighten your burden.

… exceeds your load by 3 or more, drop at least 1 weight and roll at -1, or automatically fail.
