Last night I had a Channeler in my game (my wife) use Summon Elemental. When it got loose it started attacking willy-nilly. She finally had the idea to use Bender of the Elements to make the elemental move out a window, after which it flew off on its own. My main question is, has anyone else used Bender of the Elements to “control” an elemental that has gotten out of control? It seemed to be reasonable through the wording, but I wanted other peoples’ opinions on the matter.

What is your favorite monster that you have made into a “hireling” or companion to the party?

What is your favorite monster that you have made into a “hireling” or companion to the party? Mine is a gargoyle the party found named Alabaster. They found him in an abandoned library. He loved to read and write while he traveled with them and he could provide information on ancient history, while also being a sort of magical creature early warning system. They left him in a cave with a friendly Medusa after helping her with a dracolisk that was encroaching on her territory. He and the Medusa took a liking to each other, so after the campaign ended it was assumed they lived happily ever after. Emphasis on the “ever” since neither of them ages lol

Has anyone ever spoken with Sage or Adam about making anything like Dungeon World shirts or anything like that?

Has anyone ever spoken with Sage or Adam about making anything like Dungeon World shirts or anything like that? I’m not sure how that would work. Since the name is the only thing that is under copywrite then I guess you could just mention mechanics of the game or something and it would just be kind of an inside joke between you and other players that see it? My friend asked me to make a shirt, but it would say dungeon world on it. Anybody here know for sure?

What would you all say is your favorite/most useful spell in Dungeon World?

What would you all say is your favorite/most useful spell in Dungeon World? Mine is Hold Person. In D&D it was much less useful since it ended when the creature was dealt damage and as we all know, most things in D&D are HP meatwalls. In Dungeon World though, you can fictionally just kill someone who can’t defend themselves. My favorite thing my players have done is cast hold person on an enemy who threw a returning axe at them. I said the axe came back and buried itself into the guy’s skull because he couldn’t catch it on the way back. They loved it and it allowed them to take out an enemy that would have been a lot more troublesome.

Stone Guardians

When you pass through an area of the evil overlord’s keep, roll+3, minus the number of treasures you have looted from the keep so far (gold coins or other individual items count as one treasure). On a 10+ choose 2. On a 7-9 choose 1:

• The guardians turn to flesh, making them easier to harm.

• The guardians are slow, stupid or easy to predict.

• The guardians have no special abilities.

I swear I have seen a link to the new playbooks in indesign format somewhere, but I can’t seem to find them.

So I’m going to be running a Swords & Spaceships style game and I wanted to know everyone’s suggestions on classes that would be great for it. I already plan to use the core DW playbooks plus Adventures on Dungeon Planet and some of the Inverse World playbooks. Most likely Grim World as well. The idea is literally high fantasy, so all the normal races, creatures and magic will be mixed with technology and space travel. I thank you all in advance.

– Frighten nearby enemies with their mere presence!

– Take out a weak spot in a structure with a violent explosion!

– Run in and take out as many as possible… with a violent explosion!

Goblins have always been a source of amusement for other races. They have been kicked around and bullied by everyone at some point or another. But there is only so much anyone can take before they snap. Legend holds that the first goblin sapper, Snot Fizzbang, grew so sick of being kicked around by an orc taskmaster that he strapped a couple of powder kegs to himself and proceeded to boss the orcs around merely by keeping a torch on hand at all times. It’s believed that he would have became a great leader of the goblin race if not for that stray ember from his torch. At least his memory could inspire other goblins to stand up for themselves… until they explode anyways.

So I just wanted to share a mechanic my group has started using that worked very well for us and I believe could work for others who have played RPGs that use initiative. I found that Dungeon World was just a bit too chaotic for my group during combat, with everyone wanting to attack several times and some people not wanting to speak up over other players, etc etc. So, my answer to those chaotic groups who are accustomed to initiative is very simple:

Action Tokens

Before anyone starts to argue with me about the cinematic narration of Dungeon World, I know that is what is intended and I appreciate that style of play. This is just what works for my group.

With Action Tokens, I give each player the same, small item (It doesn’t matter, as long as its something they can associate with being for their action) and when combat comes along I make them spend their action token in order to do any item that isn’t Defy Danger or another simple or reactive move. Pretty much any move that deals damage or some combat effect requires the use of their token. Once all of the players have used their tokens, then they get them back to be used again. The last person who spent one has to wait for at least one person to spend their token before they can spend their token again, so they don’t get two hack and slash moves in a row or whatever.

So then we just repeat that process until combat ends. I just wanted to share our method so maybe other groups could benefit from it or alter it for their own purposes. If you want to state your thoughts about it, thats cool too, but thats not why I posted it. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for the read!
