Has anyone ever spoken with Sage or Adam about making anything like Dungeon World shirts or anything like that? I’m not sure how that would work. Since the name is the only thing that is under copywrite then I guess you could just mention mechanics of the game or something and it would just be kind of an inside joke between you and other players that see it? My friend asked me to make a shirt, but it would say dungeon world on it. Anybody here know for sure?

  1. They comment in these forums every now and then. Thought you making a shirt and accrediting them will cause you any issues. Its literally free advertisement with small amounts of profit.

  2. One shirt that might get an interesting variety of reactions: something that simply states “Powered by the Apocalypse”. Not sure if that’s under copyright.

  3. I’d love to have a Nate Marcel’s picture off of the cover or the wizard’s study as a Dungeon World t-shirt. Kyle Ferrin’s goblins, owlbear and gnolls would be nice too.

  4. For a t-shirt that is for personal use: Just one for you, not selling them or doing them up to give away.  There is no need as copy-write doesn’t come into play.  BUT if you plan on selling them or even think on marketing the design, then YES you need permission and expect to have trouble if you don’t.  Free Advertising or not.  Now, that said, I don’t thing that they would object if you did sell them, as long as you gave them a cut of the profits and got permission ahead of time to sell them.

It really sounds like you just want it for yourself. In that case, GO FOR IT.  Take pics and send it to them is the least you could do though.

  5. The licensing you’d be looking for is under trademark, which is handled differently than copyright. You wouldn’t have to go through Vincent, because he doesn’t have anything to do with DW trademarks. He might have trademarked the phrase “powered by the apocalypse”, but given his relaxed attitude toward IP, I doubt it.

Sage and Adam would definitely be the guys to talk to.
