Working on a DW hack (Advanced Funnel World?) that uses a Vancian magic system whereby Magic-Users start with random spells, and are subject to arcane mishaps a la the DCC RPG.

The spell names are generated randomly. Each time you cast a given spell, you say what you want it to do, within the scope of the spell’s name. A spell is instantaneous, touch, and single target by default, and you spend spellpower to add tags and effects.

I’m putting the finishing touches on the spell name generation tables today, and here are the first 10 I just rolled:

Kubalia’s Heart of Darkness

Dulark’s Arcane Circle

Shield of the Gruesome Horn

Magad’s Water Brain

Flooz’s Floating Guise

Eye of Floating Deceit

Tongue of Black Void

Evil Souls

Zilioz’s Ultimate Oil

Restorative Despair

I have no idea how this will all work out in play, but now I’m dying to find out!

I’m considering running a regular Monday session online, in order to playtest some Perilous Journeys stuff.

I’m considering running a regular Monday session online, in order to playtest some Perilous Journeys stuff. Would a Google Hangout be the way to go? I’ve never run a game live online, and I have close to zero XP with Hangouts. We would need some sort of communal map that everyone could draw on, but I would let players roll real dice.

It would be a weekly sandbox wilderness game, probably (unfortunately) from noon to 2:30pm EST. If you’re interested in trying something like that and it would work with your schedule, let me know and I’ll put you on the invite list.

Stabbity stab stab at dungeon creation rules. Am I crazy? Is this a viable approach?

Very rough draft of dungeon creation rules. I wasn’t planning on having this be part of the book, but the more of the other stuff I wrote, the more this seemed missing. All art placeholder, please let me know what you think.

Third draft of glossary and collaborative mapmaking rules for Perilous Journeys. Placeholder art, feedback welcome. Map template at the end is based on the one Vincent Baker uses in AW: Dark Age.

The next section of Perilous Journeys, submitted for feedback. This is mostly a slightly edited version of Jeremy Strandberg’s follower rules, which most of you have probably seen already.

Next section of Perilous Journeys: rules for followers, written by Jeremy Strandberg. Tacked on the end of this pdf for reference are the NPC generation tables, which will be included in the “Ask the Fates” portion of the book (seen in previous preview).

As usual, all art is placeholder, and feedback is welcome!
