Kaltcha Claw

A strip of oily black flesh poking from the hollow of a gleaming white claw. The sickly-sweet smell makes you feel like you’re looking at the back of your own head. It has a surprisingly nutty and satisfying flavor. The flesh itself is oily and smooth, but your teeth crunch on small flecks of a reflective red metal.

When you eat the flesh of the claw, roll 1d6. The table below describes how your body is affected by the meat until it passes from your body.

1. You vanish to the Black Gate. You are not dead, and you are invisible to death themself. Don’t push your luck.

2. Your body falls asleep, with your mind waking up in the body of the nearest Kaltcha.

3. You develop a patch of red and white fur on the bridge of your nose, and a sharp pain in your jaw.

4. Your skin takes on the oily black and red flecked appearance of the meat. You feel stretchy and lithe.

5. You really want another kaltcha claw. You’d do anything for another. Maybe you can find a way to eat the same piece again?

6. You find the meat bizarre but pleasing. You feel more distant from your friends.

I am looking for PC Bonds that relate to food in some way.

I am looking for PC Bonds that relate to food in some way. They can be anything, as long as it describes the relationship the players have with each other, and how that relates to food!

Examples:

_______ and I are trying to see who can eat more than the other. The winner gets ________

– I tried a pastry made by _______ and I won’t stop following them until they’ve taught me everything they know!

______ ate a cursed meal that was meant for me. I owe it to them to help break the curse.

___ and I grew up as hungry street urchins together. We are family, and will do everything we can to prevent the other from going hungry or homeless.

Some of my favorites:

“The Connoisseur – eats only blue foods – seeking the purest color”

“Tammy the Tea Trader

Tammy is an old and disheveled woman who wears exotic patchwork clothes and speaks with a croaking voice. She sells teas that, when consumed, will heal your wounds, change your emotional state (anger, fear, love, etc.), let you see the future, or produce a variety of other supernatural effects. Unfortunately, her stores have recently gotten mixed-up, so her buyers may not get exactly the tea they wanted…

“Magic teas for sale! Potions for every ailment!”

“Alan

Alan is a humble commoner who you previously helped and befriended. As thanks, he’s brought you a basket of apples that he picked from the tree outside his new house. Unbeknownst to him, the tree grows atop an old burial ground; whoever eats the apples is cursed and haunted by the spirits of the dead.

“”Thank you so much for helping me. Please, accept these apples as a token of my appreciation.”””

Hey all!

Hey all!

Hey all!

Curious on what “Flavor” of fantasy you generally have in your DW games. While the DW rules and playbooks lightly suggest a classic DnD / LOTR fantasy setting, I’ve seen enough from the community to know that there are many that are more interested in different settings and tropes.

Are you classic High Fantasy in your games, or something else? Comment why you prefer your choice (and if Other, what your fantasy settings look like).

An excerpt of a potential magic item from the zine:

Candied Oracle

They lost track of where and who these came from, so who can say it’s disrespectful to snack on them? These gummied remains of an oracle have a chewy and dusty texture, but taste slightly like a peach.

When you eat a candied body part, you wake up the next morning to discover that your respective body part has now been gummified. It can now sense the future, in a way that makes sense for the body part. i.e. ears can hear, eyes can see, etc. But everything they sense seems more… gummied. These senses are rarely guaranteed to be clear.

Your gummified body part can sense the future in any rolls that could apply, i.e. Discern Realities, Spout Lore, etc.

Some body parts might have more drastic consequences than others. Needless to say, it might be a bad idea to eat too many…

So, the zine is going to focus on filling DW with interesting details, one topic at a time. At the beginning of each zine, I want to include a list of general principles that will help GM’s create and utilize details more effectively. If I end up with too much, I might release them as a free zine later on!

Please review and discuss! Are these principles bad, good, too much, too few? What would you add? How could they be condensed?

I’m nearing the content finish line of Dungeon Rations: Food and Drink! Then onto the first draft and feedback.

I would like to request more help on interesting foods!

What are some interesting, weird, dangerous, helpful, or otherwise Dungeon World delicacies?

The kind of thing that is hard to find, expensive, reserved for special occasions, or an acquired taste…
