Anyone have a collection of those starters that use the Discern Realities questions as the basis?

Swords and Sorcery. Has anyone done a supplement for this genre similar to the depth of Adventures on Dungeon Planet?

The current classes, minus the magic users, could stand fine with some recoloring, I just don’t think I could do it all that well.

After disarming you, his men roughly escort you through the halls of the repurposed factory to the room where Simos is. What does he look like?

“The room is empty except for a slab of black marble. When I approach, my own reflection smiles and says he’s been waiting weeks to meet me.”

… Damn. I have so many ideas, but I’d love to hear where you would take this.

I’m currently planning session two of a game merging Fallen Empires and the Planarch Codex. The general idea is that the Fiend War rages across the planes, leaving desolate wastelands where they fight. The PCs come from a community on one of these planes that decided to escape through one of the portals the demons came from, eventually finding themselves in Dis, which shaped a section of the city to match their home stronghold.

I’m posting this looking for ideas.

While the Codex is intended for use with DW, I don’t really foresee much that wouldn’t work. In the beginning of the second session, I actually want to develop some heritage moves for the race the players come from.

Beyond that, I’m not entirely sure where they will go with things, but some of their community isn’t a big fan of the ugly foreigners…

This move is awesome.

So that I can link to it easily, here is Jason Cordova’s labyrinth custom move for Dungeon World:

When you attempt to navigate the labyrinth, describe how you do it, and then roll +STAT. *On a 12+, hold 2 *On a 10+, hold 1. *On a 7-9, hold 1, but you also encounter a guardian. *On a miss, you encounter a guardian. *On a 1-3, also lose all hold.

If multiple party members navigate in turn, their hold is pooled together for the entire party. To find one of the labyrinth’s treasures, spend 1 hold and describe the room it is found in. You may spend 3 hold at any time to find the entrance to the heart of the labyrinth.

Untested Idea for Bonds as “Shared Stories”

Untested Idea for Bonds as “Shared Stories”

I have a lot of drop-ins and irregulars in my DW game which makes Bonds kind of unworkable. My idea to replace them is as follows:

A Bond is a relationship with another character based on a memorable event you both shared in play. When a new memorable event happens, you can replace it and mark experience. You can also add new ones at that time. All playbooks can have 3 Bonds, except the Bard who can have 5.

During character creation, these can be defined similarly to the Fate Phase Trio – go around the table and discuss one event you shared with someone else. When you introduce a new character, an existing character can volunteer to have a Bond with them.

This isn’t too much of a change in normal Bonds, it just recontextualizes them a bit to be more based on things that happen in play and are less about relationships.

Those of you who regularly improvise dungeon delves, burglaries of palaces, city chases, or any sort of similar thing: what tricks do you use to make the whole thing coherent? How do you make sure you account for those extra doors, alleyways, and those sorts of logistical things matching up when everything is explored?

I seem to paint myself into corners when I have, say, caves open in three directions and don’t account for enough space for each to expand upon exploration. I don’t know if the players notice, but it bugs me.

Question on how you would have handled something:

I had a door in a dungeon with a series of gemstones next to it like a keypad. One of the characters decided to try to pry one out of the wall to take it, and was thrown backwards, knife left stuck partially behind the stone.

The cleric decides to smack the knife with his shovel (his holy symbol) to knock it free. I can’t decide if I want this to rip the gem from the wall or let the knife go free, so I think a Defy Danger roll would work well, but I can’t figure out an attribute to roll. In the end, I had him roll + nothing (suggesting it was a “luck” roll).

What would you have done?
