Today, Mark Daniels and I are releasing our Take on the Lower Depths, a supplement that explores some of the untouched lower depths of Dungeon World.

Unlike previous endeavors, where I dutifully combed the dark recesses of the public domain artwork, Mark illustrated some truly spectacular creatures.

This project began as my attempt to convert Wolfgang Bauer’s Dungeon Magazine adventure “Kingdom of Ghouls.” It quickly became obvious, based on that adventure, that I’d need to create a whole lot more. It has moved beyond that point, but its roots are still firmly entrenched in the bones of that spectacular adventure.

Special thanks to +Josh Mannon , +Adam Koebel, and +Colter Hanna for you assistance. I will be petitioning the Dungeon World Steering Committee to add face as a range tag.

I’ve made a new version of Dungeon World monster cards. Just print it double-side and cut.

I think the moves make for some interesting things in the fiction.

In our second session, the characters witnessed the slave Littlings turn upon the city. By themselves, not terribly dangerous, but when its 30,000 critters, it gets obnoxious.

Fictionally, most of the moves were about stealing gear, gnawing off things.

The littlings were inspired by the Watchmaker moties of “A Mote in God’s Eye”

I searched the Codex first and was surprised no one had yet made a water weird.

Question: given that this apparently was an original creation of Gary Gygax for the AD&D Monster Manual, should I have no licensing terms on it at all? It’s not in the Product Identity list for the d20 SRD v3.5, although it also doesn’t seem to be in the monster sections.
