The Blood Bow

The Blood Bow

The Blood Bow

This bow was originally crafted for an ancient, unknown vampire lord, whose unlife was cut short by a travelling band of adventurers. While the bow does not use ammunition, it draws on the blood of its bearer to create it’s arrows.

near, far, +2 damage, weight 1

Whenever you volley with this bow, take 1 damage, ignoring armor. You can not spend ammo on a 7-9 result, but you may choose to take +1d4 additional damage, ignoring armor.

Bracers of the Bound

This set of gold bracers and necklace are adorned with finely cut obsidian. It appears as though a small flame is held within the obsidian. Or maybe the life fire of its previous owner.

When you command someone of a lower station, Roll+CHA. 10+, it will heed your command without question and to the best of its ability. 7-9, that and the GM will make you an offer. If you accept, increment a 5 segment countdown. If you decline, for a few moments your mind is preoccupied with visions of fire and thralldom. The GM will tell you more.

5 Segment Countdown: I’m cribbing this from the Planarch Codex and Apocalypse World. The idea being that there is clearly a price that comes with using this, and something is going to go horribly wrong when that timer rolls over to 5.

Also, I like the fictional trigger – as it makes even the simplest interaction with a serving maid a potentially damning experience.

Well, I’ve done it, I went through the posts and cleaned things up a bit.

Well, I’ve done it, I went through the posts and cleaned things up a bit.  Thanks to everybody’s help, we now have a list of 120 Minor Magical Trinkets to make your dungeon world a more interesting place.  I put them in 6 columns with 20 items in each column.  I tried to sort them the best I could into categories of equal length.  If you have any questions or comments please let me know, and I can make some adjustments if needed.

Enjoy.

SCEPTER OF THE APOCALYPSE DRAGON

SCEPTER OF THE APOCALYPSE DRAGON

SCEPTER OF THE APOCALYPSE DRAGON

When you wield the Scepter of the Apocalypse Dragon to set a disaster in motion, roll +cha. On a 10+, it happens as you desire it. On a 7-9, it gets out of hand, dealing more damage than you intended. On a miss, in addition to whatever move the GM makes, mark a box on a countdown called “The Awakening”.

ORB OF THE APOCALYPSE DRAGON

When you wield the Orb of the Apocalypse Dragon, you may breathe forth the elements: when you do so roll +str. On a 10+, deal your class damage to any number of targets you can see, and inflict such effects are as appropriate for being engulfed in flame or ice or whatnot. On a 7-9, you will deal your class damage to some additional targets of the GM’s choice, possibly including yourself. On a miss, in addition to whatever move the GM makes, mark a box on a countdown called “The Awakening”.

CROWN OF THE APOCALYPSE DRAGON

When you spend an hour or two meditating while wearing the Crown of the Apocalypse Dragon, lose any hold you had from it and roll +int. On a 10+, hold 3, on a 7-9, hold 1. On a miss, in addition to whatever move the GM makes, mark a box on a countdown called “The Awakening”. You may spend this hold to act with perfect foresight: describe how you do so and take +2 to any roll.

When any of these artifacts’ countdowns reach six boxes marked, their power is depleted, and the Apocalypse Dragon stirs in its slumber: all the world feels it. When all of the artifacts have done so, the Apocalypse Dragon awakens. Nice job, hero.

Not really a Magic Item but maybe a Wondrous or advanced mechanical

(based on Randus Duthain, played by Brian Bergdall on the Critical Hit Podcast)

Exilarchy of Cogs Battlefist

A EoC Battlefist is a mechanical prosthetic made by the sentient Construct Race of the Cogs (or by some genius Artificer studiyng their technology). Actually supposed to be used as a swappable weapon for the Cogs warrior it can be reconfigured to connect to a living humanoid. Due to the intelligent design of the Exilarchy the Battlefist reconfigures itself to the needs of the user and can become much more then just a strong arm.

A EoC Battlefist has 2 Weight and is Clumsy

When you connect a EoC Battlefist to your living body, roll + CON as it analyses your bodily health and capabilities.

On a 10+ choose 2, on a 7-9 choose 1

* The EoC Battlefist looses the Clumsy Tag

* It configures a stronger outercasting, functioning like a shield. Take +1 armor

* If your Class Damage is lower then 1d8 upgrade it 1 step

* It has room to imbed a small crossbow (1 weight, near, can only store 1 ammo)

* It reconfigures the fingers to include different lockpicks, looking glasses and other thiefy tools

Medal of the Legion

A brass disc smaller than a man’s palm, inscribed with the regalia of a renowned military unit disbanded after the recent war. There are anywhere from dozens to hundreds of the medals in existence, and those holding them are bound as brothers-in-arms, and compelled to answer the call.

When you hold the medal and request aid, roll. If you are a veteran of any military service, take +1. If you are a veteran of the Legion, take +3:

On a 10+, a veteran of the Legion is within a day’s travel of your location, and is willing and able to help you.

On a 7-9, aid is coming, but there is a complication. The GM chooses one:

– They are more than a day, but less than a week away.

– They have some trouble of their own that they need help getting out of.

– They have inherited or otherwise honorably acquired the medal, but are not a former Legionnaire. While they are willing to help, they may not be as useful.

On a 6-, someone unfortunate has taken possession of the nearest medal. You’ll find out when they find you.

(The curious reader will wonder what happens if the PC is the nearest medal-holder to someone else calling for aid. This is a fascinating question.)

I wrote up a Swashbuckler class some time ago, and maybe posted it to the forum, but I was re-reading it and I still really love this piece of equipment!

(Not actually a magic item, but there’s no general “equipment” section.)

Bottle of cheap wine (+1-forward to parley when shared / +1-forward to hack and slash when downed quickly / 1-piercing, 3-uses, hand when empty / 2 weight)

Another attempt at something interesting.

Filgarde’s Shrunken head

You grew up hearing Filgarde Davenport stories; heck, everyone did. He was an explorer famous for undertaking perilous journeys and usually losing a bit of himself along the way. No, seriously – an actual bit of himself. Filgarde’s left hand was taken by a group of cannibal pirates in the South Sea. He lost several toes to a particularly large vulture while scaling the Dragon’s Teeth. Eventually, poor Filgarde got his head lopped off and shrunken by some witchdoctor in The Reaches. Yep, that head you’re holding. Earned him the nickname ‘Deadenport,’ but clearly hasn’t stopped him from traveling. Or talking, for that matter.

When you call Filgarde’s attention to an exotic location or a dangerous creature, he’ll remind you of one of his many famous expeditions involving it. Take +1 forward when you spout lore about that creature or location.

If you remember the story of that expedition, and tell everyone about it, Filgarde will also remember the location of something useful or valuable he left behind [like the gem in that thing’s belly, or the key to that locked door.]
