I had an idea over the weekend on how to deal with magic weapons in my current campaign.  I was thinking on treating them a lot like the Druid’s shapre change in that when the item is created a roll is made to determine how magical it is.  If a 10+ is rolled the weapon would get 3 holds per session, 7-9 2 holds and 6- it is just a mundane weapon.  The player can then use these holds to add +1 forward to hit, or maybe +2 damage or whatever would be fictionally accurate for that particular weapon.  The bonus would be determined before the weapon was created and can’t change from session to session.

What do you think?

What software do I need to edit the class templates that are available from the dungeon world homepage?

I remember it starts with an “I” but i’m drawing a blank.

Not a questions but a comment.  I am shocked how the roll a -6 and gain XP rubs people the wrong way.  Three out of the five players seem to really dislike it…and all due to the fact that one player failed more and has two more XP than the rest.  In our group specifically I think it stems from the fact that we had always played Pathfinder and we all leveled at the same time when the GM said we leveled.

Second game GMing DW and some minor issues came up.

Second game GMing DW and some minor issues came up.  I have run into issues where people are spouting lore etc in non-combat situations and rolling -6.  I was doing some bad things in the background, but maybe not enough in game to make people realize that there are consequences to their actions even out of combat.  The perception is that some players are getting free XP for well…free.

What are some good ways that I can better show the failure of things like spout lore or discern realities in say an Inn or outside of battle? Am I triggering the moves too much? For instance one player asked if his young paladin has been around enough to know if he should tip a waitress.  I had him spout lore to find out.  Should I just have said you tell me?

In conclusion…what are some good non combat bad things on a -6 for spout lore etc and should I not call for moves as often as I think I should?

Thanks for any help.

Well, I’ve done it, I went through the posts and cleaned things up a bit.  Thanks to everybody’s help, we now have a list of 120 Minor Magical Trinkets to make your dungeon world a more interesting place.  I put them in 6 columns with 20 items in each column.  I tried to sort them the best I could into categories of equal length.  If you have any questions or comments please let me know, and I can make some adjustments if needed.

Enjoy.

I need some ideas.  For some reason when I roll for treasures 9 out of 10 times I roll a 5 “some minor magical trinket” I have a very hard time coming up with anything worth using.  What are some examples of a minor magical trinket?

Thanks for  your help.

Well, I GM’d my first DW game/campaign with grownups last night, actually it was the first time I have GM’d any game for adults (my usual group that I GM for consists of my 3 kids age 10, 8, 6) and it went GREAT.  They are all hardcore pathfinder tactical “roll” players and thanks to this great system everybody has an interesting back story (which has never happened in our group before) they actually played how their characters would play, and a good time was had by all.

I was surprised by how easy it was to actually GM this game.  I did very little prep other than create a dungeon, put a book at the bottom of it and ask them questions. And yet I came away with 2 great Fronts, both a minor and a major campaign front, and lots of ideas for the next game.

The only questions that came up where the following two:

1. On the Character sheet sometimes it will say choose your defenses: and there are two defenses hide armor and a wooden shield.  How many can they choose?  I thought 1 and said that is what we would do, but it was met with lots of angst.

2. Getting XP from your alignment.  The Bard has Perform your art to aid someone else.  Does this mean when you do the move aid or when you heal somebody?  And do you gain XP each time you do this, or if you do it during the session you gain XP?

Thanks for any help there.

And thanks for the great game system.

I’m starting my first Dungeon Worlds campaign with people other than my kids.  I really really love the life path systems in both Burning Wheel and Artesia.  So i’m planning on asking some lifepath questions during character creation.  Does anybody have some good lifepath question ideas?  I was planning on asking the standard questions:

Where did you grow up?

Are your parents still alive?

If not, how did they die?

What did you spend your childhood doing?

What was your first job after leaving home?

Can you think of any others that I should ask? Do you ask each of these questions to each of the players, or do you just do a round robin thing and ask them each one question.

Thanks for any help.
