The Illuminating Eye (1 weight)

A crystal sphere that contains a mystical eye. When commanded to open by its owner the sphere acts like a Light spell the illumination but also reveals secret doors, traps, invisible creatures or objects and illusions.

The Devouring Key (0 weight)

This key will open any lock or door (magic or not) if the key’s owner rolls 10+. A 7-9 and the key requires a food ration to open the door. On a fail the key will demand an expensive and rare fruit or vegetable to open the lock. If the owner agrees the key will open the lock but will not function again until it receives the promised gourmet item.

Neshog’s Coin

Neshog’s Coin

Neshog’s Coin

Neshog, The Goblin Trickster, was said to have a coin that obeyed his commands, and would display heads or tails at his whim. Whoever holds this coin may flip it and cover it, and whichever side you wish to appear does.

When you use Neshog’s Coin to win something, Roll CHA+.

On a 10+, the loser believes he lost fair and square.

On 7-9, choose one:

You take -1 ongoing against the loser in future parleys.

You draw unwanted attention to yourself. The GM will tell you how.

The coin loses its enchantment until the following dawn.

Diadem of Clear-Mindedness

Diadem of Clear-Mindedness

Diadem of Clear-Mindedness

A shining band of silver whorls, studded with commonplace jewels. In the center of this band is a single, polished purple stone; gaps along the length of the diadem suggest additional stones were once affixed.

The Diadem of Clear-Mindedness clears away your errant thoughts and steadies the mind — giving you focus for the task at hand. When you Prepare Spells, treat your Level as 1 higher when calculating how many Spells you can prepare.

Rumors suggest the diadem was fractured some time ago and the magic stones that power it were scattered, collected by malicious spellcasters looking to increase their potential. If these rumors are true, it is likely that each stone restored to its setting on the diadem would act as an additional +1 to the wearer’s effective spell-caster level when Preparing.

“When you blow a long, loud, sonorous note in this horn, you get everyone’s attention for a great distance, good or evil. On a 10+ a drowned man or beast will arise and fight for you till cut down. 7 same but it’s either weak or harms you and enemies. 6- and a drowned creature or spirit rises to stop your aggravating din.

Welcome to other ideas or thoughts.

Ring of the Goblin Champion

Ring of the Goblin Champion

Ring of the Goblin Champion

“You better mind yer parunts, an’ yer teachurs fond an’ dear,

An’ churish them ‘at loves you, an’ dry the orphant’s tear,

An’ he’p the pore an’ needy ones ‘at clusters all about,

Er the Gobble-uns ‘ll git you

Ef you

Don’t

Watch

Out!”

“Little Orhant Annie”, James Whitcomb Riley

This silver band bordered in gold is engraved with animal knotwork. When you wear the ring, it gives you the following moves.

When you greet a band of goblins with open palms, they see you as a fellow goblin, regardless of your actual appearance. Roll CHA+. On a 10+, You are treated as an ally and choose one.

-Your friends are also treated as allies.

-One goblin in the band will offer his services as a hireling.

-The band tells you the location of a guarded or trapped treasure

On a 7-9, you are treated as an ally. On a miss, you are perceived as a goblin but treated with suspicion.

When you parley with goblins, you may claim to be a champion of Goblinkind as leverage. This does not change the likelihood of success or the consequences of the roll.

Magical Items Revised

I think a lot of what makes Dungeon World items really work is a history and detailed description.

Sword of Striking (“Odin’s Blade”, “the Wedsenday Sword”)

Owner may roll twice on “Hack and Slash” rolls when using this sword and take the higher roll. No bonus on damage, but will hit Incorporeal monsters.

History: A viking long sword inscribed with runes and images of Odin’s ravens, this blade will vibrate with eagerness in its sheath when battle approaches; the souls of its previous owners can be heard by the owner calling out for new recruits for Valhalla. It can never be cleaned and always appears freshly bloody but the owner will report an odd feeling of peace in battle.

The Sword of Tyche (“Luck’s blade”, “Tyche’s Gladius” or “The Bitch Goddess’ Letter Opener”)

Owner may roll twice on “Hack and Slash” rolls when using this sword, but must take the second roll. No bonus on damage, but will hit Incorporeal monsters.

History: A Roman Gladius enshrined with prayers to “fickle Tyche” and an image of the naked goddess inscribed on the blade. This weapon is always sharp and immaculate and never requires cleaning. When in battle an owner of this sword will always be found laughing and smiling whatever the odds or the owner’s previous mood.

Pickman’s Ring

Owner is cursed and may not remove ring once it is placed on his or her hand.. Owner may converse and parlay with all forms of ghouls who will not attack and offer owner and his or her party aid and advice. If owner fails Last Breath roll his or her corpse will arise as an undead monster (GM’s Choice, usually powerful ghoul) that will attempt to track down and consume the party. Owner is immune to any ghoul special attacks or fear spells. The owner will start eating insects and need no other form of nutrition as long as these are present when camp is made.

History: First owner was Upton Pickman; famous Arkham artist who was once human.

Soul Reaper Robe

Soul Reaper Robe

Soul Reaper Robe

This black and purple velvet robe is adorned with delicately stitched necromantic symbols. The inner lining is inscribed with the words, “to my dearest pupil.” While wearing the robe, you can make a necrotic touch attack (range Hand) against a creature with a soul. If your attack kills the creature, the robe gains +1 Soul. The next time you roll Last Breath, roll +Soul instead of the flat 2d6. Additionally, all the souls in the robe are released into what lies beyond the Black Gate, and it reverts back to 0 Soul. 1 Weight

I would like some assistance with a magic item.

I would like some assistance with a magic item.

I would like some assistance with a magic item.

My players have just fought a cult of the god of magic and secrets. they are a very unkind group (sacrificing passerby’s, trying to set the forest aflame because their enemies were hiding there), but they also are supposed to be slightly sympathetic, the paladin’s organization hunts them, and is trying to eradicate their faith (Their exact words, upon sighting the paladin, were “Kill the oppressor!”)

So, how could I make a magic item to reflect that?
