Anyone have a collection of those starters that use the Discern Realities questions as the basis? I’ve seen a few pass by here and never saved them.

Hey everyone.

Hey everyone.

Hey everyone. I have been reading through Dungeon world pretty much any spare moment. I currently don’t have any circles in P&P Rpging nor have I ever played one. I’ve played heaps of dungeon crawls and other Rpg games like Pathfinder adventure card game but not a true TTRPG. Where should I start? The guys I’d be playing with would all be new too. Do I need previous Rpg experience? If I’m gming do I need previous xp for that too? I really like the sounds of this game and have watched about 10 of your playthroigjs Adam. I just don’t know how to start. I guess I have q fear that if I fail, the crew around will have that bad taste and not want to play again thinking it’s a dumb game… Also where can I get a hard copy of the book in Australia? I’ve bought the PDF, but printing it is all jumbled. Burning wheel is like $40 shipping ontop of the book cost. That’s double the cost of the book. Any help would be great… Thanks guys.

Just ran my first DW game today for my 13yo and his little friends.

Just ran my first DW game today for my 13yo and his little friends. I’m used to d&d so there was a lot of hack and slash, and 7-9. I tried not to just respond with damage and it went well. I’m not used to the GM moves, and diner stare at them, but feel I used them when appropriate.

How do I get added to the mailing list or the Kickstart or whatever you guys got going!

How do I get added to the mailing list or the Kickstart or whatever you guys got going! I really like many aspects of this playlets, with the possible exception of the aid and interfere still being linked to Bonds, which I like to use as just roleplaying and XP rewards only.

We are proud to announce the first ever public playtest of Worlds of Adventure!

What is this?

Worlds of Adventure is an ongoing project to present a simplified, tightened ruleset for Dungeon World that builds on the strengths and themes of the original game, while incorporating newer ideas and designs made popular since the game’s original release. In Worlds of Adventure, we try to enhance those rules that facilitate roleplay, simplicity, and flexibility, while keeping true to Dungeon World’s roots. The ruleset for Worlds of Adventure is meant to both supercede and take precedence over those of Dungeon World.

You can read a summary of these changes in the Introduction section of the document.

Please remember that this is just an early playtest; many of these rules are expected to change and adjust based on community feedback.

Thanks, and please send us your comments & suggestions!

What did you learn at Gauntlet con?

What did you learn at Gauntlet con?

I learned:

1) I need to work on speaking with an active voice in games. Not voice acting per se, rather, speaking in first person. Not ‘I think Jeff would say this:’

2) I need to follow the start up rules for first session as written in the DW rule book. I played in a pick up game and the GM showed me how great session one/zero can be. I was holding on to old traditions.

3) The internet can be a healthy and supportive place. There is so much negativity to get trapped into, so it’s a refreshing to see hundreds of fellow gamers loving one another. NOT pwning n00bz L8 blah blah blarf.

4) ‘story games’ are amazing when you can play them with dedicated and mature players.

Hi all.

Hi all.

Hi all. I started recruiting yesterday for an online play-by-post Dungeon World campaign. It’s going to be hosted on Paizo.com, which is the website for Paizo, the parent company of Pathfinder; but they don’t mind letting Dungeon World players use their forums too. I like their forum system because it has a nice die roller and fantasy avatars in their database, and it’s all free to make an account for and use. Players will be posting an update once or twice a day and the campaign goes on like that.

Anyway, the party will be comprised of races from the Number Appearing Dungeon World supplement, which I provide a link for in my recruitment post. This means the party will be made up of monstrous races such as orcs, minotaurs, and kobolds. The campaign is a revenge story against a high-level adventuring party that destroyed your tribe and took your loot.

I have a few people that have expressed interest but not a full party yet. If you’re interested, check out my recruitment post!

Thanks,

Matt

I was thinking about the math behind the 2d6 result ranges for DW.

I was thinking about the math behind the 2d6 result ranges for DW.

I was thinking about the math behind the 2d6 result ranges for DW. I’ve always thought it was really elegant but didn’t know why I thought that. So the nerd in me took over and I ran the % chances for the result ranges for 2d6 – 1 to 2d6 + 3.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QXytn5YlHfrFNgNM-_QaRRfshOr4sknn_Rx1pGzAOSo/edit?usp=sharing

It’s actually a lot more interesting than I realized. I highlighted a couple of cool points:

In yellow: You have the exact same chance of rolling a 7-9 when rolling 2d6 + nothing and you do when rolling 2d6 + 2, and it’s fairly high at almost 42%.

In green: You have the exact same chance of rolling a miss as you have of rolling a 10+ when rolling 2d6 + 1. This one interests me a lot because the results are almost 25/50/25%. As an alternate to rolling 2d6 for a project I’m working on, Tom Walker (UK) (it won’t let me tag him) suggested flipping 2 coins to get three results (HH, HT [or TH, obviously], TT) which are exactly 25/50/25% chances. It’s just interesting to me to see that the 2 coins method would most closely match a 2d6 + 1 result (because… it’s cool LOL).

In red: You still have a 16.67% chance (craps!) of rolling a miss when rolling 2d6 + 2.

It’s just something interesting (at least to me) to keep in mind.

When do the players consume rations?
