Soulbox: http://moves.vindexus.net/move/soulbox

by Colin “Vindexus” Kierans: http://vindexus.net

This foe has placed their soul into a magical item, protecting them from Death. The only way to kill them completely is to break the item and destroy the soul within. When you destroy the soul container to try to kill the soul inside this foe is killed outright but you are caught in the vengeful backlash of Death itself, roll+CON. On a 10+ you take 1 forward to Last Breath. On a 7-9 you take -1 ongoing to Last Breath until you can break this curse. On a 6 you roll Last Breath immediately.

Spout Lore Actual Play Podcast: https://spoutlore.com/

This podcast has been going since October of last year but I’ve only recently started listening. Here’s their description: “A series of comedy bits, loosely connected by dice rolls. Join a well-meaning barbarian, a mysterious druid, and an orphaned halfling child as they try to figure out the world they’re in.”

by hobcastofficial: https://www.reddit.com/user/hobcastofficial

Each deity has a description, some tags, and a quest. They each have their own image and were printed off into a booklet for hobcastofficial’s campaign. I love handouts.

So I’ve decided to hack Dungeon World into something my niece can handle. She’s 3, going on 4 & apparently she can do some very basic math so I’m boiling everything down to a single d6 roll. 1-2=Fail, 3-4=Partial Success, 5-6+=Success.

I’ve seen other games out there like Hero Kids but I really want to have the open-ended options for non-violent combat that come with a narrative first game like Dungeon World.

I’ve reduced the number of stats (Strong, Nimble, Tough, Smart & Charm) & classes basically have 2 strengths & a weakness (+/-1 to the d6). Tough is essentially HP so I might even drop that & have Strong cover those rolls. Tough would basically be a passive stat that reflects HP.

I’m kinda having trouble with damage & HP though. Damage would be a d6 +/-2 for strength or weakness. I was thinking base 15HP, +/-3 depending on whether it’s a strength of weakness but I want to simplify it further, like to 6 blocks max. It could work more like Blades in the Dark, Shadowrun or other systems where players just take levels of harm.

I might put my character sheets up here after I’ve gone through a play test but does anyone have any advice? I’ve read the general advice like keep sessions short, offer options etc. but I’m looking for anything to really help with keeping these rules simple enough for a girl who’s still more than a year away from starting school. And of course, still fun for any adults who want to play along.

The newest episode of Discern Realities is here! This is the second in our Dungeon World Basics series. For this one, we’re covering combat in DW, which can be one of the most intimidating aspects of the game if you’re coming from something more traditional, like D&D. Our aim here is to de-mystify combat in DW and provide some best practices for running one.

Enjoy!

I’ve never GMed Dungeon World before and have only played a few *World games. I’m fairly confident about most of the concepts that make them different, but I’m still nervous about taking the plunge.

That’s mainly because I’m likely to get flustered trying to remember and seamlessly integrating the moves and agendas during the game.

Is there any advice for a first-time DW GM? Maybe focusing on only a few of the most essential moves?

When a character spend a use of an adventuring gear, do you have them write the produced item on their character sheet (if the item isn’t “used up”)?

For example, if they produce a lantern, a rope, a hammer, other permanent item, they fictionnaly should still have it later, right?

Hi all

Hi all

Hi all,

A few friends and I have been playing PbtA games at our friendly local gaming store, the Brooklyn Strategist in Carroll Gardens, NYC, for a few months now. It’s usually 3-4 of us. We were wondering if there would be interest in a twice-monthly meetup for more people.

We’ve played DW, AW, and we’re looking to try out Freebooters on the Frontier. We usually play the first and third Thursdays of the month.

I’m just wondering how many NYC folks would be interested in playing in a regular game.
