Duet

When you join in a co-operative performance with another artist Roll +CHA.

On a 10+ The effect you are working towards is doubled.

On a 7-9+ The effect is doubled but only one of you (GM Choice) gets the fame/credit.

Dueling Banjos

When you compete with another performer in a battle of skill Roll+CHA

On a 10+ You are clearly the superior! Huzzah!

On a 7-9+ Your opponent or one of their fans holds a grudge.

When you smash a chair over someone’s head Roll+STR

On a 10+ You deal damage and they are knocked out.

On a 7-9 You deal damage and they are knocked down.

When you withstand a chair smashed over your head Roll+ CON

On a 10+ The whole room stops as you impressively shrug off the blow, what do you do?

On a 7-9 You are still standing but a bit woozy. You will deal w2d damage until you can catch your breath for a minute.

I’m in the process of revisiting my Stress rules to create a more grim or dark fantasy feel. One thing I had in mind to represent a growing mental imbalance was to forcibly change the character’s alignment move. The new move should be something that causes mischief or inter-party conflict without being overly disruptive. Here’s a few I had in mind to start with, please help me think of move!

Tippler

Get drunk at an inconvenient time, or cause trouble from your drinking.

Gambler

Take a serious risk to acquire something valuable.

Compulsive

Investigate something interesting while ignoring the obvious risks.

Paranoid

Refuse help from, or refuse to help an ally when you could have.

I’ve running a one-shot in a few weeks for a friend’s birthday. While I’ve run a bunch of DW it will be the player’s first experience with the system and I wanted to make it special. I’ve asked the birthday boy what kind of themes he’s want to focus on and I was given “Arabian Nights” and “Faustian Deals.”  I was hoping to access the brain trust here and see if we can come up with some awesome custom moves for such a setting. Please, make my mind explode with your great ideas!

Anyone have any neat tricks for making social conflict more interesting in DW?

While physical conflict offers a variety of moves and a pacing mechanism (HP) for the thing, social conflict only has Parley as whole conflict resolution. I’d like to spice this up a hair, to allow more options for interrogations and negotiations

When you take a few minutes to test uncertain ice, Roll + WIS.  On a hit the GM will tell you whether it can be crossed safely, and if not, what the threat is.  On a 7-9 choose one :

* It takes significantly longer to test than you expected.

* You misjudge the ice.  If you act on your poor evaluation and it places the party and/or yourself in danger, take XP.

On a miss the GM will make a Hard Move.  You won’t like it.

When you cross untested ice, Roll + DEX.  On a 10+, you cross safely.  On a 7-9, you cross, but the GM will choose one :

* The ice cracks and groans under you.  Any other attempts to cross are made at -1 (ongoing, cumulative)

* A weak patch threatens to open beneath you – ditch 2 weight or risk breaking through.

* There’s something unexpected and dangerous on the far shore.

On a miss the GM will make a Hard Move.  You won’t like it.

Health Potions are serious business in the game I’m running. I want them to be alchemical creation that is potentially addictive. Why? Health Potions with a downside are fun. I also like the idea of addicts taking them when they don’t need to just to feel “alive.”

I want a custom move based around the addiction part though and I’m drawing a blank. Anyone use addiction of any kind in their game?

Ok, I’ve played around with XP as a resource before, but tonight I’m going for a new one entirely.

Ok, I’ve played around with XP as a resource before, but tonight I’m going for a new one entirely. Emboldened by another game powered by the apoc (Blades in the Dark), I’m using XP as a resource that lets you have a flashback!

When an Adventure is underway, and you hit a trigger that invokes a Flashback for a move in the past which impacts your current situation… Spend an XP and Role play it out.

Currently making a hack to play Fallout using Dungeon World rules and I was wondering if there are any custom moves out there that address drugs and addiction? So far what I have in mind is to have players roll whenever they consume an addictive chem, 10+ the player is good, 9-7 the player is good but may suffer a temporal backlash , and on a miss it becomes addicted. I haven’t given much thought about it just yet but id liek to hear what you guys migh have to say about handling drugs and addictions.
