DRAFT Compendium Class move for Druid

DRAFT Compendium Class move for Druid

DRAFT Compendium Class move for Druid

In her previous session, our Druid used an artifact of Death to bring back someone who died wrongfully. I’m working on a compendium class based on that, but I’d love some feedback.

The artifact move was created by Asbjørn H Flø. After someone commented that the effect was similar to the Fighter’s move Through Death’s Eyes, I thought it would be interesting to riff on the same theme.

When you use Death’s Abacus to balance the symmetry of life and death, you can choose this move instead of a move from your class the next time you gain a level.

☐ Threads of Fate

When you pause in a situation of deadly peril, name a person nearby whose death you foresee, and roll+WIS. ✴On a 10+, you gain 3 hold. ✴On a 7–9, you gain 1 hold. You may spend hold 1 for 1:

– To redirect any harm toward the person you named, by fate or misfortune; or

– To redirect any harm away from the person you named towards yourself.

If the person dies, gain 1 balance. If the person lives, mark XP.

The reference to “balance” is an allusion to the Druid’s class move Balance, which allows the Druid to gain hold to spend on healing. I thought I might make some other moves in the compendium class that use “balance” as well.

Through Death’s Eyes tells the player that “the GM will make your vision come true, if it’s even remotely possible”. This version gives the character XP instead, so that there is a consolation if they got it wrong.

I’m not sure if the move is quite ready yet. Let me know what you think!

Hey folks

Hey folks

Hey folks

Frustrated by the lack of a clean template for building my Comepndium Classes, I went and created one from scratch.

Any thoughts or suggested improvements? I’d like this to be perfect, as I’ll be releasing said CC’s on DriveThruRPG, although they will be avaliable on reddit in txt form.

It goes without saying that this template is also made for any other CC makers out there.

Cheers

Need Ideas*

Hello,

I play the “Plague of Storms” Campaign[1], and have a player that 6- on examining the Temple/Altar aof Drontok the Thunderous, a Impulsiv Storm god.

I like the idea to make him a prophet of this god. (those who know the campaign, know what this means. 🙂

This is what is known about Drontok:

DRONTOK THE THUNDEROUS

He is the lord of thunder and physical exertion, the berserker who wades into battle with a song on his lips, the involuntary shout of an athlete who pushes themselves to their limit, the storm that throws down trees and capsizes ships. Singing and wrestling are sacred to him, and his holy word is engraved on huge tablets of stone that the uninitiated struggle to lift.

Domain: Bloody Conquest

Precepts: Drontok favours those who prove themselves strong. (Add Petition: Personal Victory)

Boons Granted: Drontok will grant his priests visions of treasures which they will have to

overcome physical challenges to claim, a brief burst of supernatural strength when they need it most, or will occasionally send gryphons to aid them in battle or travel.

When you travel on or by the Silver Ocean, you can always catch enough fish to eat – you don’t need to consume any rations when you make camp or undertake a perilous journey.

When you crack the lock on the Black Gates with the holiest relic of the Crucianite faith, the next time you gain a level you can choose this move instead of a move from your class:

Acclaim of the Departed

Echoes of the Black Gate’s breaking shook the worlds, and you are marked by the event. Describe the scar, brand, or sigil and choose where it is on your body. Take +1 ongoing to Parley with any shade who can see this sigil.

When you display your mark in a place where specters congregate you can make the Recruit move to call upon the dead as hirelings. They may require one or more of the following as their cost, instead of a standard hireling cost:

– Living blood or flesh.

– Spreading rampant fear.

– Fulfil their steading’s oath.

And here’s the Thrall, a “compendium” (insert) class for #Stonetop, which is one of the ways you can escape death’s door when your time is up (other way: become a ghost or a revenant).

I’m pretty pleased with the Impulse/Favor mechanic… I think it could work pretty well for a D&D-4/5e style warlock, one who’s patron really has their hooks into the PC.

Anyhow… feedback and questions appreciated!

The Thrall

In #Stonetop, we use Death’s Door instead of Last Breath. And here’s what happens on a 6-:

On a 6-, your time has come. Choose 1:

• Step willingly through the Black Gates

• Refuse to go; gain the Revenant or Ghost insert (your choice)

• Call on one of the Things Below by name and beseech it to intercede; gain the Thrall insert

The Ghost and Revenant have been done for a long time, but I’ve been putting off the Thrall for a few reasons. I wasn’t quite sure where on the “dead man walking” vs. “sorcerer” spectrum I wanted to go. I wanted the specific Thing Below that you made a deal with to be important, but didn’t want to give up on their ambiguous, mysterious nature. A fair number of the Things Below are associated with Major Arcana, and didn’t want to crowd those out (either their moves or their consequences). And, of course, I wanted it to all fit onto one 1/2 sheet, front & back.

I’m basically using my rules for long-term enchantment & mind control for this (from here https://goo.gl/ZTZ4e4), but with Favor instead XP. The GM picks the Impulse and the first Mark, allowing them to set the initial tone for this specific Thing Below.

As you continue as a Thrall, you both gain new Marks and lose access to future marks, sort of burning the candle at both ends. When you run out, you’re done. You’re no longer a PC; you’re a monster now.

Anyhow… I’m honestly not sure if anyone would every actually choose this insert. I’m almost positive that none of the players in my long-running game would (well… maybe one of them). But that’s okay: I’m pretty sure that the mere _existence of this insert adds texture to the game, establishing part of the mythology in a way that describing sorcery just couldn’t quite do.

As always, feedback and questions are welcome and appreciated!

Back with my ‘Time Mage’ idea, looking for feedback.

Back with my ‘Time Mage’ idea, looking for feedback.

Back with my ‘Time Mage’ idea, looking for feedback. Thanks to class warfare and other hacks online and my own ideas as well the feedback I got last time I posted here, I’ve come up with this so far. Also note that in the world I’m setting up for some friends this class would be a noble.

Move ideas.

1. On Borrowed Time

⦁ You have visited The Black Gate. You’ve returned, the reason(s) known only to you. You did not however come back empty handed. In your possession is what appears to be a simple pocket watch…you know it is much more than that. When you have some uninterrupted time and a safe place to examine your pocket watch, roll + INT. On a 10+ you hold 3 Moments In Time. On a 7-9 you hold 2 Moments and on a 6- you hold 1 moment. You may spend moments on the following, but remember nothing is free.

1. Move to a nearby location instantly.

2. Confuse a nearby foe by rewinding them a moment in time.

3. Reveal a danger lurking in the near future.

4. Complete mundane tasks rather briskly.

2. Tick-Tock

⦁ During battle, as you watch the action unfold and focus on the precise ticking of the pocket watch, roll+INT. On a 10+ you see the perfect shot and take it, +1d4 damage. On a 7-9, as a 10+ but something goes wrong. Choose one.

1. You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot.

2. You feel your connection to the pocket watch slipping, take -1 forward on INT rolls.

3. The pocket watch demands payment, take 1d4 damage.

3. Visions Through Time

⦁ If you study the pocket watch and lose yourself as you gaze in to its precise mechanisms. The GM will reveal the details of a grim portent to you-a bleak event that will come to pass without your intervention. They’ll tell you something useful about how you can interfere with the grim portent’s dark outcomes.

4. Old Blood

⦁ You are a member of a well respected noble family with a long lineage. Take +1 in any dealings with other nobles, government or military officials.

5. From the Black Gate Returned

⦁ You Bear a mark of your time in the realm of the dead. Choose a part of your body that takes on the visble aspects of death while remaining fully functional:

Arm: Any weapon you grasp flows into the other world. It gains +2 piercing against living creatures.

Eye: When you touch a corpse you see what it saw in its last moments.

Legs: Your passing leaves no mark or scent as a living person would.

Ear: You hear the whispers of the dead.

or Come up with your own ___.

Any feedback welcomed. Thanks.

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

Hey folks!

I just released this pack of what I call Companion Classes – they’re sort of like expanded compendium classes that you pick at character gen, kinda like racial modifiers but with 10 Advancement moves, 1 background, 2 new Drives, a death move and 3 starter moves to pick from, in addition to your standard playbook. This way you can have a Minotaur Fighter or a Dragonspawn Wizard, for example.

These books are focused on playing as monster races, a Minotaur, Dragonspawn and Ratman, very thematic, and I playtested the concept pretty extensively.
