I’m trying to find rules for spell research that I swear I saw in Freebooters of the Frontier, but now I can’t find it. It involved easier research if the new spell had words in common with spells the character already knew. Does this ring a bell for anyone and can you point me to what I’m thinking of?

So, I found a print service that does “Tarot” sized 2-sided color cards for not very much money.

I’ll do all the moves from the core FotF rules plus my house “tweaks”.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether and how the BANK IT move can/should be used with vanilla DW?

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether and how the BANK IT move can/should be used with vanilla DW? Can you just change “silver pieces” to “coins” and use it? Looking at the price lists from both games, it seems there is no consistent exchange rate.

I want to do this, but I want to make sure I am not missing something obvious.

I wonder if there are those FotF players out there who would be willing to share and discuss how you actually use GROUP followers during a fight. I tend to lean heavily on the storytelling side, so I’ve often been found winging it, but I’d like to see a by-the-rules play-by-play take on this. In one game, I’ve been finding it challenging lately to handle “Ferenhaem’s Guard” a group of archers who also carry swords. I understand that they are a follower unlike any other except they possess the GROUP tag, but with 6HP, does this mean a single giant rat bite can kill them ALL AT ONCE? And how should their damage work? I’ve been using the rule, roll player damage, roll follower damage, take the higher number. “Do their Thing”, however, seems to suggest that the followed can make independent damage rolls. Maybe I should consult The Perilous Wild more closely, but I thought I’d ask first…

Thanks!

Thinking about a new campaign using Freebooters on the Frontier, but I want a slightly more WFRP feel, so I was considering making dwarven wizards into dwarven rune-casters. They are essentially the same, but they would have rune spells instead of the normal spells.

I started working on a d66 table (for the Warhammer Quest feel) for rune magic:

I would tentatively like to open up 3-4 slots for a Freebooters play-by-post I’m hoping to run over on Tavern Keeper.

I’ll warn you now, I am new to GMing in general, so please bear with me. Input/help/constructive criticism will be great welcomed through the course of play!

Just putting feelers out to see if anyone’s looking to run a PbP sometime? I’m a long-time lurker, and would love to run a game myself but lack the experience and courage to do so!

I present “The Journeys of the ‘Shadow of the Jewel'” — a map recalling the adventures of a crew of twelve during a recent game of “Freebooters on the High Seas.” More to come, including the inevitable discovery of the lost library containing the “Tome of Ravenous Darkness.”

How delicate is the balance and integrity of Freebooters on the Frontier?

How delicate is the balance and integrity of Freebooters on the Frontier?

How delicate is the balance and integrity of Freebooters on the Frontier? How compatible are the Perilous Wilds compendium classes, for example? How would you change them or not? Am I right in suspecting that if I wanted to introduce a new class altogether (a few in Grim World seem to fit with the idea of the campaign I want to run) the better idea would be to introduce advanced moves to the appropriate existing class?

Thanks!

One more thing: it’s perfectly legitimate to do less random character creation, right? Specifically, I wanted to let the players choose their class/heritage, distribute stats like core DW and then only roll for Luck. I’ll probably start them off with max HP and then do the SWN rolling for HP from then on.

I’ve not been enjoying using the see what they find “move”.

So perhaps an alternative idea.

See what they find.

Roll +(?)

On a 10+ pick 3 on a 7 – 9 pick 2. on a 6 or less, GM makes a move

1: You move closer to your goal

2: You make a discovery

3: It doesn’t take long (consume fewer resources or none at all?

First move i’ve ever written, so i’m not entirely sure what to include.

It’s obviously moving away from the games style. I just think that the dungeon delving method could be done in much the same manner as the overland adventure.
