Would anyone be interested in giving some feedback on my first draft of my next adventure pack, Welcome to the Jungle?

It’s about 40 pages so far, A5. I’d be happy to give you a PDF of the released version as a thank you!

For your consideration: an update to Shapeshifter

For your consideration: an update to Shapeshifter

For your consideration: an update to Shapeshifter

Looking for some feedback on this as an alternative to the Druid’s current shapeshifter move. I don’t think I’m the only one who finds this move a bit tricky to deal with, as a GM; I’m hoping this makes it a bit more fair and a bit less show-stealing from the other players while still being suitably dramatic!

When you spend a few uninterrupted moments and call on the Spirits to change your shape…

…into a nimble form, roll+DEX

…into a durable form, roll+CON

…into a perceptive form, roll+WIS.

On a 10+ hold 3. On a 7–9 hold 2. On a miss hold 1 in addition to whatever the GM says.

While shifted, any time you are told to roll using the modifier you used Shapeshifter with, you may spend 1 hold instead. That move then occurs as though you rolled a 10+. (For example, if you changed into a protective form, you could spend 1 hold to defend as though you’d rolled a 10+.) Moves using any other modifiers are rolled for as usual.

Once you’re out of hold, you return to your natural form. At any time, you may spend all your hold and revert to your natural form.

You may take on the physical form of any species whose essence you have studied or who lives in your land: you and your possessions meld into a perfect copy of the species’ form. You have any innate abilities and weaknesses of the form: claws, wings, gills, breathing water instead of air. You still use your normal stats but some moves may be harder to trigger—a housecat will find it hard to do battle with an ogre. Some moves may be impossible (e.g. volley.)

A last breath for #rangerweek  – in yesterday’s game, the ranger was clobbered by a brutish ogre and found herself in front of her combined deity and afterlife, the tree of life and death.

She took the bargain (rolled an 8) and was returned to life, but now could only gain sustenance from ‘the lifeblood of the trees’ – fresh tree sap tastes like the sweetest ambrosia to her now, but any other food turns to ash in her mouth.

Naturally, when she levelled up at the end of the session the player felt compelled to take god amidst the wastes. Fun times!

I cannot get this idea of a World of Warcraft / Dungeon World mashup out of my head.

I’m looking for more feedback on this mechanic and whether it should go into my next book.

Really interested in feedback on this – I’m intending to include it in my next adventure pack.

In short, it’s an addition for #DungeonWorld  to reward XP, alongside bonds and alignment/drive.

It works well for our group, but what about you? Would you use a system like this personally?

So here’s the setup I wrote for my players for tonight’s session.

So here’s the setup I wrote for my players for tonight’s session. (I used the formatting from World of Warcraft’s patch notes, of all things, as a guide.) It was pretty fun to write, but time consuming!

As the ground continues to quake and ancient evils wake from old slumber, the factions vying for control of the Green Scar have been spurred into action. Tribesmen and civilisations alike make new preparations against the oncoming dangers. Meanwhile, a continent away, the ‘true’ owners of the jungle may have already been decided…

I See You

For the first time in recorded history, the individual tribes of the jungle – the Bufo, the Vaagrim, the Ekek, and many more – will meet to discuss an alliance against the dangers that face them all. The Bloodcapes are willing to vouch for representatives from Brink – if they wish to join in the discussion and ensure the process goes smoothly.

Temples of Doom

Though it’s rumoured death and desertion has led to a critical cut in funding, Professor Pontius Philiogus and his crack team of archaeologists are determined to lead one last expedition into the recently-uncovered depths to find the truth behind the ancient empire – and are asking for any able-bodied souls to join them.

You Can’t Handle the Truth!

Before setting up above the canyon, the Brink family built a settlement in the jungle itself. The site was abandoned shortly after – no-one in the family has gone back since, claiming the entire area was “haunted”. With the threat of being legally – and forcibly – evicted from the Green Scar looming, the Brink family are looking for capable bodyguards to defend Chalcedon’s foremost barrister, who has arrived at the Green Scar to ensure any lingering secrets at First Brink never see the light of day.

Seriously you guys rock :)

Sneaking this in before the end of #bardweek

Sneaking this in before the end of #bardweek

Sneaking this in before the end of #bardweek … A quick compendium class for when your bard gets a band! (With thanks to the AW Hocus class)

The Band

When you find 3 or more like-minded souls to jam with, you may take this move the next time you level up:

Let’s Jam!

You become the lead singer/player of a band of travelling minstrels! Name your band. Your band-mates won’t follow you into dungeons or obvious danger, but will catch up with you back in town if at all possible. When you and your band play a gig, roll +CHA. On a hit, choose one of the following; on a 10+, choose one and take +1 forward.

– Rumours of a fantastic opportunity

– Improve your standing in town (from despised to disliked, from disliked to neutral, from neutral to liked, from liked to loved.)

– D6x10-coin in merchandise sales

If you have taken Let’s Jam!, the following count as class moves for you when you level up:

Party in style

When you or an ally carouses and your band is playing at the party, take +1 forward to your roll.

Heard the call

When you jam, add the following to your list of options:

– you convince a member of the band to join you on your next adventure. Gain a hireling (+1 skill, +1 loyalty, cost: Fame and Glory)

Gain insight

When you ask your band for advice on the best way to accomplish a goal, the GM will tell you what they say. Take +1 ongoing if you follow their advice; if their advice turns out to be bad, mark experience.

Quick update: I’ve noticed a couple of people have gotten the pack from RPGnow or via the direct link and might not have got the discount. I’ve re-applied this as a general discount now – here’s the new link: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=119460

If anyone thinks they’ve not got the discount price ($4.10) hit me up on hangouts and we’ll work it out. Thanks!

Hi all,

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who helped out with my new adventure pack. I’ve published it to DTRPG today – here’s a day-one discount (valid until the start of October) as my way of saying thanks!

If you’ve not heard of it yet, here’s the blurb:

The sand billows about you, obscuring the old road and making your eyes water. Ahead, the silhouette of the “fortunate city” looms. What will this venerable capital contain for you and your party – riches, fame and glory? Or corruption, scandal and death far from your home?

Shadows of Umberto is a framework for running Dungeon World adventures within, above, below and beyond an ancient city teetering on the brink of revolution. Will your party be heralds to a glorious new order, or help usher in the city’s demise? One way to find out…

Hope you enjoy – let me know what you think!
