For me this is hard. There are a lot of characters i really like that are highly defined by their faith but they are not Clerics/Divine Spellcasters in that sense. In all the media i consume Faith Magic in a DnDish sense isn’t really happening at all. I was thinking of Gandalf but he doesn’t count. All my favourite Anime doesn’t have that stuff and so, coming up blank, i walked over to my bookshelf and low and behold i found someone:
(all sentences here just reflect my personal opinion and experiences. Don’t take this as an absolute truth or anything.)
When you are a Cleric of a Deity of Healing and Restoration, don’t simply be a healbot. If all your character ever does is cast healing and buff spells without much own motivation you will be missing out.
Think about what it means to be able to bring people back from the dead etc. Even in a fantasy world this will give you some sway. Just see what Jesus did with the lame and the sick.
So you could become or Martyr, or offer your gifts only at a price. Only the worthy will get the privilege of your gifts.
For funzies, choose Trial by Combat as a your precept. Smite them, then heal them.
The Downtrodden and Forgotten, this one still is confusing to me, what does that mean? Is that basically a god of slaves? So your cleric would be Moses? If so, that is an amazing character concept and campaign hook. It could be a god of Thieves and other lowlife. This would reflect the truth of Torchbearer that all Clerics become Criminals during their career…
But yeah, what is this supposed to mean? What does it mean to you?
What Lies Beneath? What? What? WHAAAAAT? It’s driving me INSANE!
Okay, maybe that is the point because Lovecraft Mythos is the first thing that comes to my mind here. Other ideas would be elemental creatures that got sealed in the world (like the Eldrazi on Zendikar).
Both of these options however seem pretty Evil to me. What else fits into domain and how can you make this something Good/Lawfull?
How much overlap is there with The Downtrodden and Forgotten?

Thanks Roland P for reminding me;
For all i know there is no regular german Hangout campaign going on BUT there are a bunch of one-shots being run. Mostly by David Reichgeld (and me). What has come from that is that players bring their characters they played in other games and use them going forward. Do you see that stuff happening too? That people bring characters they played in other guys’ games?
To be clear, i don’t see a problem with that. On the other hand the oneshots run in the german community are mostly scenarios more then a first session as described in the book or by Ezio Melega recently. I wonder if the first session procedure being used more often would change that kind of behavior. Since a world created from these specific characters would bind the characters more into that world. When you bring that character into a completely new world it might feel weird.
The other thing to do would be to create a living campaign world from all these oneshots with an ongoing document that specifies it. That would however leave less and less empty spaces for new players to establish their characters…
Welcome to Class Week! Class Week is a weeklong community event to get us talking about specific classes and examine them to find all the gems we can do with them!
For 2014, let’s start with the Divine Crusader, the Holy Pilgrim, the Chosen Miracleworker, THE CLERIC!
Cleric (and to a lesser degree Paladins) bring the works and worlds of the gods into your game of Dungeon World. They are more then Healbots and Buffmachines; they wear divine authority and are blessed by higher forces. Every party will be happy to have one with them because, just like the Bard, they can become the heart and moral compass of a group and might even give everyone a Mission from God.
So let’s have a look at things we can do with that. You all are highly encouraged to participate by asking questions, telling stories and creating custom content. Here are a few examples:
How does divine guidance really work?
How can you make sure to bring the gods front and central when a Cleric is in your game?
How do Clerics of a Pantheon work?
What is it like to cast a divine spell? How does it feel to be touched by the gods or when they heal your wounds?
What other races make good clerics?
What new Cleric Spells can we write?
What do you like most about Clerics?

Sage LaTorra Adam Koebel could you sticky this post until next week? (and change the logo then?)
Maybe you saw me talking about a class based on transforming yourself. Well here it is, the Battleshaper! It takes inspirations from the 4e Warden, Beorn, Blade, primal magic and elements inspired in other DW classes.
The design on this class is basically done. It is missing 1 more Level 6-10 moves. Name and look lists, a fancy character sheet and PLAYTESTING!
But how do you think this looks in it’s current form? Is the main transformation mechanic understandable?
Would you be satisfied if a class about self transformation only gave you new tags when you transform; not new moves…
Would you be satisfied if a class about self transformation only gave you new tags when you transform; not new moves or spelled out special abilities? At least at level 1 that is.
So let’s say you take a SnakeMan transformation that gives you
How would people feel about the return of Class Week! ?

The Cleric and Barbarian are still left and there are now a bunch of other classes.
Would you still be interested in taking a week to focus on specific classes? Do you want to talk about the Cleric and Barbarian? Should we refocus again on the original classes or move on to third party material?
Druid Week for example was highly beloved but there are a bunch of new people in the community that may want to contribute.
Thoughts? Ideas?
Would anyone like to take it off my hands and run it going forward?
