Spell Research (Wizard Advanced Move for levels 6-10)

When you consult far-flung curiosity cabinets, kibbutz with exotic arcanists, and filch half-finished manuscripts from rival eldritch masters in an effort to discover a new arcane formula, draft a magical effect not covered by an existing spell. Work with your DM to determine this new spell’s level. Roll +INT : On a 10+, you can add the new spell to your spellbook and can prepare it as you would any other. On a 7-9, the spell counts as one level higher than what was agreed upon. Regardless of the result, spend a number of XP equal to the level of the spell.

Hello my favoritest of communities!

Hello my favoritest of communities!  Deanna Nygren and I just launched a kickstarter for a brand new Dungeon World supplement called Grim World!

Backing at the DIGITAL tier or higher gets you instant access to 6 class playbooks (plus you get the digital book later on).  There’s lots more information on the page (along with a video full of silly things).  You can also see a preview of the classes here: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjHBnHNv

I’ll be lurking around these here parts (as I usually do when I should be doing other things) so let me know if I can answer any questions!  We’re excited to finally get this in front of you guys!

Last night, I was trying to come up with some custom moves for the climactic scene of today’s #DungeonWorld adventure. What does everyone think of these?

=======

When you bond the Eye of the Cyclops to Shaman Liri’s staff, roll+DEX. On a 10, choose two. On a 7-9, choose one:

* The eye bonds firmly and will not shake loose during the healing ritual;

* It doesn’t take very long;

* The giant spiders don’t see you there.

======

When you call upon the Eye of the Cyclops to heal the LightStone, roll+WIS. On a 10, the stone is healed and your foes banished by the light coming from the newly-restored stone. On a 7-9,  choose two:

* You aren’t blinded during the ritual;

* Shaman Liri escapes harm;

* The staff doesn’t explode.

On a miss the ritual fails unless you choose none of he above.

=======

I’m new to this and I realise that the “Shaman Liri escapes harm” choice/outcome isn’t actually linked to the trigger, it’s just something that can happen in the scene. Is this a bad idea?

What about you?

#1 Have a full on (air)ship vs. (air)ship fight with all the swashbuckling tropes

#2 Have a full on (air)ship vs. big scary monster fight

#3 Play a Captain and a Ranger

#4 See all the compendium Classes i have created in Play(test)

#5 Figure out cool new ways to do meta-magic moves for Wizards

#6 Write a full on base class (just lacking the really good idea/archetype)

#7 Run the Torchbearer adventure module in DW with focus on all the things Torchbearer cares about. Just to see how Dungeonworld works with this

#8 Play/Run Inverse World

#9 See a character reach level 10 and then change their Class

Played my first game of #DungeonWorld last night, via #Roll20   and had a great amount of fun despite dice that conspired with extreme prejudice  against my poor Dwarven Necromancer. Kudos to all involved in both DW as a game and our adventure!

My weekly #DungeonWorld game played over Roll20 last night was a ton of fun.

My weekly #DungeonWorld game played over Roll20 last night was a ton of fun. Didn’t have the best dice rolls but managed to survive and earn some much needed XP and a spear through the thigh, hurts a tad bit lol.. Can’t wait till next week. I am really enjoying this game and system..m/

Sharing my own post to go into further DW-related detail. This was the first real session in my Keep on the Borderlands 1983 setting. Thanks to the Ask Questions principle and some very creative players, this lean sandboxy idea of mine has turned into a potential campaign of epic proportions.

After a couple hours of play time, this rag-tag group of rather inefficient adventurers has set out to find a fallen star. This relic should lead them to discovering who among them is destined to become the traveling companion of a godly avatar. The fun thing is that nobody among the priesthood of said deity has the slightest idea of what he stands for.

Fuck the game, I’m just gonna write a novel on this premise! 😉

I ran my first game via Hangout and Roll20 It was a lot of fun, and my experience as a player helped me work out the kinks.

We started with an ambush by kobold bandits, had some typical social interaction in the village and when we left our bold adventurers, they were about to explore the cellars of the Keep on the Borderlands, looking for giant rats…

#DungeonWorld  with five players makes for exhausting fights though.
