Crown of the Lich King

Crown of the Lich King

Crown of the Lich King

This ornate circlet radiates evil and necromantic magics; whosoever wears it is able to treat any necromantic magics* as one level lower when communing or preparing spells, and takes +1 ongoing to cast such spells.  Finally, such spells are Empowered (as the Cleric move) if appropriate.

The crown, however, brooks no impostors from the living.  If the caster achieves a partial success on casting such a spell, he gains a physical debility of the GM’s choice as the crown drains his life energies.

Should the caster ever fail a roll to cast such a spell, or if he achieves a partial success while having all three physical debilities, then the crown snuffs out his life.  If the wearer, then, fails their Last Breath roll, their body rises again as a vessel for the Lich King himself to inhabit.

*GM interpretation, but speak with dead, animate dead, trap soul, consume unlife, contacts spirits, cloudkill and soul gem come to mind.

Ten magic items. The goal is to write down ten magic items a day. I’m mostly keeping these as fictional colour, but when thinking mechanics I’m focusing on DW.

The King’s Bane Throne

The King’s Bane Throne

The King’s Bane Throne

This lavish, ornate throne was originally a peace offering to a long forgotten tyrant but it’s beauty belies it’s true purpose. Anyone who sits on the throne when nobody else is present, is drawn into the throne and kept alive magically. They age as they would naturally, insanity setting in long before death.

The Book of Cain

This fascinating tome is filled with a lifetime of knowledge and pertinent facts on creatures, locations and peoples across the world. Whenever you get a moment to do so, you feel compelled to stay a while and read from the book.

While the book is in your possession, whenever you make camp you gain +1 forward the next time you Spout Lore. However, you find the book so engrossing you neglect to take care of yourself and your allies – pick one:

Your watch (if you’re called to take one) is automatically a failure, as you’re too engrossed with reading.

You miss the chance to catch some sleep and don’t regain any HP.

Hello everyone, i need some ideas to create magic items to our next game session.

Hello everyone, i need some ideas to create magic items to our next game session.

The group consists of a dancing Bard, a boaster/mouthy Fighter, a secretive Mage, a ferocious Druid and an insane Thief.

Currently they began exploring an abandoned keep searching for a treacherous necromancer and allied themselves (with some suspicion) with a headless knight who wants revenge and freedom from the necromancer.

I thought about some items I could put in the game, now or later, but i need more ideas. The ones I thought are:

– Some kind of dancing veil or other clothing that could be animated by command to be a rope, a whip, make a bridge, tentacle etc.

– A scabbard of some sorts, maybe from the headless knight (ancient bloodstained?)

– A bottle with Holy Celestial Light inside that could be a lantern and “drank” as a powerful cleanse.

Oh and they got hold on an ancient shadow orb that they broke. It released some dark corrupt energy but it still has some power. I thought to make it divided in 2 shards, one to control darkness and the other to control undead.

Mists of Amore’

Mists of Amore’

Mists of Amore’

A single puff from this perfume bottle and the user will find themselves seeing thin, red, ethereal ribbons coming from people’s chests. These ribbons connect to anyone with whom they had intimate relations with. This effect will last till the next sunrise.

The Mists provide no information if the “relations” where consensual, nor will you know how recent these were. Distance is not a factor either and it’s not unusual to see ribbons leading off beyond oceans or horizons.

The bottle will usually be found with only a few drops of perfume, and can only be replenished with the tears of the heartbroken, fortunately (or not) the Mists are excellent at providing those.

Hey all.

Hey all.

Hey all.

Trying out a magic item that’s going to be central to our game world.

Textless Book

When you read from the textless book, roll + INT.

on a 10+, you glean some useful information about an area of the GM’s choice: take +1 ongoing to any spout lore regarding this area.

on a 7-9, you glean vague images and suggestions about this area, take +1 forward to your next spout lore concerning it, but the sealing magics infused within the book slam the pages together, it will be some time before you can read again.

The idea with this item is that whenever it is read from, an area in the world is consumed by X EVENT, and all knowable things about it are stored within.

I was thinking about writing up an item card for it with a description that would explain eldritch energies escaping whenever it was opened, but I wanted to get you guys’ opinion on the rules write-up.

Thanks in advance!

Elixir of Longevity

The quest for immortality has been at the core of many an alchemist’s research. While true eternal life is not possible without possessing a Philosopher’s Stone, several breakthroughs in the field of extending one’s natural lifespan have been achieved in the last century. The side effects aren’t nearly as bad as they used to be either.

When you drink this inky black elixir, you do not age for the next 2d4 years. The elixir does not restore youth, it merely prevents aging for a while. Then roll 1d6.

1: No side effects this time…

2: Lose one point of Intelligence permanently.

3: Lose one point of Wisdom permanently.

4: Lose one point of Charisma permanently.

5: Lose one point in any attribute of the player’s choice.

6: Lose one point in any attribute of the gamemaster’s choice.

After the duration of the elixir has run out, the drinker begins to age twice as fast for the same number of years as the elixir’s original duration unless he drinks another elixir of longevity. This effect is cumulative, all the prevented years will come back unless the drinker continues to consume elixir when each dose runs out.

Scroll-Caster

This silver tube, engraved with an intricate artistic pattern, appears at first glance to be an elaborate scroll case. The caps on either end are each set with a roughly-hewn onyx, bound in silver wire. When a common scroll is in the tube, and both ends caps are fastened, the wielder can sense the arcane energies present and harness them as if they were a spellcaster.

When you gesture with the scroll-caster in hand and speak the command word, roll+INT. On a 10+, the spell scribed onto the scroll is successfully cast (as if it were castable by you or on your class’s spell list). On a 7-9, the spell is cast, but choose one:

• You draw unwelcome attention or put yourself in a spot. The GM will tell you how.

• The spell disturbs the fabric of reality as it is cast—take -1 ongoing to using the scroll-caster until you wait for a minute or two and let reality settle back into place.

• After the scroll’s spell is cast, the scroll is depleted, leaving behind an ordinary sheaf of parchment.
