I made a thing. It’s a half-letter-sized sheet for creating and/or recording monsters.

In the vein of the “Keep Calm and…” phenomenon, I want a “Keep Calm – What Do You Do?” t-shirt.

Frustration.

Frustration.

Frustration. I got my books yesterday (I ordered 4 hardcovers). They’re all beautiful and perfect EXCEPT the one that is signed. The pages of that ONE BOOK are cut improperly and joined together at the top margin in many places. I can separate the pages, of course, but that leaves them a bit ragged. I wouldn’t care if it were one of the UNSIGNED copies, but woe is me… it is not.

So my package arrived with my very pretty DW hardback, backer supplements and t-shirt. Pack the book into my backpack to leaf through it on my break at work. Trip to work is cut unfortunately short due to vehicular collision.

With my bicycle.

I fly 10 feet and land shoulder first. After a quick check of all major joints, head and neck, as well as snagging info from the driver, I walk away from the accident no problem and get myself to the hospital. Alas, Canada. 7 hours later a doctor is able to give me a full physical run down after two look-overs by nurses, clean bill of health, nothing more significant than a bruise. Danger Defied, yo!

Anyway, on the bus home, I remember I have the DW hardback. Check to make sure it’s fine (not a scratch), and then crack it open. Signed, “The sky god watches over you,” and, “Take +1 forward vs Trucks.” No kidding, on both counts. Thanks guys 😀

During our game of Dungeon World, the Druid explained to me what being THE Druid means.

There are actually dozens of Druids in the Halfling clans — they’re spiritual leaders, they commune with the animals and the spirits. They’re a secretive sect, with secret rituals to usher then through the ranks. Being THE Druid means that when he underwent the final ritual, the spirits answered back and flooded into him to mark him.

He is not just the Halflings’ Druid — he is the Spirits’ Druid as well, and he helps bridge both worlds.

I asked if that made him important, like the Druid-pope or whatever. He said no, he’s just a special servant.

So, we have the Avatar, except he belongs to his people wholly, rather than having any individual power or authority of his own.

It feels like an awesome train wreck waiting to happen.

Got mine just in time for Australian Valentine’s Day.  Boys, did you plan it this way?  Consider me wooed (+1 foward)

I’ve been tinkering a little again, this time about swarm type creatures of a slightly larger format, like kobolds and goblins. Not at all dangerous to an adventurer by itself, you’re much more likely to get killed by slipping and hitting your head on a rock.

I like making scenes epic by throwing in lots and lots of mobs. DW handles that nicely since there’s almost no book keeping, but a hundred goblins are likely to kill an entire party because of the damage modifier.

I wanted to take swarms an extra mile.

How would you model monsters that were only truly dangerous when facing hundreds of them? I was thinking of actually not even give them monster status, but just treat them as terrain, making it a Special Move.

Move through swarm

When forcing you way through a swarm of creatures, roll+DEX. *On a 10+ you move through them otherwise unhindered. *On a 7-9, choose one:

– Critters crawl up your body as you go, weighing you down. Take -1 forward.

– Take 1d6 damage, ignoring armour.

Thoughts?
