Having so much fun, finally getting a chance to play Dungeon Planet as opposed to run.  Nice work, Johnstone Metzger.  Such a great book.

Ran the second session in our sporadic Dungeon Planet campaign, it really is just crazy amounts of fun.  Highlights:

-Vinca the Mutant’s Unstable Mutation roll causing her to become temporily male.  Further complications included being singled out by the monarch of the White Fortress to wed the Princess Alyra.  The Chaotically aligned Vinca did not pass up the opportunity to make trouble.

-The Evil Technician, Garth, after finally gaining control of his foe’s phalanx of detached, murderous robotic hands, turns them on their master.  Garth’s player then dropped the following line and broke into classic mad scientist laughter.

“I guess now, you’ll die by your own…hands!”

THE SONG AT THE EDGE

THE SONG AT THE EDGE

THE SONG AT THE EDGE

(Cult, Temple, Acquisition, Distant Plane)

Tyramese, androgyne humanoid from the Cult of Sensation, seeks advancement by presenting the rest of the Sensates with a truly unique experience.

The research of Tyramese’s assitant, Lendara, revealed a possible location for Fair Ecthellium, a city built on the edge of a splintered reality, constructed to capture the song of the great void itself.

Lenadra set off to find Fair Ecthellium, but never returned.  Now Tyramese seeks to send some hardy freebooters instead, to return with the song of the boid captured in a magickal recording stone.

Rumours:

-Fair Ecthellium is fabled and cursed.  Many have sought it’s song and none have returned.

-Lendara was last seen entering a gate to the Astral Plane, believing Ecthellium lodged somewhere in its vastness.

-Guides and trackers familiar with the Astral Plane are around, but they’re a strange lot, even for Dis.

Dangers:

-The Cult is not without its internal divisions, and one of Tyramese’s rivals might make a counter-offer, or worse, to ensure they get the song first.

-If Ecthellium is indeed on the Astral Plane, that could be bad.  Patrols of ruthless githyanki marines are still dealing with the last decades-long spawning of slaad that boiled onto the Astral Plane from the wilds of Limbo.

-Ecthellium, amphitheatre city on the edge of nowhere, could indeed be cursed.  What has centuries of exposure to voidsong done to its citizens?

-Lendara

-Halwyr the Arcane awakens from a carouse to find he’s bought a house made entirely out of books, occupied by a cloaked mysterious figure known only as Karen.  Looking for boarders, contact Halwyr at the Harlot’s Fortune.

-A vampire is released from beneath the old Ditchwater civic chambers.  Freebooters wanted to hunt and slay master vampire.  Fee negotiable.  Start immediately.

-The cats in Ditchwater travel in packs now for their own protection.  What in hell are those rats up to?  Can’t wait to play and find out.

Seven moons encircle the great dead world, Algol.  On one such moon, Suspiria, does our saga begin.

Garth, a technician, dedicated to turning himself into a machine, reactivates the aeons-old robot soldier Olympia and together with Sharath, an exiled soldier of the Imperial Guard, they travel the Malachite Wastes in search of lost technology and adventure.

They rescue the Princess of the White Fortress from a platoon of Saurian marauders and become entangled in a conflict that may decide the fate of all life on Suspiria.

My players loved it.  I was a bit suprised no-one went for the Earthling (we ended up with an Android Tecnician, an Engine of Destruction and an Alien Fighter), and wondered how play would progress without the big staple of planetary romance.

No problems at all.  Everyone was soon swept up in the weird-pulp culture that developed.    We even got to finish on an old school cliff-hanger, with a reptiloid army about to attack the White Fortress, the Alien Fighter poisoned by a scheming traitor and the Engine and Tecnnician locked in an old laboratory that began to fill with caustic gas (also by very busy scheming traitor).

Thanks Johnstone Metzger , two thumbs up.  Would play again.

Going beyond the Black Gates in Dungeon Planet

Going beyond the Black Gates in Dungeon Planet

Going beyond the Black Gates in Dungeon Planet

Does this manifest the same in your Dungeon Planet games as it does in DW?  Is Death a chromed skeletal cyborg with a laser scythe?  Is Death anthropomorphized at all in your game?

I ask because I’m breaking ground on Dungeon Planet this weekend and I want to be prepared for the best worst and I’m interested to see how other people have repped the reaper in planetary romance.

On a 10+ choose 1, 7-9 Choose 2 different options, 6- Choose 1 option, the GM picks another.

Your time here has seen you:

-Tortured – take the Scarred Condition.

-Corrupted – Change Alignment to Evil or, failing that, Chaotic. If already Evil or Chaotic, your time here has been very educational, mark XP.  (Paladins can’t take this option).

-Broken – Lose a class move until you aren’t broken anymore.

-Hunted – Hell’s jailers really didn’t like losing you. They’ve set something on your trail to bring you back.

-The forest troll druid has been making friends with the rats in his building  and turns to the rodents for information on a job.  He flubs his roll and a rat leads him(as a shapeshifted rat) into a cistern, which he finds occupied by a circle of hooded rats.

‘This is the one I’ve been telling you about brothers,’ the druid’s rat guide hisses.  ‘The one who spies on us and would know our plans.’

DRUID: What the hell?

ME:  They pounce on you man.  What do you do?

Whilst traversing the Astral Plane, the group’s githzerai hireling guide is captured by githyanki.  The bard calls for a trial, claiming the guide is her slave and lawful property.  She goes on to successfully  get the guide released into her custody by convinving the court that the worst possible punishment for the githzerai is to continue life in her service.

(Whilst the trial boiled down to some fun roleplay, and a couple of Defy Danger rolls based on CHR, I think I’ll have to nut out some custom trial moves for the inevitable repercussions and legal proceedings my group will face).

Also:

Cursed swords being thrown off the edge of a world, slaadi reavers, pocket bears, successful recording of the most beautiful song in existence and so on.
