I know monsters are “any living (or unread) thing that stands in the characters’ way”, and that they are intended to be “ammunition of the danger you’re presenting”, but can there be examples of monsters that are the exception to this? “Non-evil” monsters so to speak (yes I know monsters don’t have alignments)? Or do they cease to be monsters (and are just creatures) if they aren’t there to support thinking dangerous?

I have a question about the “perilous journey” move.

I have a question about the “perilous journey” move. The trailblazer may reduce the time it takes to get to the destination, and the quartermaster may reduce rations used up. But “Distances in Dungeon World are measured in rations. A ration is the amount of supplies used up in a day. Journeys take more rations when they are long or when travel is slow.” (p. 75)

So if the time is reduced, does that mean that rations used up are? Are those role narratively doing something different that are mechanically the same (in one way; arriving faster can have some other important impact, for example). Not that it is bad, but I’m a bit confused, since the book does not say explicitely that the trailblazer reduce the number of ration, but definitely imply it, since it says that a longer journey would use more.

Thanks!

Quick update on the GM screen I put together.

Quick update on the GM screen I put together.  I kept the first three pages which are the ones I’ll be using, but added a Weapons and Equipment and Tags page.  I also made a black and white version with no images for easy printing if you prefer.

I did not add the Instincts, Services, and some other requests due to them being either too many items to fit well on a screen or too damn much typing for my laziness level.  Your choice.

Enjoy!

Running my first session of DW as an open table invitation at my local game shop tomorrow.  I’m going to run the “Indigo Galleon” adventure but a good point was brought up when I posted about it on Reddit: If the players pilfer the treasure from the galleon what stops them from just leaving with the loot?  Well that sounds like an invitation for new Fronts to pop up.  What would you throw at players trying to leave the scene (or this scene specifically) where your adventure is supposed to take place?  What kind of micro front would you use to keep the game from ending too quickly?

Are the battle axe, long sword and flail in the rules – weapons that give +1 damage – supposed to be two-handed weapons? It doesn’t actually say so.

I’m not interested in historical or other game definitions; I know all that. Nor “Do what you want” answers. Merely this game’s authorial intent.

Does anyone know what the translation for the Dungeon World motto on the t shirts says?

Does anyone know what the translation for the Dungeon World motto on the t shirts says?

I found this translation on Google+:

Contra omnes pericula

colligatum in armis

in tenebras arcem

ob thesaurum et gloria

Against all dangers

bound together in arms

into the dark stonghold

for treasure and glory

But there seem to have been some changes made, particularly to the last sentence, which now reads “Direptum praedam et gloriam quaesitum.” Is it just spelling/grammar corrections, or did the meaning of the last sentence change?

Google translate suggests “Plundered plunder and glory sought”… Maybe it’s something like “Seeking plunder and glory?”
