I made this for a friend who wanted “a super simple RPG without a bunch of fiddly stuff to worry about where we can just tell a cool story”. I showed him Dungeon World and Fate, but he wanted something even more simple than both.

I understand that this is overly simplified for many of your tastes, and the way in which things are worded can be improved. It’s based heavily on Dungeon World and Fate, plus a bit of The Indie Hack (“details”) and comes in at two pages – ideally printed back-to-back so as to take up only one sheet of paper (which he has done, and laminated).

He has played it twice with different groups and has enjoyed the simplicity while still finding it gave he and his players plenty of narrative control.

What are your thoughts please? Any and all constructive criticism is welcome!

We are proud to announce the first ever public playtest of Worlds of Adventure!

What is this?

Worlds of Adventure is an ongoing project to present a simplified, tightened ruleset for Dungeon World that builds on the strengths and themes of the original game, while incorporating newer ideas and designs made popular since the game’s original release. In Worlds of Adventure, we try to enhance those rules that facilitate roleplay, simplicity, and flexibility, while keeping true to Dungeon World’s’ roots. The ruleset for Worlds of Adventure is meant to both supercede and take precedence over those of Dungeon World.

You can read a summary of these changes in the Introduction section of the document.

Please remember that this is just an early playtest; many of these rules are expected to change and adjust based on community feedback.

Thanks, and please send us your comments & suggestions!

I really like this. If you’ve ever toyed around with the HP system in DW I recommend giving this post a read. The spreadsheet linked from it is great if you want to dive into the numbers. Here’s a summary of the post from the author: “Instead of HP you have boxes that you check each time you’re hit and you can add a tag next to one for narrative effect.”

It gives them help, in the form of weird and useful magical items, then leaves them to face the consequences of their crimes when it departs.” – Johnstone

This adventure setting isn’t Dungeon World specific, but it has a very detailed map of a refuge for lepers in a magical city that is ruled by a lich. Each room is marked and the map and detailed with its inhabitants. It’s creepy and dark and really cool.

The text is in German so I don’t know that the post says, but the book looks very nice. It makes me pine for a hardcover edition of the game.

This is an older post about stealth in Dungeon World. It doesn’t use any new moves, it just explains how the existing DM moves can be used for stealthy encounters.

A challenge for anyone who has read or (especially) played #FourthWorld, my “drift” of Dungeon World to the setting of Earthdawn: you have to remove two talents from each playbook. Nothing will replace them. Which do you cut?

I’m running a game for just my partner. We’ve played together before, but it’s been awhile. Does anyone else run two player Dungeon World (1pc, 1gm)? Tips? I’m aware of the legacy weapon, but something about it doesn’t interest me.

Have you ever implemented some blanket damage to all players just to account for general bumps and bruises in warfare? Kind of like Scarlett Heroes, but in reverse?

I’m having trouble running creatures with reach attacks.

I’m having trouble running creatures with reach attacks.

I’m having trouble running creatures with reach attacks. How would you handle a character that is up against, say, a goblin with a long spinning chain?

Is it defy danger to see if you get inside the goblins wheelhouse without getting slashed AND THEN roll H&S?

Can your player just take the hit and run in to H&S? If so, what if they roll 7-9?

Once the player gets past the chain (regardless of how), do you just let them deal their dmg dice since the goblin’s range is reach and isn’t very effective for upclose fighting?

Etc.

Let me know how you generally deal with this kind of scene.
