Hey, Tavern,

I am working on this encounter checklist for an upcoming game where I am running +Ray Otus ‘ #Kazarak from his #Plundergrounds zine.

Just based on the titles, do you think these encounters come up on the right rolls in a 2d6 distribution?

Thanks!

Filling out the Encounters in the Escaping Kazarak Encounter Checklist

I finished out the list of encounters in my check list and now I am putting in the details, monster stat blocks and custom moves as necessary.

Here’s my current list and the rolls that will evoke them:

2 ▶ Gelatinous Cube Street Cleaner

3 ▶ Cargo Hauler Coaster

4 ▶ Sinkhole!

5 ▶ Rust Monster Stampede

6 ▶ Star Bears to the Rescue

7 ▶ Tidal Wave of Mice

8 ▶ Derro Deserters

9 ▶ Constructs Run Amok

10 ▶ Spectral Funeral Procession

11 ▶ Web of Woe

12 ▶ Waterfall of Treasure

I’m not sure they are in the right place (occur on the right random roll, given a 2d6 distribution). I welcome any suggestions.

Quick signal boost for my August adventure. It’s not linked to any of my previous adventures so it might be a nice jumping-in point. Also it’s in DL (narrow) format mostly cos it looks cool 🙂

Even more work on the Escaping Kazarak Encounter List: The Tidal Wave of Mice

So I worked on the Tidal Wave of Mice encounter. I think it could be fun, but I don’t know if it should be at number 7.

Tidal Wave of Mice

A tidal wave of mice, more mice than you have ever seen in your life, comes rushing out of every open crevice and from the path behind you. The scurrying mass has only one agenda, escape! The party stands between it and the exit. Have each character describe how they are going to react to this situation and roll Defy Danger plus the appropriate modifier based on their description. On a 10+, they succeed! Describe what happens.

On a 7 – 9, choose 1, On a 6-, choose 2:

+ They lose their footing and are trampled by the mice, slowing their progress. The Hillar and Eyrok demon battle will take an additional turn ignoring one call to roll on this checklist before the characters progress. If called for, the titan still takes d6 damage and loses 2 sacrifice.

+ They stumble and drop a random item that is carried away by the rush of mice. Have the players write down their most treasured item they have on them. Roll d6 to identify the item carried away:

+ 1 – 1 Dungeon rations use

+ 2 – Shield or helmet

+ 3 – Weapon or instrument in hand

+ 4 – Book or scroll

+ 5 – Potion

+ 6 – Most treasured item

+ They fall and are carried away on the mouse wave and eventually deposited in some random corner of Kazarak. They must make an additional roll on the Escaping Kazarak Encounter Checklist in order to return to the party. These encounters are not checked off if escaped or resolved by the character.

Does anyone have sources, suggestions or ideas for engaging less combat oriented characters in a Dungeon World setting?

Although I have no issues in coming up with exciting combat encounters, somehow I struggle far more with coming up with interesting scenario’s that still present some sort of challenge to my players but don’t necessarily involve sticks and swords (or traps. Traps are really only fun up till a point).

I have a few players that lean more towards Roleplaying and less towards Gaming. While they have been going along with my seemingly endless strings of combat I’d love to change things up a bit to give them more chance to shine in non-combat environments.

All input is appreciated!

Escaping Kazarak Encounter Checklist

I am going to be running Ray Otus’ #Karazark dungeon starter from issue 2 of his #Plundergrounds #DungeonWorld zine. If you haven’t already seen it or joined his Patreon (http://parteon.com/rayotus) to get a copy you should. Or you can wait for the collected annual that will be available as print on demand sometime early next year.

The Kazarak dungeon starter sets up a really cool final scene, complete with a really evocative custom move, that plays out a climactic battle between a giant dwarven mech construct and an awakened world devouring demon. It’s really cool!

As I am preparing this as a one shot for my son’s birthday, I wanted to spice up their character’s run for safety as the battle between the mech and demon topples the underground city around them. To that aim, I am started working on an Escaping Kazarak Encounter Checklist.

So far, I am thinking about including the following encounters:

# Goblin Raiding Party

# Rust Monster Stampede

# Tidal Wave of Mice

# Constructs Run Amok

I’ll be filling each encounter with descriptions, stats, and custom moves as needed.

Has anyone seen any new dw material come through drivethru or Kickstarter that they are excited about?
