So my Compendium Compilation has been out for a while and I was wondering how everyone has been liking it? Do you have any stories from your games involving any of the classes or any feedback on how the moves work or if they are broken in any way? Let me know!

So in my spare time I have started making a sort of monster manual for Dungeon World. I decided to split it up into different documents based on the types of monsters in them (Aberrations, Fey, Dragons, etc). I have a couple of questions for you all.

Would you want the flavor text to be kind of anecdotal, and from a single traveling adventurer’s perspective, or would you rather it be more matter of fact information. The difference being that, while I have a stat block for each monster, the adventurer would only have information from his own experience or information he gathered from other sources, while the matter of fact version would give specific info, more like a D&D monster manual.

Would you think a handful of dungeon starters using some of the monsters would be good, or would you rather have a subsection with each monster that had short examples of how to implement them into a story?

Would you want a separate section with items that could be made from some of the monsters or do you think most people wouldn’t need something like that? Maybe a mix of uses for certain ones, like if some can be mounted or trained?

Any other suggestions would be welcome as well!

Well I finally just bit the bullet and decided to publish something.

Well I finally just bit the bullet and decided to publish something. I am excited to announce that my Compendium Compilation is available on Drivethru RPG! Some of you may remember the Monster Hunter compendium class that was mentioned in Discern Realities. Well it is in there, plus 12 other compendium classes of my own design! Since this is my first, feedback is greatly appreciated as it will help me develop better projects in the future. Thanks in advance to any who decide to pick it up!

Is there an expanded list of equipment for Dungeon World anywhere?

Is there an expanded list of equipment for Dungeon World anywhere? I was trying to figure out stats for stuff like bolas, slingshots and more modern weapons like assault rifles. I figure if it’s been done I wouldn’t try to reinvent the wheel.

So last night my players got lost in the jungle due to a failed trailblazing roll. I decided to pull out the Chaos Temple I had been holding onto for a random encounter. They get there and immediately notice strange things (flies eating a dead spider, vegetation growing in the shadows instead of the light, etc). They make camp in the foyer to get out of the rain a failed Take Watch roll gets the druid taken in her sleep. The other two characters go looking for her, finding torches with blue flame that was cold to the touch. The torches eventually casted shadows instead of light, while everything that was outside of the torch “light” was illuminated well enough to see by… well nothing.

The druid awoke to a disembodied voice laughing and talking about how it had been forgotten and wanted her to be it’s friend. One of the grinning ape statues disappeared and then reappeared as a living creature that shapeshifted into other animals as it spoke to her. She found out its name is Ozo and it’s some sort of god of chaos. It gave her a necklace with a gold amulet carved in it’s likeness. I know I want to make the amulet do random things, based off a d100 table. What are some chaotic things it could do? I want there to be good, bad, and just plain silly effects in the mix. I saw the wild magic table for 5e and thought of using some of those, but I don’t want it to be caster focused since she is a druid.

Thoughts?

I had an epiphany while looking at the cleric class.

I had an epiphany while looking at the cleric class. It astounds me that I can still find hidden things in Dungeon World after all this time. So, I present my character concept, using the cleric to create a fictionally similar, yet different class.

The Monk

(I would advise speaking with your DM to make sure using your fists can still deal your class damage, at least with magic weapon cast on them. Otherwise, I would use the staff or another monk-like weapon.)

Race: Human (Chosen spell: Magic Missile)

Alignment: Lawful

Stats: Focus on WIS and DEX with the third best stat in CON.

Deity Domain: Whatever suits you (I will choose The Downtrodden and Forgotten)

Precept: Suffering

Divine Guidance

Turn Undead: Prayer Beads

Commune

Cast a Spell (Key Spells: Magic Weapon, Bless, Magic Missile [Ki Blast], Healing Spells, Harm, possibly Hold Person)

Starting Gear: Dungeon Rations, Symbol of the divine (Prayer Beads), Chainmail (can wear until you get divine protection or disregard it entirely), Staff and bandages, Healing potion.

Advanced Moves (2-5)

2: Divine Protection (classic monk ability)

3: Serenity (to keep magic weapon or bless up)

4: Divine Intervention for those matrix style dodges (or Empower for better Magic Missile damage or better healing)

5: Penitent (goes with my deity’s precept)

Advanced Moves (6-10)

6: Martyr (for those powerful Magic Missile counter attacks or a big heal)

7: Divine Invincibility (or Greater Empower)

8: Providence (to keep magic weapon and bless up)

9: Apotheosis (for flavor, or choose something else like Chosen One for Magic Missile as a Rote)

10: Divine Armor or Multiclass Dabbler for a monkish move from another class.

Obviously there is a lot of room for customization depending on the type of monk you want to play. I just thought it was a cool “what here is not what it appears to be” type of thing. What do you all think?

So, random question.

So, random question.

So, random question. Has anyone ever dealt with a wizard polymorphing themself? The spell states that it lasts until they cast another spell and if the GM doesn’t choose the “unstable” option, they are possibly stuck in whatever form they took. I dunno, sounded like an interesting story arch to return the wizard to normal.

I ran a game of Dungeon World using the Plane Shift: Amonkhet setting from Magic: The Gathering.

I ran a game of Dungeon World using the Plane Shift: Amonkhet setting from Magic: The Gathering. They are made for D&D, but it mainly has info on the world and just suggests monsters to use to represent the monsters of that world, so it’s pretty easy to convert to DW. I would recommend them as an option for one shots or even full fledged campaigns.

Here is an item from the magical item list I mentioned yesterday. Its just one of the 200+ magic items I am converting from D&D for Dungeon World. The finished product will have random tables for the GMs who just like to let fate decide what magic items his/her players get. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this free sample: The Marvelous Pigments!

Marvelous Pigments; 3 uses, 1 weight

Created by a mage who was gifted in both arcane and classical art, anything you paint with them will become real. Painting a door on a wall allows you to pass through it. Painting a feast makes real, edible food. When you paint a creature, place, or object with the marvelous pigments, spend 1 use and roll:

• +1 if you have something to reference.

• +1 if you use high quality art brushes.

• +1 if you have plenty of time and don’t rush.

• +1 if you have an artistic background.

On a 10+ the painting is a masterpiece! When

it becomes real, it is as if it were the original subject in every way. On a 7-9 it looks real enough, but upon close inspection some flaws and imperfections can be seen (painted food tastes a bit off, a person may have strange

proportions, etc).

So I’m making a document, mainly for myself but I will put it up on drive thru for others to use, of 200+ magic items converted from D&D to use for Dungeon World, complete with random treasure tables to roll on. I am making a couple different “_____ Slayer” items that are meant to deal with certain kinds of creatures. My question to the group is, would the weapon dealing more damage to that certain creature be appropriate? Or would something else be better? I thought maybe just ignoring any defenses of the creature would be good, but then I thought of giants wearing armor and it not making sense for a weapon to ignore their armor. Right now I just have them dealing 2d6 additional damage, but I thought that may be boring.

I also considered something like this:

When you strike a creature this weapon was made to kill, on a hit (7+) you deal an additional 1d6 damage. On a 7-9, the creature also realizes the nature of the weapon and acts accordingly. On a 12+ the creature is instantly slain.

Is killing the creature outright on a 12+ too powerful? Say for like, a dragon or something similar. Let me know what you all think!
