So, I have 2 games lined up this weekend (my first 2) of Dungeon World.  For one, I chose the Bard.  Since I’m not going to sing/play an instrument constantly during play, any clever takes on the Bard? As far as their fit within the party, I’m unsure how to progress them.  I chose a dueling rapier and thought about modeling him after Will Scarlet.  Lastly, this seems like a good pick to dabble as a Multi-class.  Any recommendations?

  1. I love your idea of a dueling “will scarlet” Bard.

If you play an instrument, I would suggest a horn before a charge against foes.

And for bards who like dueling. Take advanced moves like

meet up with a character you met take + 1 against them

use charming and open to ask “how are you vulnerable to me?”

duelist parry and block of course

multicass fighter, thief, or ranger moves

    Have fun

  2. I was actually thinking of a violin-style instrument that my bard could play with the rapier as the bow (the stick you play a violin with).  I actually had the idea that instead of playing anything in real life, I could play a sound clip of “Promentory” which is the theme song from “The Last of the Mohicans” which I always thought was a really cool song.

  3. I’ve never understood the concept of a bards player having to sing or play something. Unless the GM is making the wizards player throe real balls of fire and the cleric go say 20 hail Mary’s it’s bizarre

  4. That’s what I struggled with when trying to concept a Bard that made sense.  I ended up settling on the dueling bard.  He’s an expert swordmaster and he found this arcane crafted violin which magnifies it’s sound, but it was without a bow and strings.  He had strings crafted and enchanted and he plays it with his rapier.  He’s so talented with a violin and with a sword that he can utilize both as natural as breathing.  This is the only way a Bard made sense to me.

  5. My first actual game is this weekend, so I’ll be sure to follow up here with how it went.  There’s 6 people in this game and it’s feeling a lot like a one-shot, so I”m not sure how much relevant feel I’ll get from it.

  6. Because of the high amount of multi-class advanced moved the bard can takes you can dabble into a bunch of stuff.  However, getting the cleric abilities is one way to go.  I believe you have to get it level 3 though.
