Hey folks

Hey folks

Hey folks,

I just recently started a flesh-and-blood Dungeon World game based out of Modern Myths in Easthampton Mass. As of right now we have 3 players, but are looking for up to three more to flesh out the party.

The game itself is a darker spin on fantasy inspired by the likes of Neil Gaiman and Game of Thrones with a bit of sword and sorcery thrown in there for spice. The campaign is set in the currently-fragmenting Akkadian empire, based on the early to mid-middle ages kingdom of Ethiopia with plenty of opportunities for intrigue, adventure, and a more than a little bit of dark sorcery and bloody violence.

If anyone’s interested in signing up, let me know! Our next game will be this upcoming Friday at Modern Myths at 6pm. New players are welcome, and feel free to bring your friends!

Another custom move for my Black Company/Game of Thrones inspired DW game for those folks who want to play Littlefinger and run a business.

When you attend to the workings of a business at the beginning of each session or during downtime roll +Int

On a 10+ Choose 2

·         Your business expands into new markets +1 Profit

·         Your business gains the attention of a useful ally or patron.

·         Your business earns you 1d6 coin per point of profit it possesses.

On a 7-9 Choose 2 from the above list, but there’s a problem too that’s disrupting business as usual. Deal with it or watch your business suffer.

On a 6- Your business suffers a nasty setback. -1 Proft and unless you deal with the problem that faces it, expect it to suffer more.

A new business requires at least 50 Coin to start along with workers to partake in it and starts at 0 Profit. If you invest 100 Coin +100 Coin per point of Profit your Business currently has into your business, increase it’s Profit by 1. Adding significant fictional improvements (like replacing your workers with tireless golem slaves or conjured demons) will also increase profit, but may have other repercussions.

When you send minions, toadies, or servants afar to accomplish your will with the appropriate tools and skills roll +Cha if it’s a simple direct order, +Wis if it’s a long term plan, or +Int if it’s part of a long and elaborate scheme.

On a 10+ They’ll do it for you without problem or complaint.

On a 7-9 They’ll do it for you but you’ll need to give them aid, support, or motivation if you want them to do it properly.

6- They make things worse through incompetence, ill-fortune, or rebellion.

I was also trying to brainstorm something along the lines of a “When you make your first appearance at court” move, for those characters that might try elevating themselves by their bootstraps into the ranks of the nobility. The move would cover the sort of impression they make, the attention they attract, and how aware they are of the scheming sna…I mean respectable and upright nobles of the court.

Any thoughts on that?

Hey folks. Having just moved to the east coast and being in desperate need of a gaming group, I was was looking to recruit 3-5 players for a biweekly Dungeon World game in the Easthampton/Northampton MA area.

The basic tone would be very A Song of Ice and Fire meets the Black Company with a bit of Neil Gaiman’s work mixed in there for creepy supernatural awesomeness.

The kingdom is dying. The king, a conqueror that forged a kingdom out of perpetually feuding city states is old and grows more senile every day. The court is full of parasites, plucking the strings of his family’s ruler ship and picking the treasury clean in equal measure.

In the countryside the merchant princes and princesses of the subjugated city states have gone to war, each convinced that in these twilight hours of the Akkadian empire that they can claim it’s crown. Old grudges have spurred this war as much as greed; the old king and his family came as brutal conquerors and reigned as tyrants.

The flames of revolution and rebellion cast a dark shadow. The forces of Hell have found that desperation for a new order breeds wickedness and weakness like nothing else and the soldiers of the would-be merchant kings keep carefully to their fires, lest they be seized by the riders of the Wild Hunt.

Players would take on the role of an organization with a stake in the future of this dying Kingdom. The type of organization is up in the air: a mercenary company, a band of rebels fighting for a new way, a cabal of sorcerers attempting to fulfill a dark prophecy, a street gang fighting for their lives as the city’s gutters run with blood. That’s up in the air, to be discussed as everyone creates during the first session.

That there’ll be loads of player-driven drama, intrigue, and bloody violence is not.

Anyone in the area interested? If you are, contact me jtjessop88@gmail.com or via skype at jtjessop88 so that we can discuss a time and date to meet at Modern Myths in Northampton for character burning and a first session.

So here’s another base class I’ve designed for my upcoming grim-and-gritty fantasy game set in Widow’s Landing, a class from 3.5 that I always loved the flavor of, even though I was underwhelmed by it’s mechanics: The Hexblade. Let me know what you think!

On a 10+ Choose 2

*They do it without getting in over their head

*They don’t resent you for it

*They do it right away, instead of at the last possible minute

On a 7-9 Choose 1

On a 6- You’re a meddlesome old fogey, and they’ll act out just to spite you.

When you try to decode the mumblings of Thrice-Drunk Winston first make sure you’re drunk yourself. You’re drunk? Okay, good… then roll +the number of bars you’ve gotten roaring drunk in tonight (max +3).

On a 10+ Choose 2

*You’re able to decipher advice that proves strangely relevant to your current problem.

*His drunken ramblings gird you for what is to come. This counts as 1 preparation for whatever great task you’re party is trying to accomplish

*You don’t pass out soon after Winston finishes dispensing his incomprehensible wisdom.

On a 7-9 choose 1, or choose 2 and accept that your visit with the drunken sage will be interrupted by a massive bar fight. He’ll finish what he was saying after the fists, knives, and flagons stop flying.

What do you guy’s/gals/folks of non-binary gender(s) think? A couple of custom moves that I’ve been kicking around for a DW game I have planned that will begin in a piss-stain of an old fishing town, turned shelter for the families of slain soldiers, turned back into a piss-stain of an old fishing town called Widow’s Landing.

So guys, gals, and folks of non-binary gender persuasions I’ve been looking for feedback on a custom class I’ve been developing for a player who was utterly in love with the Binder class from 3.5 and who is interested in joining a DW game that I may be starting up in the near future.

My inspirations for the DW Binder are a combination of the Goetic rites you see in the Lesser Key of Solomon, the freaky unnatural spirits detailed in 3.5’s treatment of Binders, a dash of lovecraft, and then a general seasoning of “caller up of dark and dangerous entities”. Distinct from the wizard in that the Binder’s power is very much externalized, and distinct from the Warlock in that the Binder gains power from control, whereas the Warlock gains power from surrender.

Let me know what you think. Of the moves, of the class in general, of it’s power level compared to the other classes, how fun it seems it’d be to play, and it’s thematic consistency. Also, if anyone wishes to assist me in writing a pithy introductory paragraph for the Binder, that would be most appreciated.
