A custom move for my Game of Thrones/Black Company inspired Dungeon World game. Hopefully I’ll have enough players to make it work…

When you send minions, toadies, or servants afar to accomplish your will with the appropriate tools and skills roll +Cha if it’s a simple direct order, +Wis if it’s a long term plan, or +Int if it’s part of a long and elaborate scheme.

On a 10+ They’ll do it for you without problem or complaint.

On a 7-9 They’ll do it for you but you’ll need to give them aid, support, or motivation if you want them to do it properly.

6- They make things worse through incompetence, ill-fortune, or rebellion.

I was also trying to brainstorm something along the lines of a “When you make your first appearance at court” move, for those characters that might try elevating themselves by their bootstraps into the ranks of the nobility. The move would cover the sort of impression they make, the attention they attract, and how aware they are of the scheming sna…I mean respectable and upright nobles of the court.

Any thoughts on that?

  1. I second Tim Franzke suggestion. Also I would suggest to put the minions move retroactive. Like:

When you think that plausibly you have sent some minions to do the dirty job roll+ ….

You sent them in any case, but with 10+ you hold 3, with 7-9 you hold 1. You can spend one hold to have your minion show up, or to have a part of your master plan happen. On 6- you sent them, but it is up to the GM what happened, and you will find out only when it is too late.

  2. For the reputation move, how about something like…

When you make your first grand appearance at court, roll plus CHA. On a 10+, name one person present who will be your ally and one who will be your enemy. On a 7-9, you choose one and the GM chooses one.

  3. I really like that. Simple, evocative, and really good at setting up PC/NPC triangles. Particularly if several PCs make their appearance at court simultaneously and so and so’s enemy is another PC’s ally.
