From the bard: Devious: When you use charming and open you may also ask “How are you vulnerable to me?” Your subject may not ask this question of you.

Should I be interpreting that as “Add ‘How are you vulnerable to me?’ to the of options” or “You can ask a question from the normal list and you may additionally ask ‘How are you vulnerable to me?'”?  I could see arguments for either interpretation.

Barbarian Outsider Questions

I enjoy the Barbarian’s Outsider racial move. However, I’m finding I’m running a bit thin on questions for the Barbarian in my group. Any suggestions or existing lists?

Here’s what I’ve used so far (omitting followup questions that only make sense for his character):

– Why did you leave your people?

– What is taboo to your people?

– What weapons do your people typically use?

– What is your people’s land like?

– How do your people look differently from “civilized” people here?

– What do your people do that “civilized” people find distasteful or taboo?

– How do your people treat magic?

A few of my favorite answers from our group’s Barbarian:

– Why did you leave your people? The tribe used to be warlike, but has since settled into a peaceful, prosperous existance. Young adults still felt the need to prove themselves, so now they’re sent out on rumspringa to minimize in-tribe violence.

– What is taboo to your people? Allowing someone else to write your name; it grants them power over you. Everyone can write their own name, spouses can write each others, and parents can write their children’s.

I’m looking for a compelling elevator pitch for Dungeon World.  If there is a good one in the Kickstarter or the official site, I’m not seeing it.  “A game with modern rules and old-school style” is nifty, but “modern rules” doesn’t explain much.  This is for pitching to people at Games on Demand at Gen Con.  I’m looking for something in the 25-90 word range.  I can ramble on in person about what I love, but I’m having a hard time summarizing it.  I’m interested in any suggestions.

Here is what I currently have, but am not happy with:

“Original D&D meets modern narratively focused RPGs featuring fluid gameplay, cinematic combat, and intertwined characters and world.”

Compendium Class: Drink Deeply

Compendium Class: Drink Deeply

I originally posted this looking for feedback, but I never posted what I ended up with.  So here is “Drink Deeply,” a compendium class.

There is a lot left implied on the sheet, partially because it’s obvious in my campaign, and partially because there is supposed to be uncertainty and mystery.  The class is essentially for Maenads, the savage, drunken followers of Dionysus (most obvious in the Join/Lead the Party moves). The equivalent goddess in my game is Malini, and she also comes with a dash of the otherworldly; which is why Comprehend the Path.  Host the Party comes with a pile of campaign specific baggage.

Obviously, taking this class is a terrible idea.  Equally obviously, two of my PCs have taken it.  I love Dungeon World so much.

A character has potentially bound herself with a powerful entity.

A character has potentially bound herself with a powerful entity. Specifically, Malini, a sort of Bacchus as avatar of an chaos deity. Giving this connection mechanical weight seems like a good fit for a compendium class.

Looking around at the creations of others, nothing leapt out as good fits, but there is a good chance I’m overlooking many.  Are there any relevant compendium classes that I might use directly or borrow parts from?

I’ve started drafting up a compendium class. The moves I have seem interesting and hopefully tempting to me.  I would welcome feedback on what I have.
