The Sorcery has completed another iteration. I feel a lot better about this version, I think it’s in a playable state, and once the moves get a little more refined it may be ready for publishing.

There’s nearly a class’ worth of moves in the scrap heap, but here’s one that I think would be fun to play with and is currently part of the class.

Psychadelic Sorcery

When you expose yourself to a questionable hallucinatory substance and bring your hallucinations to life, roll+Con. On a 10+, describe your bizarre hallucinations and what they do when they manifest. On a 7-9, describe your hallucinations, but your altered state of mind disturbs your Sorcery, take 1 ongoing to your Sorcery until you’re straight. On a 6, it’s a bad trip, the GM will describe what you’ve exposed everyone to.

Continuing work on The Sorcerer. It’s getting closer!

The Sorcerer has undergone a substantial rewrite, and a lot has been moved to the scrap heap. The new focus is on emotions, their link to Sorcery, and a touch of precognitive dreams. I’m about 6 moves short though, so I’m fishing for ideas.

I added a section that suggests possible applications for talents related to certain emotions as a way of explaining the possible scope of the Sorcerer’s magic, but I’m not sure if it’s too restrictive or provides direction and guidance.

The Sorcerer has probably had the most change and iterative rewrites since I did the Spellslinger, which is interesting. I wonder if it’s the nature of caster-types or if it’s just taken me longer to pin down an archetype with these two classes than the Fae, Fool, and Giant.

I’m currently doing a major overhaul of The Sorcerer, since I got some inspiration on what to focus their fiction on.

I’m currently doing a major overhaul of The Sorcerer, since I got some inspiration on what to focus their fiction on. It’s basically magical hormonal teenager with poor impulse control and a temptation to use your power selfishly.

I’m adding comments on the changes I make so I can keep track of my design thought process. Feel free to make comments of your own!

The Sorcerer is getting closer. The starting moves are approaching functional, and they have advanced move upgrades. The class still needs a lot of flavor and advanced moves not related to the starting moves.

The final may have two versions with the different styles of backgrounds, but I’m as yet undecided.

5 days left on my October sale. Pick up the Fae, Spellslinger, Fool, and Giant for $1 each!

I’m also happy to talk about the classes themselves, or making classes in general.

I’ve loved Dungeon World from the first time I read it, and playing it inspired me to write 4 player classes with unique fictional hooks to drive your game in new and interesting ways.

I love that the character you choose can so dramatically change what the game will be about, and have tried to experiment and push this idea with my playbooks. I like the flexibility so much, many of the playbooks I’ve made have alternate versions to reflect different archetypes of the classes. Are you a big friendly giant, or a giant jerk? Is your spellslinger more fantasy, or the good, the bad, and the ugly Wild West?

It was recently my birthday, and I wanted to offer my playbooks at a discount to the dungeon world community that’s given such great support to all of its creators! So for the month of October, all of my playbooks are just $1 from drivethru rpg.

Today is National Coming Out Day.

Today is National Coming Out Day.

Today is National Coming Out Day. This is simultaneously a wonderful and stressful day for some of us; we’re bolstered by the words of our peers and allies, but also feel the pressure of whether it’s the right time to come out. I respect everyone no matter the choice they make today. Only you can decide for yourself if or when the time is right.

To celebrate National Coming Out Day and help a project very dear to myself, I will be donating all profits from copies of Last Stand sold today to The Trevor Project.

When the horror of fighting has become too much, and you swear to lay down your arms and do no violence again in your life, gain the following moves immediately.

In the name of Peace

You have a new stat: Peace. Peace starts at 0, but can be raised to +3 or lowered to -3. Each time you roll +Peace, reduce the Peace stat after you have resolved the move.

Suffering Paragon

When you suffer harm without violently resisting, gain 1 Peace.

The Vow

When you choose to stand by and not intervene with violence to stop another’s suffering, gain 2 Peace.

Open Palm

When you peacefully stand firm to defend a place, person, or ideal in the face of violence or opposition, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your resolve causes the aggressor to back off. On a 7-9, they hesitate, or look for support from subordinates or superiors, the GM will tell you how.

Voice of Reason

When you speak passionately for finding a peaceful resolution to a tense, charged situation, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your words move hearts and minds, and the situation calms down. On a 7-9, Your words need some action or sacrifice to give them enough meaning – the GM will tell you what.

Breaking Point

When you forgo your vow of nonviolence and attack someone, roll+Peace. On a 10+, your soul is stained by your disregard of your vow, lose all Pacifist moves and never take them again. In addition, you are now known as an oathbreaker wherever you go. On a 7-9, your actions are understandable, but shake your belief in your cause, set your Peace to 3. On a 6, you justify your actions as necessary and right in this circumstance at least.
