The Virtuous, a hack of the paladin that is focussed on virtues instead of religion. Not yet tested (first test session is tonight). Backgrounds are inspired by Chinese culture (to fit my player’s concept for her character).

I need to give credits to the peeps from #WorldofAdventure because I’ve stolen quite a few moves from their Paladin playbook, and then some here and there (The Samurai and The Fated Hero), although I think I didn’t keep any from these 2 “as is”.

I got a new player who want to play a honorable, courageous Asian inspired warrior with a strong morality (think Mulan).

What playbook would you suggest? My reflex was paladin but I don’t think she wants to go on the religious side.

The fighter playbook doesn’t especially have anything about being honorable.

There are interesting stuff in the Fated hero but god it’s broken!

Hmm, the Priest (or #worldofadventures ‘s Cleric for that matter) ask to define your religion with these questions.

What do they Control (the sun, the seas, the skies, etc.)?

What do they Represent (love, death, war, wind, etc.)?

Who are their Worshippers (nobles, dwarves, wizards, etc.)?

Who are their Enemies (demons, undead, heretics, etc.)?

What are their Demands (sacrifices, secrets, victories, etc.)?

I feel like these questions don’t fit my setting as my gods all represent broader concepts, virtually everyone in the world are polytheist, they don’t have defined enemies or friends and they don’t really demand anything. If anything, they are more like ideologies and people interpret them how they like (hence the existence of numerous churches of the same god that have different beliefs and rites… much like we see with Christians, Protestants, Baptists, Anglicans, Puritants and whatnots).

So I came up with a set of different questions.

Here’s with an example.

Name: Ur

What do they Represent?

The eternal cycle of life and death.

What is one of their Gospel?

For one life taken, one should be given.

What is one of their Rite?

Proper burial of friend or foe by burying them in soil.

I feel like it’s missing 1 or 2 other but I can’t think of something interesting.

Does the Hivemind have ideas?

Worked out the maths if anyone interested for the DW coins equivalent for each wealth level.

A handful of coppers = 5 coins

A purse of coppers = 15 coins

A handful of silvers = 45 coins

A purse of silvers = 135 coins

A handful of gold = 405 coins

A purse of gold = 1,215 coins

I’m working on the Sacred Gun compendium class, essentially a class inspired by Equilibrium’s Grammaton Cleric, by Isaac Ivan from the Priest korean manga, Boondock Saints, Warhammer’s Witch Hunter and such other religious-themed badass hero with guns.

It’s for fantasy setting so guns here is a fuzzy concept, I see mainly 1-shot flintlock pistols (in my mind, the character would have multiple guns on them).

So far I’ve maintly stole and adapted moves from the gunlinger playbooks but I wanted more custom and religious themed moves. I was wondering if the Hivemind had great ideas.

That’s what I have so far:

What playbook is closest to the d&d 5e sorcerer? Here’s their description :

Magic is a part of every sorcerer, suffusing body, mind, and spirit with a latent power that waits to be tapped. Some sorcerers wield magic that springs from an ancient bloodline infused with magic. Others carry a raw, uncontrolled magic within them, a chaotic storm that manifests in unexpected ways.

I’ve checked some elementalist playbooks but they’re meh.

I’m still dissatisfied with Undertake a Perilous Journey.

I’m still dissatisfied with Undertake a Perilous Journey. For whatever reason, none of the modifications to the move I’ve read or created seems to click for me.

Then it came to me today. Why not just ask for plain Defy Danger?

I know, right? How innovative! If I’m dumb enough not to have thought about it before, I guess its worth mentioning XD.

Here’s the modified move:

Undertake a Perilous Journey

When you travel through dangerous lands, indicate the course you’d like to take. The GM will determine how many days the party travels before reaching the next point of interest, describe the scene and tell you to mark a number of rations. Then, each character describes what he does to help the party reach its destination and avoid dangers along the way and roll Defy Danger.

Point of interest here is a catchall term for any Danger, Discovery, Dungeon or Steading that the party will stumble upon, whether it’s randomly rolled through Perilous Wilds or a prepared encounter. It can also be a simple event such as “After X days, you only have 1 day of ration each and decide to make Camp” which would certainly lead the characters to Forage or otherwise do something about it (eat their horse… they’ll definitely eat their horses).

I’m always forgetting about +1 Forwards / Ongoing.

I’m always forgetting about +1 Forwards / Ongoing.

I’ve heard about City of Judas’ Advantage Dice and I think it’s a great way to keep track of bonuses.

Here’s how I plan on using it, I need a sanity check to make sure it would actually work without hassle.

When you gain +1 Forward, instead, take +1 on the Advantage Die (AD). If you gain +1 Ongoing, instead take +2 on the Advantage Dice. During any roll, you can replace the result of one die with the score on your AD. If you do so, reset your AD to 1. At the end of the session, reset the AD to 1.
