I got a new player who want to play a honorable, courageous Asian inspired warrior with a strong morality (think Mulan).

What playbook would you suggest? My reflex was paladin but I don’t think she wants to go on the religious side.

The fighter playbook doesn’t especially have anything about being honorable.

There are interesting stuff in the Fated hero but god it’s broken!

  1. What about ranger? You can maybe replace one or two moves with Paladin. And the paladin’s religion, you should be able to swap that out for a moral code. Take out the external influence, the boon and power comes from inside them, when they’re the best they can be.

  2. I feel moral code is just about roleplaying and doesn’t need to be “hard coded”, and as Aaron Griffin mentioned, using an alignment trigger or flag can help showcase it: (Alignment) “Do what’s right, not what’s easy” or (Flag) “Offer me an easier solution that requires I violate my moral code”.

I also agree with Aaron that I’d use fighter. It’s obviously not the same, but I made a fighter-based monk simply by renaming the fighter’s moves and making no other changes. You may be able to do something similar for this character.

  3. Awful Good Games has an alternate Paladin that’s powered by Virtues and is really fun.

Their alternate Fighter is really good too.

Basically I like all their playbooks better than the stock ones.

  4. I think I’m leaning on the “virtue” paladin from ToA. Do you have a suggestion of what I could replace the Lay on Hands with as healing doesn’t really fit the concept

  5. Addramyr Palinor Just a coincidence! For WoA I just wanted to emphasise the core tenents of the Paladin’s doctrine, rather than their latest quest.

For an alternative to Lay On Hands, that really depends on the character. Is there anything the Paladin lacks that the character idea requires, or would like to have?
