Trefang’s Skull

Close, Forceful, +2 damage, 1 piercing, 4 weight

Trefang’s Skull is an incredibly heavy one-handed mace that is made entirely of a dark matte metal that is always cold to the touch. The head of the mace is crafted to look like an human skull (to scale) riddled with spikes, and the shaft crafted to look like a metal impaling spike. The weapon appears to be crafted of a single piece of metal. It has no real handle or grip though, so it is often found with some leather hastily wrapped along the base of the impaling spike shaft. When drenched in the blood of enemies, the eyes of the skull begin to glow a deep necrotic red. And while Trefang’s Skull is in this state, primed with dark power, it can be used by the wielder to request a favor of Death. But once that favor is asked, if Death decides to bestow the favor, the wielder is bound by whatever price Death demands.

And i went: suuureeeee….?

So here is what i have:

These magic wooden rings are made by elven greensingers to be awarded to the champions of the elfqueens hunt during the night of the two moons. Their intricate carvings tell the story of the hunters exploits and the game she or he brought back. Their magic can be called upon to allow the wearer one act of perfect grace and dexterity. By rotating the ring around the finger one of its charges are spend and the ringbearer is filled with its magic. It is rare that such a ring caries more then 3 charges of magic.

It is also said that should ever a dwarf lay hands on such an item, no one would ever be able to defeat him.

How does that look to you?

I need some help with a magic item for my campaign.

I need some help with a magic item for my campaign. The players somehow saved The Grim Reaper’s (our god of Death and the Harvest) true love, and in return he gave the players a set of Reaper Gauntlets. The carrier collects the souls of those he slays in these gauntlets, and the idea was that when the player could offer these souls to the Reaper when Making Camp. In return, the reaper would give the character a favor or offer him a boon.

Problem is, I’m really not getting any ideas for these boons, except to allow the players an audience with a departed soul, any soul. Even one that has entered the Black Gate.

The gauntlets are supposed to work like this:

Reaper Gauntlets

The bearer of these gauntlets can collect the souls of the slain. Whenever the bearer kills a humanoid while wearing these gauntlets, they take 1 soul. When the bearer makes camp, he may offer all souls in the gauntlets and roll+souls offered. On 10+ choose one. On a 7-9 choose one, but Death finds the offering measly and demands a favor in return.

– Gain an audience with any departed soul or Death. You may ask three questions they must answer truthfully.

– Ignore the damage from the next blow that would bring you to 0 hp.

– Remove a debility from a yourself or an ally.

On a miss, Death is insulted by your offering, and you must pay the price. The GM will tell you what this entails.

Does anyone have further ideas? I really want to draw on the “Harvest” domain of the god, but I can’t think of anything.

I’ll start:

Tooth Tonic: This potion tastes chalky and smells like saliva. Within a couple of weeks after imbibing, the drinker grows a new tooth. No guarantees where the tooth will come in, and no refunds! (Todurk’s Tooth Tonic Inc. not responsible for pain and suffering due to teeth growing from sensitive or unwanted areas. If you need a tooth removed, please consult your dentist. Side effects may include: headaches, teething pain, shifting of bodily features to accommodate new tooth growth, and lack of appetite.)

+1 sword

Mundane swords only cut your meat suit on a material plane. Lots of pain, but most of the times it can be healed. But those deadly weapons swing through higher plane of existence as well.  How would you undo the harm to your very life essence?

+2 sword will cut through three planes at once and hack the soul to pieces, and so forth.

OK, this might actually happen; my players have found a soul jar and are trying to capture the soul of a dragon lich…

It was casually floating around the dungeon, waiting to be resurrected by an out of town lich lord, when the players barged in. Needless to say, they found its skeleton, and they discovered its plan (Charm Person on cultists was really, really hilarious) so the cleric cast Speak with the Dead on it, and discovered how to trap it, and where the soul jar was.

They will probably succeed in this, and the soul jar will probably become a custom magic item. The thing is; what should it do? I have some ideas, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on this 🙂

Mechanical question – I’ve been thinking about a magic bow – one that hits a terrible hit on every target (maybe messy, best damage of 3 rolls?) but negatively effects the party. I want the devastating efficiency of this bow to bring everyone down, to make them feel demoralized and hopeless at all the killing.

Is there a mechanism where I could say, “Damage b[3d6], the following two rolls by other PCs take -2”? This would create an interesting dynamic where the archer would love this bow but the party would be begging them to stop using it. Kind of a cool corrupting mechanic!

A simple idea for a steampunk boomerang (can’t think of a good name yet).

A simple idea for a steampunk boomerang (can’t think of a good name yet). The idea was that it can be a good cooperative tool, while allowing for some shenanigans. At the same time, I don’t like the possibility of automatic damage on a PC. Ideas?

A mechanical boomerang with dials and razor sharp blades (I would have the PCs give more details). A quick calibration and power up sets the boomerang up for a guided trajectory.

Roll+INT. On a 10+ it deals damage to a target and returns safely to a secondary target. On 7-9, choose 1.

* The calibration wasn’t right. It hits its target and deals damage, but then lands somewhere else.

* The power setting wasn’t right. It accelerates and spins aggressively, dealing double damage to its target AND to the secondary target.
