“Heavy loads stone slung over shoulders, workers climb up the logs leading to the low-ceilinged cave leading to Kisima’s tomb. It’s not an easy climb, but the only other point of ingress, a stone shaft rising more than 70 feet to the surface, doesn’t leave a better option.”

I need a little help with the Front I’m working on for my Adventures On Dungeon Planet game.

On the Campaign Front I’ve got the the bigger dangers in place no problem. The Impending Dooms attached to them are overarching and large scale like they should be.

But then on the Adventure Front my instinct is to write in Dangers with Grim Portents that lead to an Impending Doom like “the party is stranded with no easy way out” or “the Orb stays in the wilderness where it belongs” instead of big broad Dooms like Impoverishment or Tyranny.

Does anyone use Dangers like that for more localized or party-specific consequences?

Hey guys, I put together some dangers and fronts for my recently started campaign.

Hey guys, I put together some dangers and fronts for my recently started campaign. Just wondering if anyone would like to have a look and critique them for me since this is my first go.

Feel free to borrow ideas or items as you like, I think there’s some cool ones in there.

Hi there, I’m pretty new to Dungeon World and have only recently got my group into and running it. First session we spent time making characters and learning rules, second session I borrowed an idea and made starting moves for the characters. This has set us up nicely with a couple of different adventures.

I’m now trying to put together my Fronts and I’m struggling to get the concept. I know I’m not supposed to be writing a lot of stuff out, but how much do I do?

For instance the characters are making their way to Mount Dread (thank the ranger for that), where on the highest peak lies the Temple of Stone Tears, an old and abandoned place belonging to the Lord of Light and Fire, Ragnarok (paladin’s deity). The paladin also received a scorched sword hilt and wishes to make the journey to this temple, in hopes to reforge the blade.

So we all know Mount Dread lives up to its name, we know there’s a temple somewhere near the top.

Do I go about populating the Mountain without asking them if they know anything?

When I asked the paladin why it was abandoned he said that there were only rumours of a danger from the mountain. Should I develop that into a front?

Any help would be great, thanks.

So: Grim Portents.

So: Grim Portents.

So: Grim Portents. Can they trigger offscreen, without the PCs knowing they triggered? I’ve always assumed that if they PCs aren’t present to observe a Portent, it can happen without them and they might find evidence of it and/or face the repercussions of it later. Or never find out it happened at all.

This has played out as me making a GM move by ticking a box on a list and not telling the players what just happened, and/or saying something like, “The wheels turn,” to let them know that their slowness or bad luck has allowed something bad to happen, but not telling them what.

Do Grim Portents always need to be on a scale where they are overtly announced, or can they tick off in the background?

I enjoy my DW group and I may have my own group this fall.

I enjoy my DW group and I may have my own group this fall. Since I haven’t been posting much or writing on my blog lately, I plan on working through my notes to create my campaign front. It is somewhat non-European Fantasy meets the East India Company meets flying ships.

One of the major features of the campaign front is the proliferation of libraries. The common folk are quite literate. The basis for the boom in books is the widespread use of a magical device that basically acts like a photocopier. In other words, what if Gutenburg invented a copier instead of a printing press.

One of the mechanical changes that result from this is a change to the Spout Lore basic move. A roll of 10+ is the same, but a roll from 7-9 results in finding out one true fact and one fact that may or may not be true.

If a character has access to a library, Spout Lore may not even be rolled, depending on the quality of the library. If it is rolled, the quality of the library will modify the roll.

More to come. Wish me luck. As always, anything I write is free.
