Last night my players asked if we could do an evil campaign. I told them I don’t have a problem playing an evil campaign, but I don’t like the idea of making a bunch of “normal” characters and slapping the evil alignment on them.

So I asked what they thought about playing a coven of hags, and they replied with a resounding “YES”.

Does anyone know of any good Witch or Hag playbooks out there?

Recently I found myself struggling with the “Down Time” moves in DW.

Recently I found myself struggling with the “Down Time” moves in DW.

Recently I found myself struggling with the “Down Time” moves in DW. Bolster, Recover, Supply, etc. are all fairly boring “non-moves” that just describe how things happen. There is no trigger, just a lot of GM handwaving when people come to a consensus that “yeah we take a few days off” (or shudder, a month). In addition, so many of the downtime moves are so straightforward, I thought they could just be combined into one comprehenseive move.

SO! I made an “R&R” party move! Let me know what you think!

“When your party takes some time off, roll + days spent. Every player should choose one from the list. Only one roll needs to happen for the entire party. Regardless of outcome, the party heals completely and can purchase any readily available items.

– Restful Care: On 10+, heal 2 debilities. On 7-9, heal 1 debility.

– Preparations: On 10+, gain 2 hold. Spend hold to add +1 to any roll (max +1). On 7-9, gain +1 forward.

– Shopping: On 10+, discover how to obtain a hard to get item. On 7 – 9, you discover something similar, but not quite what you wanted.

– Catching up: On a 10+, find someone you know. On 7-9, you find them, but things are complicated

Remember, your enemies don’t take time off. Things deteriorate without your intervention, but on a miss, your enemies make significant progress in their goals…”

After I MCing Dungeon World, Worlds in Peril, and The Sprawl, I feel keenly the importance of using Tags as fictional positioning and as an ingredient in MC moves. But sometimes, I forget to use (or don’t know how to use) them and just make a series of dull description. And I realize the story starts to go flat.

I love Tags because they fuse into the fiction seamlessly(which is the main reason why I switched my go-to system from Fate to PbtA. Sometimes, using Aspects feels artificial to me). But unlike Aspects, I find it very easy to forget to use Tags because there is no bonus or penalty to use Tags. They are only for fictional positioning.

So, how can I become proficient in using Tags as a MC? Could you share your tips?

For people who have played long campaigns in DW, how do you find the coin economy working out for you in the long-term? Are the PCs still going after coins, or have they become superfluous?

Help me brainstorm a better bargain from Death, please?

Help me brainstorm a better bargain from Death, please?

I had a druid whose primary forms were a bird of paradise and a “sapphire gorilla”, though he listed a few other creatures as well (including a python). He was swallowed whole by a giant serpent, the avatar of a serpent god. The serpent god was about sacrifices, and turning sacrifices into snake-like creatures, of course. 🙂

Death suggested the druid could return to the land of the living, if he swore himself to the serpent god, and lived in service of him. Without hesitation, he chose to die instead of serve such a god. The complete lack of hesitation told me I should’ve made the choice more difficult.

What would you have done? What better bargain could have been offered to make my sapphire druid friend think twice?
