As I work on my setting kickoff/module/thing, I’m looking at the core assumption I made that the “core classes” are effectively the gods of the setting (referred to as the Iconics), and pick people to be The Fighter or The Cleric and so on. Basically picking this generations heroes.

Then I thought…if those are the “good” gods (or at least the protagonist gods), who would be the “evil” ones? The antagonist gods? The negative archetypes? Would there/should there be one for each Iconic? “The Beast” who fights and destroys for its own sake as the reflection of The Fighter, who battles with cunning to protect?

This warrants further though.

Ran the second session of my DW game using the Innistrad MtG setting last night.  Our first session last week was some basic intro to RPGs (we have a first time player), character creation and a short fight.  To prep for this week, I found an evocative image, mentally composed a paragraph long backstory, and wrote down a list of about 25 Dungeon Starter style impressions.  3 hours later, they’d explored the ruins of a haunted cathedral, found the grisly remains of a werewolf feast, been blasted by the fiery breath of a vengeful ghost, dragged the Bard down an underground tunnel as he desperately tore his pants off while a strange black mold burned its way into his skin, and recovered a holy artifact to the accompaniment of a bodiless choir of angelic children’s voices.

The game went great, and I’m finding this style of improv-heavy GMing really liberating.  The fact that we’re all playing to find out what happens means I’m just a surprised as the players about how the story goes.  We tried out some of the Madness rules that Sean Dunstan and +Jonathon Walton are working on.  I’ll post about how those worked later.

Now, on to Fronts and creating a steading.

The Gentle Sisters are gratified by the overwhelming response to our call for volunteers in the wake of the Andazapari tempest.  However, we must ask that you refrain from volunteering unless you possess specific abilities.  We need:

    * drovers and salvage brokers to work debris cleanup

    * disease-hardened species to work corpse cleanup

    * swimming, disease-hardened species to aid in sewer repair

    * (URGENT) capable fighters who can protect the parish from looters and necromancers.

All volunteers must swear the Greater Gentle Oath.  Note that oaths made to certain other divinities or orders may disqualify you from accepting the Greater Gentle Oath.
