Hi guys — I was prepping last week and found flipping through the book looking for monsters to be a pain… so I pulled down the xml file and built this spreadsheet.  I’d also like to start collecting other monsters into it, so if you have some favorites you’ld like to add, please do so!

Take +1 vs. snails – how prophetic. Dungeon World finally arrived! Thanks Adam Koebel for helping with customs.

This is the Hafling Fighter move from the DW rule book:

“When you defy danger and use your small size to your advantage, take +1.”

My question is, what does “take +1” mean? Is it +1 forward, an immediate bonus to defy danger, or something else?

So I have determined that, for tonight’s Planarch Codex kickoff game:

So I have determined that, for tonight’s Planarch Codex kickoff game:

• The characters will have been hired by a brain in a jar with golemechanical spider legs.

• They will be hired to recover a book from a dungeon/jail.

• The book will actually be the full-body tattoo of one of the prisoners.

• This is the jail.

Tonight, I’ll be running DW for my Encounters table since the D&DNext playtest resulted in them plowing through the whole module in about 3 sessions (which will be a post for another time).

It’s going to be interesting to see how some of these folks will handle Dungeon World after coming exclusively from a 4e/5e background.

We will, of course, be Codexing Planarchs.

Vecna’s Rot

It is said you get this disease from breathing in the dust from a dead lich’s bones.

First one of your eyes begins to get dry, then you see ghosts and spirits for a few days while enduring blinding headaches and then your eye rots out of your skull. While that pain is at its worst, you might not notice the slight throbbing ache that has set in to one of your hands. Eventually, that hand will fall off of your wrist and crawl away of its own accord to do as much mischief and evil as a hand can do or become the familiar of an evil wizard.

The only known cures are a blessing from a good priest, taking out the eye before it sets in or taking off the hand before it withers or finding a follower of Vecna and either helping them become a lich or telling them a useful secret.

“It is the opinion of the authors of this book that any adventurer worthy of the title must possess, at the bare minimum, two essential items to prosecute their trade effectively. They must have a sword and a backpack.”
