The Pilgrim’s Path #ClericWeek

For some, the divine path leads to enlightenment and is paved with good deeds but for others, it may be a path to power paved with blood and suffering. Your path is your own… and who knows which divine being will answer your call?

You follow in footsteps of a holy leader and meditate on their lessons. When you arrive at a holy site and offer a heartfelt prayer, roll +Wis, or +Bond with a divine figure.

On a 10+, Pick 3.

On a 7-9, Pick 1.

On a 6-, the player chooses one: pain, retribution or cost.

1) A cryptic message from the divine is whispered in your ear to gain ++1 Forward when you act on this information. (This stacks with +1 bonuses from Aid, Bless, Preparation or other enhancing moves.)

2) An intense vision briefly overwhelms your senses. An upcoming grim portent and its impending doom is briefly revealed to you.

3) You do not need to pay tribute with a small but meaningful sacrifice

4) You do not attract unwanted attention from a deity in opposition to your beliefs.

How might you model a star wars/star trek style deflector shield in dungeon world?

How might you model a star wars/star trek style deflector shield in dungeon world? I’m asking because I’ve got a setting for my players were such things would be common on vehicles, and all the ideas I’ve had have been a bit on the overly complex side.

#ClericWeek

We of course have the classics:

Dwarf

You are one with stone. When you commune you are also granted a special version of Words of the Unspeaking as a rote which only works on stone.

Human

Your faith is diverse. Choose one wizard spell. You can cast and be granted that spell as if it was a cleric spell.

But then there are more kinds of Clerics out there right?

Hit us up with your coolest Cleric Racial Moves!

For Inspiration:

Half Orc

Your deity demands blood, when you butcher a powerful enemy of your faith after a one on one duel, immediately gain a boon from your deity

Dark Elf

Darkness and Shadow are the domains of your deity. When you stand in the shadows you can manipulate and form them into cloaks of darkness or even light cover against attacks.

Kobold

When you use a spell on an ally, you infuse them with draconic might, granting them +1d4 damage forward

Idea for #ClericWeek :  each potential deity domain gets a custom move that affects how a specific spell works.

Examples:

Healing & Restoration: when you cast cure light wounds, you can choose to purify the recipient of a mundane disease or poison instead of healing HP.

Bloody Conquest: when you cast magic weapon, the weapon gains the messy tag.

What ideas do you have for the other domains? (or for additional domains you make up)

10+ and you’ve got this, no problem. Make the perilous journey move.

7-9 and pick one — you lost something/someone OR you have run into trouble. Resolve and then make the perilous journey move.

Fail and you’re totally lost. Pick two — you lost something/someone, you have run into trouble, you’re at the Ruins of Magisweil.

When inventive but probably at least half-crazy gnomes build a prosthetic limb for you, it works pretty much like the original even though it is obviously artificial. By default it has the tags worn and blatant.

(Blatant: it stands out a lot, and people will tend to remember seeing it.)

Choose a look:

• Clockpunk

• Plantlike

• Crystal-and-stone

• Sleek metallic

• Cunningly carved

Choose one benefit:

• Better: it won’t break or suffer damage easily, even where a normal limb would

• Faster: when you can do something with just that one limb, you can act before others

• Stronger: if that limb can do most of the work, take +1 for Defy Danger with STR

• Subtle: remove blatant

And one limitation:

• Noisy: when you use it, it makes noise

• Needs maintenance: every time you Make Camp or stop for the night, you need to do something to maintain it, which also requires some kind of tool or gear. If you don’t, take -1 ongoing until you maintain it

• Breakable: if you put it under high stress, it may break and not work until repaired

• Clumsy: when that limb is primarily involved, take -1 ongoing to DEX

• Painful: it impinges on your body, so when that limb is primarily involved, take -1 ongoing to CON

Facelift

When you cut the face off of someone and wear it as a mask you can perfectly assume the guise of that person. Even your voice and clothes change to resemble them. You can keep using the mask whenever you want, but it might get awkward if someone finds the body.

Too dark?

I’m working on a class, loosely based on the Faceless Men from A Song of Ice and Fire.

I’m working on a class, loosely based on the Faceless Men from A Song of Ice and Fire. During constructing the below move, I kind of came to a realization:

If you wish to make the class good at something, they should succeed on a 7-9 with a bonus for rolling 10+. If you want it to be risky, they should succeed on a 10+ but with strings attached on a 7-9.

I never thought about it this formally before. That’s what makes the druid so damn good at shapeshifting. They always succeed and there’s only strings attached if the character rolls a miss.

The fighter on the other hand is competent at smashing things to bits, but there’s always strings attached. The difference here is that the fighter chooses the cost. Brute force is always risky.

A Stranger’s Face

When you focus your mind and envision a desired form choose a humanoid race and a sex and roll+CHA. On a hit your body morphs and changes to sort of match your mental image. You’ll look like an ordinary person of that race and sex, and no one will recognize you for who you were before. On a 10+ choose one:

– Your visage is beautiful or attractive for the race. Gain +1 forward to parley with anyone who would be attracted to your sex.

– You look so normal that unless you actively draw attention to yourself, people will forget they ever saw you once you leave their presence.

– You can maintain a distinctive feature such that people who know you for who you are will recognize you when they see you.
